Have you seen this man? The owner of a Lark Street Music in Teaneck is asking the public for help after a man was caught on surveillance video stealing two rare mandolins from the shop. The theft happened the afternoon of Dec. 22, when the suspect removed two mandolins from the wall, hid them inside his winter coat, and walked out of the store. Owner Bernard Levine said the instruments — a 1949 Gibson F-12 and a Weber Yellowstone — are valued at $8,000 to $9,000 and are not commonly found in music stores. After noticing the instruments were missing, Levine reviewed security footage and reported the theft to police. He later shared the video on social media in hopes someone recognizes the suspect or the stolen instruments. - Follow to keep in the local loop #bergencounty #bergencountynj #northjerseynews #njnews #teanecknj

Have you heard? A thoroughbred racehorse named Hawkstone escaped #MonmouthPark Racetrack yesterday. The horse was spotted trotting down the westbound lanes of Route 36 and stunning drivers before being safely captured. Trainer Cal Lynch said Hawkstone was spooked and slipped away from his handler through an open gate something he called "out of character" for the typically calm horse. Lynch expressed concern that the stable gate had been left open, saying it put both the horse and public in danger. Learn more👇 A Middletown High School North teacher and girls’ basketball coach has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a student and now faces 5½ years in prison, loss of his job, and lifetime sex offender requirements. Justin McGhee, 36, admitted in court on Nov. 17 that he engaged in sexual activity with a victim who was between 16 and 18 years old. The assault occurred on Jan. 26 in Ocean Township, where he lives. He was arrested earlier this year after allegations of a sexual relationship with a student surfaced. An investigation by Middletown police and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office determined the relationship began in late 2024. What are your thoughts? The Borough of Paramus has filed a lawsuit against the American Dream mall, claiming it violates Bergen County’s long-standing blue laws by keeping roughly 120 stores open on Sundays. Mayor Christopher DiPiazza said the mall’s actions give it “an unfair advantage” over other retailers in the county who are legally required to stay closed. Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco echoed support for the restrictions, which date back to the 17th century. Voters last upheld them more than 30 years ago, in a 1993 referendum. American Dream argues it sits on state-owned land and is not bound by county rules, calling the lawsuit “a meritless political stunt.” Residents remain split. Some say the laws protect workers’ right to a day of rest, while shoppers told CBS New York they appreciate having the extra day to shop. The legal challenge could determine whether the Meadowlands mall must comply with Bergen County’s blue laws - For more #local news — follow @townsofnewjersey #bergencounty #bergencountynj #northjerseynews #paramusnj

What are your thoughts? ICE is considering a 470,000-square-foot vacant warehouse off Route 46 in Roxbury as a potential site for a new immigrant detention center, triggering rapid pushback from local officials and advocacy groups. According to organizers, a leaked ICE document revealed the exact address of the proposed site and a 9 a.m. site visit scheduled with less than 12 hours’ notice. By early morning, multiple organizations were on the ground conducting surveillance to confirm the visit and document activity. Black SUVs believed to be carrying federal officials were spotted outside the warehouse as the tour took place. Township leaders said they were not notified in advance. After learning of the visit, Roxbury officials and the police chief went to the site and met with ICE representatives and the building owner to raise concerns about public safety, traffic, limited police and volunteer fire resources, and water and sewer capacity. The night before the visit, the Roxbury Township Council unanimously passed a resolution opposing an ICE detention center in the township. Demonstrators from the No ICE North Jersey Alliance also protested near the site along Route 46. Advocacy groups say their next step is to press the Town Council to change zoning ordinances immediately to block the project before it advances. Township officials said site selection is still months away but emphasized transparency and resident safety as priorities. The warehouse, built just a few years ago, remains vacant. ICE and leasing agents did not immediately comment. - 🎥 @sussexvisibilitybrigade Follow to stay in the local loop #morriscounty #morriscountynj #njnews #northjerseynews #roxburynj

Have you heard? A 28-year-old Roselle man was arrested last week after allegedly kidnapping a woman from the County College of Morris and holding her handcuffed inside his car, authorities said. The case began Dec. 5 after the woman’s parents reported her missing when she failed to pick up her children and could not be reached. Police traced her last location to the college in Randolph, where officers found her car and a damaged phone. Surveillance footage showed a man later identified as Akram Elsayed approaching her and leaving the parking lot in his vehicle. Later that night, police located Elsayed’s car in Andover Township and arrested him after a multi-agency pursuit. Officers found the woman handcuffed inside the vehicle and recovered a handgun near the driver’s door. She was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Elsayed faces numerous charges, including kidnapping, carjacking, burglary, and multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault, and is being held at the Morris County Correctional Facility. Prosecutors said the incident was targeted and posed no ongoing threat to students or staff. - Follow for more #local news #morriscounty #morriscountynj #northjerseynews #njnews
