@greatbritishracing asked me to write about the versatility of our ex racer Dolos and it has been such a pleasure. We say:
“How lucky are we to have Dolos?”
About seven times a week. Definitely once a day. We are so grateful to @teamdelehay for rehoming this magnificent creature with us. I couldn’t imagine life without him now.
Thoroughbreds are sometimes misunderstood but we absolutely love them.
Dolos powers up for Toby, he will jump anything and go all day. He was a super successful racehorse too. Then he powers down for Mrs Nervous Nellie and looks after me like I’m a fragile piece of glass. He nannies the children, and even lets them ride pillion - bumping about behind the saddle.
In short he is a miracle. A thoroughbred miracle. And we thank God for him every single day.
He can pull a carriage, go swimming in the sea, tolerate me faffing about in the sidesaddle, jump a hedge or a gate or a wall or a brook or a ditch. Anything you put him at. He’s the best company.
He will travel in a cattle trailer (he says he does prefer something slightly smarter, if possible, please) but he’s always gentle and good natured to everyone.
He’s also a brilliant teacher. He’s helping gorgeous Vieux Lion Rouge settle into our eclectic way of life. Taking it slowly. And we are so happy with the way Vieux is adapting to the Coles way of life under Dolos’ tutelage. These two French Thoroughbreds - giants in the racing world - have plenty to talk about and they’re now BEST mates.
He’s a charming, kind, super talented gentleman and we are so honoured to have him in our lives. 🤎
