“Acting, writing, it’s all about unblocked imagination. And mum never stood in the way of mine, she encouraged it, she fed it. She didn’t want me to have the best voice, she wanted me to have my voice. So in the voice she nurtured, I want to thank the women of my life, my mum.”

#AimeeLouWood was one of the 12 inspirational women honoured at Bazaar’s Women of the Year Awards last week. The Stockport-born star deservingly scooped up the accolade for Television Actress, owing — as fellow actor #NcutiGatwa expressed in his speech while presenting to her— to the “complex and deeply human” stories and characters she has portrayed in her fast-accelerating career.

“I’m finding my voice," says @hannahfkdodd, star of Bridgerton and Cabaret in the West End. "It’s something that doesn't necessarily come naturally to me. But if you can’t advocate for yourself, then you can’t advocate for others as well. It can feel like quite a selfish thing when you speak up for yourself sometimes, but actually, it can protect other people around you. That’s the journey that I’m on at the moment.”

“I was in London in the late ‘90s, and this wonderful make-up artist took this little tube out; it was like Vaseline, and she started putting it on my eyelids,” #JenniferAniston explains, in reference to @ElizabethArden’s cult Eight Hour Cream. “I was a little taken aback, because I didn’t understand why you’d put Vaseline on your eyelids, but it was a look. Anyway, she said, ‘You can put it all over your body. This is amazing. You will be addicted to this,’ and sure enough, she was right. Now I’ve found this version of it in a lip balm, so that comes with me everywhere.”

The contrast between Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu’s own vibe and the role that has made her a superstar is quite disconcerting – and to Philippine herself, it seems. “It’s so crazy,” she says. “I never really identified with the French. I knew I had French stuff in me, but I couldn’t really recognise it. And then suddenly, Sylvie became this iconic Frenchwoman! I was like, ‘Oh, my God, that’s so strange, that I’m to play that!’” She describes herself as “a mix of my Italian upbringing, my French culture, my Anglo-Saxon friendships and my love for Brazil. I’m not a pure Parisian product at all.”

Perhaps only an outsider could create such an acutely observed portrait? “Yeah, exactly – you need the distance to be able to embody that. That’s why I have so much fun with the character. I really don’t care that she can be mean and bitchy – I love it!” She fuels her performance by channelling her rage with the state of French politics, she says. “You get stuff out of your system by playing a character like that.”

Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu is our December cover star. At the link in our bio, the actress discusses playing the fan favourite Sylvie Grateau in ‘Emily in Paris’.

Last night, the Emmy awards took over Los Angeles for its 77th annual celebration. The biggest stars in entertainment took to the red carpet to celebrate a stellar year of television, including the star-studded cast of ‘The White Lotus’, HBO Max’s ‘Hacks’ and Apple TV+’s ‘Severance’.

Aside from the awards themselves, our eyes were trained on the red carpet to see what the evening’s A-list attendees would be wearing. As expected, winners and nominees put on an elegant display of high fashion, including more early looks at the houses under new creative direction; Jenna Ortega embodied Isabella Rossellini’s character in Death Becomes Her, arriving in a naked gemstone-covered bodice from Givenchy by Sarah Burton, while Rashida Jones wore an elegant black off-the-shoulder Dior dress imagined in Jonathan Anderson’s new vision.

“I could tell they both had big enough hearts – that they would feel safe enough to take off the mask and be authentic,” says filmmaker Chloé Zhao, on having total confidence in #PaulMescal and #JessieBuckley to take on their roles in her new film, #Hamnet. “Not everyone is willing to give in that way.”

Based on Maggie O’Farrell’s novel of the same title, ‘Hamnet’ is inspired by the short life of the boy born to William Shakespeare (Mescal) and his wife Agnes (Buckley), who ultimately gave his name to the playwright’s masterpiece. Mescal and Buckley give tour de force lead performances, supported by a roll-call of British talent that also includes Joe Alwyn and Emily Watson.

The director talks to Bazaar about the immersive experience of making her Oscar-tipped film, at the link in our bio.

“Women get more beautiful as they get older, for sure,” says #KateWinslet during an episode of our ‘Life Lessons’ franchise. “Our faces become more of who we are, they sit better on our bone structure, they have more life, more history. Things I find incredibly beautiful are wrinkles around the eyes, the backs of hands.”

Conversations speculating about which celebrity has had what work done are endemic on social media, with procedures like “deep plane facelift” and “upper blepharoplasty” entering common parlance. At the same time, anti-wrinkle injections like Botox have been completely normalised, with the procedure now the top non-surgical treatment in the world.

As we become more and more conditioned to see a smooth visage as the norm, it is surprising, and rather wonderful, to see a growing vanguard of actresses ditching the Botox on the big screen.

“Most of my life I’ve been flying by the seat of my pants,” says #GillianAnderson of a career that has taken her from stage to screen, from producing television to writing books, and, most recently, to an unexpected chapter as the founder of the provocatively titled G Spot drinks range. “I tend to jump into things without thinking… I’m quite naive.” We’re surprised to learn she has never really had a professional game plan. “With most of my projects, if I’d given myself even a second to imagine the fear I’d feel doing them, I’d have headed in the other direction,” she admits. “Because the chances of falling flat on my face are so high.”

The actress talks to Frances Hedges about her instinct for innovation and enterprise in the December/January issue of Bazaar UK.

Most of us can agree that 2025 has been a challenging year, to say the least. More than ever, we’ve craved some levity, seeking entertainment that can act as a form of escapism. The many red carpets of this year have offered just that, presenting a parade of incredible fashion and fun talking points — exactly what we want from such glamorous events.

For fashion itself, 2025 has been nothing short of momentous. We’ve witnessed an historic shake-up of the industry, with no fewer than 20 designer debuts this year. What this meant for the red carpet was some very exciting moments indeed, as creative directors chose to give the world a sneak peek into their new vision for the house via a custom design for their chosen celebrity.

At the #OlivierAwards on Sunday evening, actress #RachelZegler – Bazaar’s April cover star – was gearing up for her first night out in a long time. “Tonight feels like such a special evening because it’s a chance to really celebrate,” the star of Evita told us. “When you’re doing eight shows a week, for 12 weeks, you don’t get the opportunity to go out very often. By the time that I’d finished doing press on our opening night party, the bar had already closed, so I ended up getting Chinese food and going home to talk to my mom. So it’s nice to actually get to celebrate this part, and be in a room with so many talented individuals who have made London theatre great this season. I feel very fortunate to have been a part of it.”

As well as the opportunity to let her hair down, Zegler was also in the running for the Best Actress award (which she won), so her outfit was always going to be a considered choice. “I wanted to wear something that was very special, but also something that would separate me from the character,” she explains of her @tamararalph look. “Now we are closing this London chapter, myself and my stylist, Sarah Tooley, thought it would be cool to separate ourselves from this a little bit.”
