I’m back with your afternoon reel. Confidence continues to increase for a significant Winter Storm that’ll impact parts of the state. The notion that a nice snowstorm is coming is not true; it’s either gonna be mostly sleet or freezing rain, with a burst of snow for some. The threat of power outages is increasing, but we will fine-tune the highest risk over the next 24-36 hours. There’s no reason to panic, but you should be aware of potential impacts. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for most of Central and Western NC by the National Weather Service. I’ll keep you updated as much as possible. #ncwx #ncmountains #winterstorm

ART • Have you seen the Astronaut Christina Koch mural in Raleigh? You might have missed it. If you’ve seen it, you might not have noticed it was her! 🌔 Spark of Life is a mural by @ArtOfJohnPugh on @ncstatecentennial campus. His (non-AI generated) interpretation of the birth and emergence of AI is represented by a sculpture of Artemis, god of the hunt and the moon. 🌓 Artemis was used as a depiction of artificial intelligence coming alive and pushing out the boundaries of the walls that contained her. As she comes to life, she’s looking up at the moon! 🌒 Look closely and you’ll see that one of the two people crafting her is Christina Koch @astro_christina , the astronaut who just went to the moon and back! Artemis Il could not be contained - nor could NC native and @ncstate grad Christina Koch! 🌖 The mural was completed in the summer of 2024 - and is located (appropriately) on @ncstatecentennial campus. 📍930 Main Campus Drive, Raleigh NC If you’re there during the week, be sure to check out the nearby location of @321coffee, located in this building. TROLLS • The Trolls are here! Something magical is living in Dix Park! 🪾 Internationally acclaimed Danish artist Thomas Dambo created five large-scale, whimsical trolls made entirely from repurposed materials. And they were constructed with help from hundreds of local volunteers! 🪾 They’re putting the finishing touches on them this weekend for their official debut in 2 weeks. 🪾 Raleigh’s trolls are part of a larger family of seven coming to North Carolina, with one more making its home in High Point and one in Charlotte. Together, they form Thomas Dambo’s biggest U.S. installation to date. He’s already built more than 150 trolls across five continents and 23 US states. 🪾 That’s not all. Asheville will host a related traveling exhibition at the NC Arboretum in beginning November 15. 🪾 “Waste No More” is one of Dambo’s mottos, as his mission is to show the world that trash can be turned into something beautiful. ✨“That we can create joy and connection without consuming more.”✨ 🪾 The 600-foot “tail” that connects the baby troll with its mother is made from bourbon barrels. Other materials used came from fences, shingles, and even a barn! They worked with @raleighreclaimed and @habitatforhumanity, among other individuals and groups. 🪾 Their exact hiding spots in Dix Park are a secret for now, and I don’t want to spoil any surprises. They’re located in at least 3 different sections of the park. And it will be fun for kids of all ages to search, explore, and discover these amazing creations. They are truly wonderful! Get ready because @botiwallaraleigh is opening in @raleighironworks on Tuesday! 🌯 Botiwalla (pronounced BO-Tee-walla) is the fast casual concept from @meherwanirani of @chaipani fame. IYKYK - and I think everyone knows that no visit to Asheville is complete without a trip to Chai Pani for his fresh modern take on Indian food. 🌯 You won’t find a vindaloo here. But there’s plenty of tasty chaat, grilled skewers, and the most delicious wraps and handhelds. And you can always get a Chicken Tikka Rice Bowl (or lamb, paneer, fish, and more). 🌯 We started with the Bhel Puri, Green Mango Chaat, and the signature Matchstick Okra Fries. Yum!!! A Sigri is a North Indian charcoal grill and from this menu we chose a Paneer Tikka Roll. It was bursting with flavor! 🌯 The Pav menu contains the street sandwiches and we had the KFC Sandwich - two perfectly crispy and succulent Kashmiri fried chicken sandwiches. So tasty and just the right kick! 🌯 Honestly, I would order everything again, but I want to try literally everything on the menu. Don’t forget a specialty drink like mango lassi or one of the delicious house sodas. And allow time to shop! 🌯 I am so excited to welcome Botiwalla to Raleigh and you will be glad they’re here! ROOFTOP • it’s one of the most highly anticipated rooftop openings in ages! 