AD | Any parent of young kids will know the sheer logistics of getting out for a date night.

There was once a time where Friday nights were reserved for elegant three course dinners whereas now it’s more rock, paper, scissor of who has to do bedtime duty and collapsing on the sofa.

Inspired by my @sainsburys Your Nectar Price’s I decided to shake things up and bring the restaurant experience to us. No babysitter required.
Here’s the bit I love: Every Friday you can go into the Nectar app and unlock personalised offers on item based on what you actually buy and love. So you’re saving money on the things you’d choose anyway, not just whatever’s on offer.

So if you’re craving a night out but the logistics feel like too much, let Sainsbury’s do the hard work and bring the restaurant home instead.

18+. Nectar app required. Unlock up to 10 Your Nectar Prices weekly. Available in supermarkets, online and in Locals with SmartShop. Prices and products vary per customer weekly. T&Cs apply. Data from 1st Apr 2025 to 31st Mar 2026. Based on (a) average yearly savings earned by the top 20% of Nectar customers (identified by savings earned) using Nectar Prices vs regular Sainsbury’s prices for the same products, plus (b) the average weekly savings with Your Nectar Prices vs regular Sainsbury’s prices, offered to digital Nectar customers; assumes each weekly Your Nectar Price offer is used once & multiplied by 52 for an average yearly saving.

This is absolutely no shade to parents of kids who sleep. Parenting is hard no matter what the circumstances. But I spent years looking at mothers with a kid the same age as mine and berate myself for not being as together as they seemed to be. I watched friends going to the gym, going back to work, going on date nights and I would feel like an utter failure. But now, having had a child who slept extremely well from a young age I realise that of course every struggle I had came back to the fact I was surviving on four hours sleep a night. Maximum.

So if that’s you and you’re beating yourself up please don’t. It will get better, you will sleep again and for now you deserve nothing but grace and kindness.

I always get nervous posting stuff like this because people have OPINIONS when it comes to food and feeding kids. So incase it wasn’t clear, this is what works for my little family and my choice to make as a parent. So if the sight of a child eating a white bread sandwich offends you I suggest you head elsewhere 😂 not because you’re not welcome here but because it’s not going to change any time soon!

I debated posting this because I feel a bit embarrassed and silly for getting so upset but omg sometimes days are sent to humble you as a mum and this one HUMBLED me.

I love being a mum so much, I love being a stay at home mum even more but just like my old 9-5 used to sometimes throw a day my way that felt like an absolute shocker, so does this job too. I used to feel like no one had days like this because all I saw on my FYP were happy mums expertly diffusing meltdowns and having perfect days out and whilst that’s the reality 95% of the time, the bad days exist and we all have them

This was an incredibly cathartic essay to write and I want to be clear - I am not asking for validation on what I look like now. I have felt this way about my body when I was a size 10 and when I was a size 18.

I wanted to write this because I am sure I am not alone. Sadly, I think that so many of us feel like this. Tired of caring about what our bodies look like but not yet quite able to bridge the gap between that and actually accepting and loving ourselves.

I’d be so grateful if you gave the essay a read. My substack link is in my bio ❤️

Can a mum on a budget still shop at @marksandspencerfood ? Let’s find out!

Actually very pleasantly surprised by what good value it was and the quality of course speaks for itself.

Please note that there’s not much fruit in this shop as we’re currently working our way through a sack of apples and heaps of oranges we got last week.

An ode to the most gorgeous sleep thief there ever was, my daughter Matilda. I can laugh about it now but unless you’ve had a child who doesn’t sleep you have no idea how soul destroying it can be. For three and a half years I dreaded the night time, spent all my time obsessing over routine, naps, diet - anything I thought could make a difference. And yet still on a good night we’d maybe get four hours of sleep. It was rough.

If you’re in the trenches, I see you. And let me assure you, it will get better. You will sleep again. And until that time comes go so easy on yourself because my god it’s rough when sleep is scarce.

It may not look picture perfect - infact it’s about as aesthetic as this video BUT in the spirit of keeping it real this is the meal that we make on repeat when we want something hearty, healthy and crucially quick! Because when you’re in the midst of bedtime battles with two small kids the last thing you need is to be following some elaborate recipe.

Don’t knock it til you’ve tried it - it’s delicious.

I posted this on TT a while ago but it bears repeating. The words you say to people when they are in their darkest hours really matter. That interaction has stayed with me for twenty years and always will.

