The NFL’s first-ever regular-season game in Madrid will be played tomorrow at the newly renovated Santiago Bernabeu.

The field is stored in an underground greenhouse with automated mowers, irrigation, and LED lighting.

It's easily the NFL’s best international venue ever.

The FBI is holding a press conference right now on the details around this morning's sports gambling bust. Here are some of the highlights: 1. Current and former NBA players and coaches Chauncey Billups, Terry Rozier, and Damon Jones have been arrested. 2. This was an illegal gambling and sports rigging operation that spanned years across 11 states. In total, 30 individuals have been arrested (13 mafia members). 3. The case involves La Cosa Nostra (the Italian mafia). 4. Charges include illegal gambling, wire fraud, and extortion. 5. There are two separate indictments. The first involves six defendants accused of participating in a sports corruption scheme that exploited insider information involving NBA players and teams. The defendants leveraged their connections to place prop bets based on confidential insider information, winning tens of thousands of dollars per bet. The second indictment involves 31 defendants charged with participating in a nationwide scheme to rig illegal poker games. The FBI says they used high-tech cheating technology to steal millions of dollars from victims in underground poker games that were secretly fixed. 6. The two cases are separate, but there are three overlapping defendants, including former NBA player and coach Damon Jones. 7. The FBI says that NBA player Terry Rozier told the defendants that he was going to leave a game early on March 23, 2023, with an injury. The defendants then placed more than $200,000 of wagers on the unders for his prop bets, with Rozier leaving the game after nine minutes. Those bets paid out tens of thousands of dollars in profits, and the defendants and Rozier counted the money at his house. 8 The FBI says that former Raptors player Jontay Porter was threatened to participate in the sports gambling scheme because of his gambling debts. 9. Teams that were bet on during the sports gambling scheme include the Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Toronto Raptors. 10. The rigged poker games occurred in the Hamptons, Miami, Las Vegas, and Manhattan. 11. The poker scheme targeted victims who were lured to participate in rigged poker games by the chance to play alongside former professional athletes. These athletes included Chauncey Billups and Damon Jones. 12. The FBI says that the defendants utilized altered shuffling machines to read the cards in the deck and then relayed that information to an off-site operator. The offsite operator — known as the "quarterback" — then sent that information to someone at the table. 13. The FBI also says that the defendants utilized other cheating technologies, including poker chip trays that read cards through hidden cameras, special contact lenses and glasses that could read marked cards, and x-ray poker tables that could read cards face down. 14. The FBI says that the defendants robbed a victim at gunpoint to acquire a rigged shuffling machine. 15. The sports gambling investigation is called "Operation Nothing But Net," while the poker investigation is called "Operation Royal Flush." 16. The FBI has been working on this investigation for four years, with victims losing at least $7 million. 17. One specific victim lost at least $1.8 million. 18. The FBI reviewed thousands of hours of video evidence and executed more than two dozen search warrants. These are just accusations at this point. I am just pointing out details from the FBI's investigation. For more updates, join 135,000 others who read my 3x weekly newsletter: t.co/OgN8EYHbxw

After reading through the 33-page term sheet for the Chiefs' new stadium in Kansas, I think it's one of the most lopsided stadium deals in NFL history.

Kansas is essentially giving the Chiefs $3 billion (stadium funding + mixed-use development funding + tax incentives), yet getting virtually nothing in return.

The Chiefs get to keep 100% of the revenue from all stadium activities, including ticket sales, concessions, sponsorships, naming rights deals, personal seat licenses, and more. That applies to NFL games and all other events (concerts, basketball games, etc.).

Kansas will own the stadium, with the Chiefs paying $7 million in rent annually. But that money doesn't go back to the state; it goes into an account the Chiefs can use for renovations, repairs, and operational expenses.

That means the Chiefs can use their own rent money to hire stadium security, parking staff, and concession vendors throughout the season.

I know Kansas had to offer a great deal to get the Chiefs to leave Arrowhead, but this is worse than I expected.

Here's a full breakdown of everything I found in the term sheet: https://t.co/vtJ6S8DwOx

Mark Walter has been looking for cash to fund billions of dollars in loans for months, and he isn't just trying to sell his sports assets. According to @Ourand_Puck, Mark Walter engaged Charter Communications to see whether the company wanted to exit its local TV deals for the Lakers and Dodgers several years early in exchange for a lump-sum payment, but those talks went nowhere. The Dodgers currently have one of the best local TV deals in sports — 25 years, $8.35 billion for an average of $334 million annually — but Walter was willing to exit the deal early in exchange for upfront cash today. That's crazy.

The grass has been installed at the Buffalo Bills new stadium.

The Bills currently play on artificial turf, but the new stadium will have natural grass.

To deal with the cold weather, the Bills have installed a heater beneath the surface to melt snow.

Rory McIlroy is an investor in Whoop, wears one of the company's wristbands while playing, and allows the brand to share his data periodically.

Here are some of his Masters highlights:

• 24,000+ steps on Sunday
• 91,000+ steps during the tournament

Rory's heart rate spiked to 135 BPM during his tee shot on 18, dropped to 121 BPM during his approach shot, fell further to 105 BPM during his winning putt, and then jumped back up to 150 BPM during his celebration.

His resting heart rate for the week was 47-49 BPM.

Rory says he follows a strict routine during the PGA Tour season to ensure proper rest and recovery:

• No caffeine after 2 PM
• Last meal at least 2 hours before bed
• Magnesium and theanine for sleep quality
• Blue-light-blocking glasses in the evening
• Sauana or Epsom salt bath when available
• Cool room temperature for sleep

He follows the same three-hour routine before every round: arrive at the course → warm up in the gym → eat breakfast → hit balls on the range → putting green.

Rory says he believes his focus on longevity will help him play another 10+ years at a high level, and his physiological age on Whoop is now 1.5 years younger than his actual age.

Plus, it turned out to be a pretty good investment.

Rory initially invested in Whoop in 2020 when the company was valued at $1.2 billion. While we don't know exactly how much he invested, Whoop recently raised another round at a $10.1 billion valuation.

That's an 8.4x multiple in five years.

Not bad, not bad.

Norway's youth sports model is super unique:

• No scorekeeping until age 13
• Participation trophies for everyone
• No travel teams or national championships
• No online publishing of scores or athlete rankings
• Parents typically spend less than $1,000 per child per year

The result?

A 93% participation rate — 40 points higher than the U.S. — and more Winter Olympic medals than any other country in history, despite Norway having a population comparable to the Philadelphia metro area (5.6 million).

And it's not just winter sports...

Norway now produces some of the world’s best summer sport athletes, including Erling Haaland (soccer), Casper Ruud (tennis), Viktor Hovland (golf), and Jakob Ingebrigtsen (track and field).

So if you want to learn more about how Norway's youth sports system actually works (and what other countries can learn from it), here's an essay I recently wrote during the Winter Olympics that breaks it all down.
