Mercado González is one of those places where you come in with a list… and immediately abandon it. There’s just too much good food to ignore. My go-tos every time: • Tacos Los Guichos — asada, al pastor, and suadero tacos • La Tapatia Birriería — lamb birria • Entre Nos — spicy mezcalita from the bar • Carnitas Don Miguel — chicharrón con carne, fresh guac, carnitas to-go • Carnicería — marinated diezmillo or bistec de ranchera for taco night • Tortillería — Sonoran flour tortillas • The cremería — fresh cotija cheese • El Moro — famous fresh churros Tonight I grabbed carnitas, both steaks from the carnicería, tortillas, cotija, cilantro/onions… and made some of my favorite tacos I’ve done in a while. The secret? A homemade salsa macha. Recipe is below if you want to make it too ⬇️ Salsa Macha Recipe Ingredients: – 2 large dried ancho chiles – 2 large dried guajillo chiles – 3–4 chiles de árbol – ~10 dried chiles de Japones – 1 corn tortilla – 5 garlic cloves – ¼ cup pepitas – ¼ cup unsalted peanuts – 1 cup avocado oil – 1 tsp Mexican oregano – Salt to taste Instructions: Heat the oil over medium and fry the tortilla until crispy; set aside. Toast all the dried chiles for 10–15 seconds per side until they darken, then remove. Turn off the heat and let the garlic cook in the residual heat until lightly golden. Cook the pepitas and peanuts in the warm oil until golden. Blend the chiles, garlic, and crispy tortilla into a rough paste. Add the toasted nuts, seeds, and warm oil, then blend until smooth. Add salt to taste. It keeps for weeks in the fridge — if it thickens, just stir in a splash of oil. 📍2300 Harbor Blvd, Costa Mesa, CA 92626 #MercadoGonzalez #ad #salsamacha #tacos #ocfoodie

Chef @sebichitoo ‘s Peruvian heritage shines through on the menu, doing riffs on traditional dishes while keeping everything familiar and approachable for anyone walking in for the first time. What started as a neighborhood pop-up became proof of concept — and the community that lined up back then is still showing up for him now. @pepino_sd #sdfoodie #sandiegofood #sandiegoeats #sdbrunch #brunch #breakfast #sandiegorestaurants #lajolla

One of my all-time favorite taco spots is @decabeza_el_unico in Chula Vista. They cook the entire cow head and turn it into insanely tender tacos and their famous soup — nothing goes to waste. You can also order green chorizo, whole lamb head, and pulque, a fermented agave drink. Cabeza is one of my favorite taco meats — rich, fatty, and unbelievably tender when it renders down. Like Chef Jesus says… it’s all mental. Just come try it for yourself 🌮 📍1043 Broadway, Chula Vista, CA 91911 #tacos #mexicanfood #sdfoodie #sandiegofood #besttacos

This video is a long time coming because if you couldn’t already tell, @harper_barbecue is one of my favorite restaurants in SoCal. I used to live about 200 steps away and there was nothing better than smelling the wood fire from the pits in the morning. As someone who loves barbecue, we’re lucky to have a place like this in OC. Harper has carved out a style of their own, and there’s genuinely something for everyone. Not many spots on the West Coast are serving smoked beef cheek as a permanent menu item, let alone doing it at this level. My favorite things to order: -Beef cheek -Ibérico pork steak (think ribeye but pork) -Pork ribs -Picanha -Jalapeño-cheddar sausage -Brussels sprout Caesar -Moroccan spiced farro -Pretty much any daily special Address: 125 Cabrillo St., Costa Mesa, CA 92627 Hours: Wed-Sun 11am-9pm #ocfoodie #ocfood #bbq #orangecountyfood #oceats

**Updated Address: 10700 Menchaca Rd, Austin, TX 78748 Last year, @el.grandpa.barbacoa commented on one of my videos from @decabeza_el_unico , one of my favorite taco spots in San Diego, telling me I had to come check them out. When I started planning my Texas food trip, I specifically chose Austin so I could make a video on these guys. Boy, am I glad I did. This was easily a top 3 food experience of all time for me. Mike and I went back three separate times over the course of two days to capture every step of the 15-hour process they do twice every weekend. Despite almost burning my eyebrows off and melting my phone in the process, I feel like we truly got to capture what makes this place so special. Thank you Emilio & Javier for welcoming us in like family and sharing your story with us. If you’re ever in the Austin area, El Grandpa is an absolute must. 📍 @el.grandpa.barbacoa #barbacoa #mexicanfood #atxfoodie #tacos #austinfood

So glad I tried this spot. The fact that they’ve been in business for 30 years tells you everything you need to know. The El Jefe tacos come with fish and shrimp and are huge. I also tried their fish tacos, which were excellent. My favorite was the ceviche tostada. Super fresh and I loved loading everything up with their spicy salsa. @mariscoseltiburonn 📍 2304 W Sixth St, Santa Ana, CA 92703 #ocfoodie #fishtacos #mariscos #ocfood #tacos

47 years in the restaurant world is no small feat. @antonellosristorante has been serving Italian food across from South Coast Plaza since 1979. I actually lived in Torino for a year, close to where owner Antonio grew up, and this is the exact style of cooking I fell in love with there. Simple, traditional, and rooted in family recipes. After nearly five decades, it’s the kind of place that turns first-time guests into lifelong regulars. #italianfood #ocfoodie #pasta #italianrestaurant #ocfood

Everything we ate in 36 hours in Carmel @labicyclette_carmel – European-style bistro with creative wood-fired dishes @cheznoircarmel – Michelin ⭐️, walking into the bar for à la carte might be the best move in town @thestationaery – great breakfast spot, but get there early on weekends @maddogscoffeebar – really good coffee and the line moves quick @jejucarmel – favorite meal of the trip, can’t wait to come back and try more @budsatlaplaya – strong cocktails and an awesome late night spot #carmelbythesea #carmelrestaurants #foodguide #carmel #bestrestaurants

Parked right at the entrance of the Westminster Walmart is a small blue truck serving some of the best fish tacos in SoCal. 🌮 Meet the husband-and-wife duo behind @playababytruck . Chef Amanda is from Southern Georgia with an extensive background as a professional chef, bringing big flavors and Southern hospitality to everything she does. Her husband Red is from Nayarit, Mexico, a coastal state known for its seafood, and has been making fish tacos the way his mom taught him for years. One of my favorite things about the OC food scene is how different cultures and culinary traditions come together to create incredible food, and Playa Baby is a perfect example. The taco menu is simple: fish, shrimp, or mixto (both). They’re made fresh to order with huge chunks of fish that come out perfectly crispy every time. All their sauces are made from scratch, and the habanero is my favorite! They also serve tortas, elotes, hot links, and fresh homemade lemonades. My go-to order: • 1 fish taco with both sauces (chipotle & habanero) • 2 mixto tacos with both sauces 📍13331 Beach Blvd, Westminster, CA 92683 #fishtacos #ocfoodie #ocfood #mexicanfood #tacotruck

@taberu__sushi is a true OC hidden gem tucked away in a Santa Ana shopping center near CHOC. They fly in a lot of their fish fresh daily from Japan, and I’ve always said any sushi spot with handwritten white board specials is usually a good sign you’re about to have a great meal. From the outside, it’s easy to overlook, but once you step inside and try that first piece of nigiri, you’ll understand. #sushi #ocfoodie #ocfood #orangecountyfood #oceats

OC Taco Series Part 4: Fish Tacos 🌮🐟 We’re spoiled here in SoCal with fish tacos. Outside of Baja, this is as good as it gets. Crispy fish that’s ultra fresh and hard to beat.
