Sometimes a good concept takes a sharp left turn into full-on theme, and that’s when things get dicey. In my opinion, themed décor is one of the quickest ways to cross the line into kitschy territory—and not in the charming way. Think “beach house” turning into a gift shop. The truth is, the really good pieces often take a little digging. Sometimes they’re hiding in the back corner behind a weird flamingo lamp, and sometimes they’re right up front like they own the place. If you’re on the hunt for décor, my golden rule is always: mix and match from different stores. Otherwise, you risk your space looking like it came straight out of page 7 of a catalog—cute, but missing soul. What stores are on your radar right now? Besides the kitchen, the living room is one of the most lived in spaces in your home. It should feel intentional. Yes, you can absolutely have a picture perfect space and still have it be comfortable to actually live in. Play around with shapes and proportions so the room feels inviting and a little more unique, just like you are. A living room should not feel like a furniture showroom where no one is allowed to sit. And please, stop copy and pasting what you see online and hoping it magically works in your space.
