Reading my victim impact statement now feels like reading a letter from another version of myself. I don’t judge her for anything she said. She meant every word. She was exhausted, traumatized, angry, medicated, terrified and trying to understand how her life had changed so violently. She believed she was broken. And on that day, she was allowed to feel that way. But she couldn’t see what I can see now: That moment wasn’t the end of her story. Healing hasn’t been linear. I haven’t arrived at some magical place where nothing hurts and everything makes sense. I’m still learning. I’m still growing. I’m still choosing myself. But he doesn’t own the rest of my story. I do. Thank you to my family, friends and clients who are like family who have been with me every step of my journey. I love you 🫶🏻🤍
