What’s great about these is how they connect two very different versions of me.

I remember hearing Korn for the first time in middle school.
TRL on MTV.
CD binders in backpacks.
And grinding hours on Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3.

Fast forward and I’m a teacher with students discovering the same band for the first time. Just through algorithms instead of cable TV. Some of them even bring CD players to school, which still blows my mind.

That’s what makes sneakers like this fun to me. They pull hard on nostalgia for me, while still feeling relevant to kids today, which is pretty cool to see.

Also shout out to the homie @xjuanwilson for influencing me to get a smoke machine. Definitely about to be a fun addition to the photography tool belt 🤘🏼🌽

Not a mockup. Not AI. Just some Rit Dye.

I secured a second pair of the adidas BadBo 1.0 in the colorway Bad Bunny wore for the Super Bowl, and since it’s a lighter base color, my brain immediately went to, “what would these look like if I dyed them?”

Well… here ya go.

Pretty pleased with how they turned out.

I’ve said this before, but a lot of collaborations lately feel safe.

Same approved names.
Same legacy partners.
Same formulas that already proved they sell.

There’s nothing wrong with that. It works, it’s safe, but those kinds of projects don’t move me.

That’s why what Adidas is doing with Hellstar feels interesting to me. Adidas could have doubled down on nostalgia and leaned into another heritage name. But they didn’t. They chose to platform something newer. Still forming. Still relatively raw, and it’s working.

Hellstar does not have decades of sneaker mythology attached to it. No Jordan era aura. No built in history to hide behind, but what they do have is energy, and a large community that has momentum.

And for me personally, it is really cool to see.

This partnership feels like offense move. Like building something instead of trying to protect something. It might not be everyone’s favorite visually, which is fine, but I respect the risk.

And if sneaker culture is going to continue to move forward, brands have to be willing to take those risks and appeal to generations other than millennials.

Wear your sneakers.

I bought this pair of Oklahoma Air Jordan 4 PEs last year as a gift to myself after hustling and working hard to carve out some photo work within the sneaker space. At the time, I had no intention of ever actually putting them on. They felt more like a trophy than a pair of shoes. Something to just look at and admire sitting in the clear drop front case.

But the more I looked at them sitting there, with that gold and crystal Jumpman logo always looking back at me, it made me want to wear them.

As valuable as some sneakers can be, I think they are enjoyed more when you can wear them, and create a memory in them, rather than just sitting in a case. That’s what’s valuable.

I don’t have any connection to Oklahoma, but I’ve always loved maroon because it’s the main color of the middle school I’ve taught at for the last 12 years. So I figured it’d be fun to wear these on yearbook day to close out this most recent school year.

Nothing super monumental. Just one of those small things that felt meaningful and fun to me.

So as lame or over the top sentimental as that whole story sounds, I think that’s the stuff that actually gives sneakers meaning in the first place. Not the price tag, not the rarity, not the fact that they’re a PE or a GR. Just the memories and little moments attached to them once you finally decide to wear them.

It took me a little while to track these down, but im very happy to finally have them in the collection

I remember when they first released and I thought the design was really well done, but I wasn’t able to grab them at the time. And as life moved on I forgot about them tbh.

What always stuck with me though was the intention behind them. This was supposed to be a white shoe originally, but Bad Bunny pushed for brown instead. Not to be different just to be different, but because he wanted to start things off with Adidas the same way he starts his day, with coffee.

I tried to play with that a little bit with the photos. Enjoy ☕️🐸🇵🇷

Adidas BadBo 1.0

You know I love the symbolism and meaning behind footwear projects. These carry a lot of weight, especially with the way things are happening in America right now. They lean into Bad Bunny staying true to his roots and finding success doing so, and the subtle star details on the back pulling inspiration from the Puerto Rico flag are beautiful.

I know most folks won’t look at a sneaker with that level of depth, but it’s always special when something so simple can carry so much meaning. Anytime a sneaker holds real emotion in its design, words don’t need to explain it.

From Puerto Rico to the world. 🐰

What I love about this run of adidas x Bad Bunny Gazelles is how each one feels like another page in the story of Puerto Rico.

The first pair, San Juan, pulled from the ocean. Benito felt personal and intimate. Now the City Series expands that story to new corners of the island with three unique pairs.

Cabo Rojo, El Yunque, Santurce—each one captures a different rhythm, a different color, a different place. Each highlights a part of the island that makes it truly special.

As a set, they remind me why Puerto Rico leaves such a lasting impression on anyone who’s been there. It’s not one thing, it’s everything. The culture, the people, the energy, the beauty.

Bad Bunny and adidas have found a way to share that with the world in such a special way, and that’s something I’ll always appreciate. I’m excited to see what’s coming next. ✌️

These are one of my favorite Nike SB Dunks from last year. I still wish I was able to get the Rodeo Tourmaline (need to circle back for those still), but I was really happy to land this pair.

