We’re back on the @kingshocks Wide Body/Pre-Runner/Donk/Hot Rod El Camino! @brandongerringer has been running around the shop making progress on other projects but it’s finally time to get back to work on the Elco. We can’t wait to see what this thing looks like after both sides get the full wide body treatment!

We’re back on the @kingshocks Wide Body/Pre-Runner/Donk/Hot Rod El Camino! @brandongerringer has been running around the shop making progress on other projects but it’s finally time to get back to work on the Elco. We can’t wait to see what this thing looks like after both sides get the full wide body treatment!

What would you have done differently? After trying to burn out some of the impurities then fill and grind, @brandongerringer decided the dumpster was the logical next step. Sometimes you can weld cast aluminum but whatever this stuff was, it was not happening. (Instead, Paul found an adjustable billet thermostat housing online that should do quite nicely)

Had to call an audible part way through. Can you tell? The original plan was to merge two elbows at the throttle body but @brandongerringer realized pretty quickly there just wasn’t enough space. Given the right constraints, we think it turned out pretty good. What do you guys think? #aluminumfabrication #oldanvilspeedshop

The plan for this one sounds simple but will require some ingenuity and finesse to actually accomplish. The owner wants to retain 95% of the vintage, patina style of this 1951 Pontiac Chieftain but make it a completely modern and reliable driver underneath. That means we’ll be building a complete custom chassis complete with modern powertrain, electrics and other current-day conveniences but keep it all hidden from sight. This should be a fun one. Do you agree with our diagnosis or think there’s another reason? And since there seemed to be some confusion in our original post: No, we didn’t do the original bodywork and paint. The car came from another shop and we were “just” finishing the build for our customer. Until of course we realized the paint issue and now we’re also painting it.
