After highlighting some top Olden Tymee and International sandwiches from 2025 in the last two vids, today we look at the failures. Yes, it’s the Top 5 Worst Sandwiches of 2025 on Sandwiches of History. When I went back and reviewed the data from this year’s video I was surprised to not have given a zeroes. But that is due to me leaning on the half point a lot. I guess I figure it’s all food and therefore has to really be just god-awful to the point you wouldn’t touch it even if you were starving (which is probably a pretty high bar tbh). Enjoy? I’ve long resisted the call to do a sandwich based off of a comedians joke. Not because I don’t think they’re funny but because the sandwich is never intended to be eaten. After all, it was a joke. So I was not gonna make the late great comedian Mitch Hedberg’s Pastrami, Cottage Cheese, and Banana Bread Sandwich. But, someone in the comments said they’d donate $100 to a charity of my choice if I did by day 100 so I thought, why not? Not only that, I am going to match that donation and have both go to Feeding America which helps get food to folks who desperately need it. So, over on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he frequently subjects stars who are on the show to the Colbert Questionert. The first question is What’s the best sandwich? Some answers earnestly if not plainly. Some, like the great Will Farrell, are clearly joking around. Well, the other night actor/writer/director Jeff Daniels was on. Still, it would seem that vinegar at the time ranged from 4% - 6% as opposed the 5% required today. One more orbit around the sun has transpired for yours truly and, as is tradition for my birthday here on Sandwiches of History, I’m making a sandwich just because I want to. For the past 4 years I’ve made The Tomato (twice), The Bologna, and The Collard Melt, all of which are fantastic sandwiches from the cookbook, Turkey and The Wolf: Flavor Trippin’ In New Orleans. Every once in a while…well, ok more often than I’d like, there comes a sandwich with a name that belies what it is really in it. To wit, today’s Spaghetti Sandwich from the St. Louis Dispatch published 1931. Is there spaghetti in it? Sure, but it’s the other ingredients and the bread that do a number on this sandwich. Every once in a while…well, ok more often than I’d like, there comes a sandwich with a name that belies what it is really in it. Apparently, Northern Garlic Eggs are a thing all on their own but up north they also serve them in a bun called a Mantou which seems to be a larger version of a bao.