🍹 @SixtyVines opened in @visitnorthhills Hills in December. Their VIP Grand Opening party was epic. And they’ve been killing it ever since. 🍹 There was only one thing missing. Their beautiful rooftop bar had views and vibes, but it hadn’t opened yet. Well it opened today! We went for lunch and it was just as lovely and delicious as we’d hoped it would be! 🍹 They have lots of great wines on tap and tasty cocktails too! And you’ll be equally impressed with the food! Here’s what we had: 🍕Fig & Prosciutto Pizza - with honey, arugula, sesame seeds (We loved it!) 🍤Wood Grilled Shrimp - with roasted corn, tomato, champagne vinaigrette, black garlic aioli (We practically licked the dish clean.) 🍔 Double Cabernet Burger - Cabernet smothered smashed patties, white cheddar, caramelised onions, Worcestershire mayo and tomato. (We split it 3 ways. 🔥) ✨Crispy Zucchini Chips - tapioca dusted peppadew pepper, cilantro and sweet chilli vinaigrette (They were even better than we imagined!) 🍹 Between the walk up bar on the ground floor and this beautiful roomy and airy rooftop, I think Sixty Vines is going to be a popular place to hang this spring and summer ! 🍹 What do you think? The only issue was the two hour wait sometimes - and worrying about parking. It’s just down from Bowstring as you head towards downtown. It also has a 15-seat dining room available for special events. 🍕 Capital Pizza Box opens Wednesday August 6. Their hours will be 4-9pm, Wed-Sun, which may expand in the coming months. That’s why this new spot is such a welcome addition to the ITB pizza scene! 🍕 The new location has a parking lot and easy access to downtown, the Five Points neighborhood, Raleigh Iron Works and more. SUNFLOWERS • It’s happening! The sunflowers in @dixpark are in full bloom! They should be going strong for two more weeks! 🌻 This is one of the biggest Raleigh traditions of recent years and one of my favorites. It happens to coincide with my birthday (and one of my daughters’), so we always try to get some selfies together! 🌻 They’ve been doing so many enhancements at Dix and there’s even more to do while you’re there to see the flowers. There are swings, covered picnic areas, and hammocks - and hooks if you want to bring your own hammock. Not to mention the way-finding and informational signs. And the big green couch! SUNFLOWERS • It’s happening! The sunflowers in @dixpark are in full bloom! They should be going strong for two more weeks! 🌻 This is one of the biggest Raleigh traditions of recent years and one of my favorites. It happens to coincide with my birthday (and one of my daughters’), so we always try to get some selfies together! 🌻 They’ve been doing so many enhancements at Dix and there’s even more to do while you’re there to see the flowers. There are swings, covered picnic areas, and hammocks - and hooks if you want to bring your own hammock. Not to mention the way-finding and informational signs. And the big green couch! According to @raleighnaturalist, the water was never meant to be permanent, but a wetland was turned into a shallow lake by the work of beavers! 🌿 I was amazed at the beauty of the area and the wildlife present. I’ve never seen so many turtles - just resting on the logs in the water. 🌿 This time, as I kept walking along the paved path, I realized I was approaching the tunnel under Capital Boulevard! How cool! 🌿 There’s a Greenway parking lot on 📍Crabtree Blvd. Walk up to Raleigh Blvd and make a left - and you’ll see the entrance on your left. Make sure you walk all the way to the gazebo. 🌿 Why not stop by @gatewayplazaraleigh while you’re there? There are so many great new places open! Grab a breakfast sandwich or loaf at @unionspecialbread and a drink at @mordecaibevco or @natural_science_bar. Did you know the new location of @escazuchocolates has ice cream?! The Stanley Cup is back in Raleigh, and it’s time to celebrate! ❤️🏒🏆 The official Carolina Hurricanes 2026 Championship Celebration (presented by Spectrum) will feature a parade and rally on Saturday, June 20, at 11:00am in Downtown Raleigh. 📍Parade Route Saturday’s parade will begin at the intersection of Hillsborough and St. Mary’s Street and travel toward the State Capitol before heading down Fayetteville Street to Davie Street. Following the conclusion of the parade, there will be a rally held at City Plaza, where fans can gather to hear from players, coaches, and special guests. 🅿️Parking Information There will be five City decks offering free parking for the celebration: 👉Cabarrus St. | 436 S. Salisbury St. 👉Moore Square Deck | 233 S.