The coolest part for me about these are the UV activated stitching. When there are details like that on sneakers, it just makes them fun.

Often in sneakers people take things seriously, which is fine, but it’s easy to forget that sneakers don’t always need to be that deep. If it brings a smile to your face, that should be enough, even if the internet disagrees.

A postcard from home 🇵🇷🥭

These are the Bad Bunny x adidas Gazelle Vega Baja. The final pair from the City Series released this year, pulling directly from the town that raised Benito. The golden yellow upper nods to the mango trees found on Vega Baja’s coat of arms, while the green accents tie back to the city flag.

What I love about this pair and the rest of the City Series is how intentional everything feels without being overdone. Simple, but still loaded with meaning.

This pair released in Puerto Rico near the tail end of Bad Bunny’s residency, and as part of the larger City Series, it fits into a bigger story, paying homage to Puerto Rico. Cabo Rojo. Santurce. El Yunque. Now Vega Baja. A cultural map told through sneakers, shaped by the places that made him.

Pretty cool if you ask me.

I spend so much time behind the camera, but I’m still not fully comfortable being in front of it. Even posting photos of myself in my classroom or making videos feels awkward every time. This isn’t me looking for reassurance or compliments. It’s just part of doing things I know feel uncomfortable in hopes that they eventually feel less foreign. Why do I want to get more comfortable with it? I don’t really know, other than I want to try things creatively that are a little uncomfortable, just to expand my skills ya know?

I try to stay creatively curious. It’s easy to fall into a rut, so trying to step outside of what feels normal can open up fresh ideas. Anyway, enough talking about my feelings. Shut up and talk shoes, AD lol.

These Salehe Bembury x New Balance 2002R Water Be The Guide are still one of my favorite projects he’s ever done. The color palette paired with the materials is phenomenal.

From The Archives | On My Mind

Looking back through some photos, this style kept catching my attention. My original intent with this style of photo was to play on the term sneaker head. Looking at the photos and using that term feels like a bad pun or dad joke, but I’m a dad so it’s ok.

Whenever I take photos I like to let ideas organically flow from whatever thought is in my mind. A lot of time in any creative process, that flow can get damned up by overthinking, giving way to unnecessary self criticism or comparison. The best thing I have found to avoid that is to just have fun. Don’t thinking about the results before you begin the process.

Maybe that’s too deep for some, because it’s just pictures of sneakers. But it’s something I love to do, and is on my mind all the time. Overthinking ruins the fun. Doing what I want keeps it fun.

Enjoy The Archives ✌🏼

The moment you forget you had a bid for a shoe and see the charge go through.

Thats happened to me a few times, some late not scrolling and shopping, putting low bits in, never thinking they are actually going to get accepted. Then boom, it hits.

Now that I have these, I’m glad my bid got accepted, but when they bank change hits, I definitely had second thoughts lol.

This is a shoe that wrapped up the Adidas AE1 line and did it in a great way. We don’t see it very often where an external collaborator gets to work on a current signature line. Pretty cool if you ask me.

I had an idea for 1 photo, I wanted to play off the blue flame pattern on the shoe and use that as the mood for the image (see frame 2)

I’m rambling. Enjoy the photos, and I hope your low bids get accepted. ✌🏼

These turned out way better than I expected 🌐🌀

Earlier this year I started experimenting with dip dyeing sneakers. This pair — the Bad Bunny x Adidas Response CL in the Wonder White colorway — went for a swim in a couple shades of blue Rit Dye… and came out looking like this.

I actually took these with me on a family trip to Puerto Rico earlier this spring. Felt fitting.

Now I’m bringing them back to the island this weekend for the @adidasoriginals x @badbunnypr activation 🇵🇷🐰

Can’t wait to capture more moments with these on foot.

I was thinking about these Answer IVs the other day and the thought that there’s something interesting in how I view these compared to others.

A lot of what we millennials and older consider “timeless classics” in sneakers is heavily influenced by nostalgia.

Every time I’ve worn these Reeboks to school, at least a few kids have clowned them. They don’t see them how I do. They never saw Allen Iverson play, let alone know who he is and what he did for the game of basketball and sneakers, and I don’t expect them to.

A lot of what we call “classics” only became classics because people lived through the moments or memories attached to them.

It’s a good reminder that sneaker appreciation isn’t universal. Every generation has its own nostalgia, its own moments, and its own stories.

For me, the Answer 4 will always be one of the greatest basketball shoes ever made because of me growing up in that era.

If someone else thinks differently, that’s ok. There’s too much of an “I know more than you” approach when talking to others in sneakers.

What makes sneaker culture interesting is the diversity within it. Just because someone doesn’t share the same sentiments as you doesn’t mean they are in the wrong, it just means they experience things differently, and that’s ok.