To all my chronically exhausted parents fed up of hearing “have you tried white noise”, this one is for you. Truly if I’d had my son first I’d have thought I was the supernanny of sleep. I would have been unbearable. My daughter humbled me in ways I could never have anticipated. Everything I tried made matters worse, she fought me and several sleep consultants so hard that one declared her “un sleep trainable”. Funny now, at the time I was eight months pregnant and devastated.

When my son was born I kept waiting for the other shoes to drop. I remember my husband and I standing outside his room as he happily chatted away to himself in his cot in pure disbelief.

We’ve had our hard nights, our sleep regressions, we’ve had to work at his sleep but he responded to our efforts in a way that my daughter never did.

So please know, you’re not getting it wrong, youre not “not trying hard enough”. And it will get better. That I can promise.

This may seem extremely obvious or a bit of a low bar but my god we saw such a positive shift in our relationship and family life when we started to treat my role as a stay at home mum like a job. Because it is a job. An extremely hard and demanding job!

I came to my Instagram stories the other day to complain about how hard I find it to relax when I get some rare time to myself and you guys filled my DMs with cries of me too! So I’m putting this out there to ask mums who have the art of relaxing mastered - how do you gals do it?

It feels like it should be as easy as just sitting down with a book but frankly I’ve struggled with this since my daughter was born so any wisdom would be gratefully received ❤️

This is an extremely vulnerable post for me but if it helps one person not be as mean to themselves as I found myself being postpartum, it’ll be worth it.

Postpartum affects every part of our body, our skin, our hair, our nails everything. I wish I had known how monumental the change would be and that it would take me the best part of two years to even start feeling myself again.

If you’re in the trenches please know you will feel like you again, it just takes time. So don’t compare and be very gentle on yourself.

I’d like to be clear, this is not a dig at dads. I love seeing more equal parenting becoming the norm. But I think when we praise dads for very basic parenting things it kind of suggests that they’re hero’s for doing things we just expect of mothers. Why is that?!

Anyway thoughts, prayers and a pride of Britain award to my husband who bravely takes his own kids to the supermarket without me. Tbf that is a living nightmare so we might let him have that one!

Sometimes I feel like motherhood online feels very polarising. Like you kind of have to pick a side and stick to it. Pick a personality, choose a label and don’t waver from it.

The problem is I just don’t really see myself in any of the more extreme versions of motherhood that the algorithm seems to really like. I’m kind of somewhere in between and I feel like so many of us are!

It’s extremely daunting and difficult to be honest about some of these incredibly personal feelings but I wish I had seen something like this back when I was in the pits of postpartum depression.

Postpartum depression doesn’t always look like crying in your pyjamas all day. Infact it rarely does. Nor does it happen to people because of a lack of resilience. Actually I think the reason ppd is often under recognised or diagnosed is because mums are so strong and so capable that we are able to mask and hide how much we are struggling. But we shouldn’t have to.

If you are struggling please tell someone, book a GP appointment. Even if you think you “don’t qualify” or that your symptoms seem mild to you. I underplayed mine so much that it was actually quite galling to realise how bad I had been for so long when I finally began therapy.

You are so strong and you are not alone ❤️

I’ve spent every summer trying to dress my body to look smaller and I think I’m finally done.

Ive always avoided boxy fits and the words of trinny and susannah and similar cohorts have rung loud in my ears for as long as I can remember: “don’t pair a loose top with a loose skirt it’ll make you look huge”, “if you’re pear shaped you need to wear something that balances you”.

But the nice thing about reaching my mid thirties is that I’ve started to care less about how my body looks and more about how my clothes makes me feel about myself and my god is it liberating.

Move over Butter mum - there’s a new kid on the block 😂😂

Seriously though…
Whenever I pictured what motherhood would look like for me, I always pictured a busy kitchen, a full table, simple and yummy dinners with plenty left over. No invitation required, no need to clean up, just a loud lovely home full of fun and laughter. I feel so lucky to have friends that live close who feel the same and bouncing between each others homes has shaped my motherhood journey.

Motherhood, especially being a stay at home mum, can feel a little lonely sometimes. And I think when we talk about the village we often think about mums of very young kids but I feel like the joy I get from watching my kids grow up amongst chosen family just grows the older they get. And the need for support doesn’t go away either. I’ll also catch myself at times thinking im too tired for a play date or I just want to be by myself and whilst that’s valid, I truly have never felt better than when I’m joining forces with one of my best friends and parenting together.

So yeah it’s going to be a spag Bol, pull up a chair, stay for tea, nah leave the washing up kind of autumn.
