Smart glasses are spreading, and so are worries about secret filming.

One researcher built an Android app that detects their Bluetooth signatures.

What you do after that is up to you.

Your email holds a lot more than messages, it’s where digital identity starts. Your kids don’t need a profile before they understand what that means. Give your child a clean slate — reserve a private email for them at proton.me/subwaytakes

Identity theft is not a joke.
Neither is letting your inbox know more about you than your best friend does.

Your email holds your bank info, travel plans, work convos, and basically your entire digital life. Maybe it should belong to… you?

People can now use your Instagram photos to generate AI images of you.

Meta turned this on by default, won't notify you when it happens, and it's on you to opt out.

It's part of Muse Image, Meta's new AI model built into Instagram. If your profile is public, all it takes is someone typing your username into a prompt, and Meta AI will build images around your photos. No permission asked, no heads-up given.

Here's how to turn it off:

➡️ Go to your Instagram profile
➡️ Tap the three lines in the top-right corner
➡️ Scroll down to "Sharing and reuse"
➡️ Find "Allow people to use your content on Instagram and with AI features on Meta"
➡️ Turn off the toggles for both Posts and Reels

Going private blocks it too. But either way, anything that's already been generated with your photos stays out there.

Opting out shouldn't be this hard. Privacy should be the default, not a setting buried five menus deep.

Privacy laws matter, and who you store your data with matters too.

But most Europeans still store their emails, files, and photos on big tech platforms, such as Google, that operate under US jurisdiction. This gives authorities easy access to their data, and big tech companies will do anything to keep the authorities happy.

Choose European instead.

Governments worldwide are rushing to "protect children online" with age verification laws.

Meanwhile Big Tech ad surveillance and profiling on kids & teens goes completely unchecked.

Children are being profiled long before they understand what that even means.

That’s what Born Private is about.

A child’s digital identity shouldn’t start inside systems designed to track and monetize them. It should start private.

This is one of those rare occasions where Big Tech actually listens to its users.

Meta just killed the feature that let anyone generate AI images from your public Instagram photos. After backlash from users (and reportedly talent agencies), it's gone. In Meta's own words, it "missed the mark."

Here's the full statement from their blog:

"Our intent was to provide a useful creative tool and to give people control over whether their public content could be referenced in this way” and “We’ve heard the feedback that this feature missed the mark, so it’s no longer available."

Worth remembering how it launched though: on by default, no notification when someone used your photos, and an opt-out buried deep in settings. It took public pressure to undo it.

Your privacy shouldn't depend on finding a hidden toggle before a feature gets abused, and it shouldn't take a backlash for a company to ask permission first.

See our link in bio for info on what the feature was.
