If we lose 100 strands everyday…
& the braids were in for 5 weeks…
& 5 weeks x 7 days = 35 days…
& 35 days x 100 strands = 3500 strands…

HOW DO I KNOW IF IM BALDING?!

Why shave your legs when you can just bleach it?

Not only does the bleach lighten the hair to a blonde that catches light and makes you look like you’re wearing gold body shimmer, but the bleach also softened the hair… so hairy legs & arms feel less prickly lol

In 2016 I discover @soldejaneiro Golden Veil and that opened me up to a whole new world of incredible beauty trends from Brazil. 🇧🇷

I used to bleach my entire body from stomach to back to thighs and arms.

Sol de Janeiro sadly discontinued the product around 2018 :(

Credit: some clips taken from @amir_morris. His trip to Brazil inspired me to actually finish and post this video lol

Would you ever consider doing this?

the year is 2014.
& two Tumblr girls from New York wander into the California desert…
heavily influenced by that one line in a Frank Ocean song….

The trip that changed my life, because it’s the day I decided I wanted to move to Los Angeles 🤍🥹🫧🫶🏾

Part 1 | How @hairqueen_la scammed me out of $1750 & why I think you should avoid them at all costs.

I was nervous posting this because I don’t like inviting negativity to my page, but honestly there’s no way I’m the only one this happened to. + you deserve to not waste your hard earned money on a place that doesn’t care about the work they do.

As a beauty service provider myself, I take customers service very seriously. Businesses like this are ruining our industry, and eroding trust between stylists and clients.

(3 parts total. Sorry I couldn’t tell this story any faster than 15 minutes.)

I kept gesturing to my own nails, but I did them myself, so I know that they’re perfect lol ✨🫧

But seriously, the amount of women that say they hate going to the nail salon, or wish they could just drop their hands off and pick them back up is crazy. Nail salon culture needs to improve the quality of the work.. I don’t understand how they’re training people. Granted, I am super picky, but oh well. A picky client makes a great service provider.

Thoughts???

My first viral skincare post on Twitter in 2017 🤭

The advice still stands!

But what I think is cool is that I got the idea from a post from @sabrinabrazil & @saweetie before Saweetie was famous. The video was of them in furry bras that Sabrina was making at the time. I bought one. lol

I think some of the best marketing comes from when you make ideas your own using inspiration from different industry. When you follow much of the same your brain and creativity get bogged down.

anyway, don’t use scrubs on your face. lol

WHY SHOULD BLACK (& brown-skinned) PEOPLE WEAR SUNSCREEN?

Well, let me tell you :)

• maintain skin health
• prevent photosensitivity
• reduce risk of sunburns
• prevent sun damage
• prevent collagen breakdown
• global warming is making the earth hotter

Sooooooo notice I didn’t say skin cancer? 🙃
The melanoma Black people are most likely to get (a very rare type) is NOT shown to be caused by UV exposure, so it just don’t make sense to say that.

Future Nayamka will thank this version of me for looking out for her by protecting her skin.

— comment SPF for a list of my no-cast, dark skin friendly sunscreen options —

What do you tell people who say they don’t need to wear SPF because their skin is brown???

this felt kinda criminal, ngl

I’m mostly indifferent to my 18 gray hairs, but these ones just kept looking at meeee and refused to listen 🫣

How are you feeling about your greys as they pop in?

Which skincare tools are worth your time, and which are a waste of time?

SILICONE FACIAL BRUSH
🫧 these are such a waste of time. Wash your face with your fingers for 60 seconds, (#The60SecondRule) and that’s all you need. Your face does not need to be scrubbed like a dinner plate.

METAL FACIAL ROLLER
🫧 these are not harmful. And the cooling sensation can definitely feel nice, and help depuff the skin, but I don’t find them particularly necessary or impactful.

MICROCURRENT DEVICE
🫧 I loveeee microcurrent. Both at home and professional microcurrent devices are wonderful for instant instantly lifting and toning the face.

PORE VACUUM
🫧 absolutely the worst device on this list. I wish I could burn every single one. LMAO. Can cause broken capillaries, bruising, hickey like marks, hyperpigmentation, etc etc. These things are awful. (The in-spa ones are great)

FACE RAZOR
🫧 there is a genuine risk of dermatitis, irritation, and worsening acne when using these facial erasers at home. I strongly do not recommend. (Not the same as professional dermaplaning)

My 3 Biggest Takeaways from @rhode’s $1Billion Acquisition @haileybieber @elfcosmetics

1. SIMPLICITY
🫧 Rhode launched with three products. Some brands launch with like 10, or 15. Three products meant Rhode could double down on what was working and build their brand ecosystem around one hero product (lip treatment).
How to implement? Don’t do too much right out the gate. Keep it simple as you gain your footing.

2. BUILD COMMUNITY
🫧You need people. Serving the people who support you should be your main priority. Make it fun. Make it memorable.
How to implement: whatever you’re marketing, you cannot just do it on social media, or in real life. It has to be both. it should be both. both is what moves needle.

3. “GOOD” ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH
🫧 there are 100 and 1 “good” skincare products. To stand out, give people something to be excited about. Don’t be afraid to do something out of the box. It could be the packaging. It could be the bravo, it could be the uniqueness.
How to implement? Tell your story. Keep it true to you. And don’t fear creativity.
