Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich (recent history) on Sandwiches of History⁣ One more orbit around the sun has transpired for yours truly and, as is tradition for my birthday here on Sandwiches of History, I’m making a sandwich just because I want to. For the past 4 years I’ve made The Tomato (twice), The Bologna, and The Collard Melt, all of which are fantastic sandwiches from the cookbook, Turkey and The Wolf: Flavor Trippin’ In New Orleans. Well, this year I am ending that run because I’m doing a Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich…from Chef Mason Hereford…of Turkey and The Wolf. This was published in Garden & Gun Magazine thought, and not in Turkey and The Wolf: Flavor Trippin’ In New Orleans. I know it may be tempting but do not do a shot every time I say “now” or “alright.” You’ll be a goner before the vids done. Lol Oh, if you’re tempted to comment on my blood pressure or cholesterol, rest assured that I just had my annual physical and everything is a-ok. #fyp #sandwichesofhistory

Sopress So Clean (recent history) on Sandwiches of History⁣ Today, we’re doing a “Sandwich of Recent History.” More specifically, from my make Jake over at Adventures In Aardia and his Roll For Sandwich series. According to Jake this was a 10 out of 10 sandwich so you know I had to give it a go. Also, be sure to get his new cookbook - Roll for Sandwich Cookbook! And yes, I will be tucking into that shortly for some sandwich vids. #fyp #sandwichesofhistory

Pastrami, Cottage Cheese, and Banana Bread Sandwich (Mitch Hedberg history) on Sandwiches of History⁣ I’ve long resisted the call to do a sandwich based off of a comedians joke. Not because I don’t think they’re funny but because the sandwich is never intended to be eaten. After all, it was a joke. So I was not gonna make the late great comedian Mitch Hedberg’s Pastrami, Cottage Cheese, and Banana Bread Sandwich. But, someone in the comments said they’d donate $100 to a charity of my choice if I did by day 100 so I thought, why not? Not only that, I am going to match that donation and have both go to Feeding America which helps get food to folks who desperately need it. @Coffeepoops #fyp #sandwichesofhistory #mitchhedberg

Top 5 Worst Sandwiches of 2025 on Sandwiches of History⁣ After highlighting some top Olden Tymee and International sandwiches from 2025 in the last two vids, today we look at the failures. Yes, it’s the Top 5 Worst Sandwiches of 2025 on Sandwiches of History. When I went back and reviewed the data from this year’s video I was surprised to not have given a zeroes. But that is due to me leaning on the half point a lot. I guess I figure it’s all food and therefore has to really be just god-awful to the point you wouldn’t touch it even if you were starving (which is probably a pretty high bar tbh). Enjoy? #fyp #sandwichesofhistory #sandwiches #yearinreview

Runzas (1949) on Sandwiches of History Today were making a sandwich of regional and our history. That’s because Rachel was kind enough to share scans of recipe cards from aunt and grandma for Runzas which apparently originated out of Nebraska in 1949. Now, I know it isn’t a traditional “sandwich” but it’s still filling in bread so I am going for it. Of course, that begs the question is a calzone a sandwich? I technically no, but maybe yes in spirit? #SandwichesOfHistory #fyp

Bay State Sandwich (1936) w/Guest Host Bryan Roof Sandwiches of History Well, it’s August and that is when I traditionally take a break from posting and ask friends of the show to guest host. As you may know, my mother passed away a couple of weeks ago and I took some time off. But, I had already asked folks if they would guest host so to ease back into posting I am going to share those videos. I’ve watched our first guest host, Bryan Roof, on Cook’s Country for years now. He’s also an editor at America’s Test Kitchen and even has his own show on YouTube called On The Road. Given that he resides in Massachusetts I figured he might like to tackle the Bay State Sandwich from 1936’s 1,001 Sandwiches. About that…lol #fyp #sandwichesofhistory @America’s Test Kitchen

Pineapple Sandwich (1943) on Sandwiches of History Every once in a while I like to take a layup, as the kids say. Well, today is that day for I am doing the Pineapple Sandwich for The Joy Of Cooking of 1943. It has one more ingredient than pineapple in it though (and no, I’m not talking about butter bread…although there is that too) #fyp #SandwichesOfHistory

Denver Club Sandwich (1915) on Sandwiches of History Time for yet another iteration of the Club Sandwich, the Denver Club Sandwich. This one comes courtesy of Benton’s Woman’s Club Cook Book published in 1915. Like most recipe from this era, it doesn’t really look like the Club Sandwich we know today. Still, sounds pretty tasty. #fyp #sandwichesofhistory #clubsandwich

September Sandwich of the TV Show Fringe (early 2000s) on Sandwiches of History⁣ Time from another sandwich of TV history albeit this one is much newer than others I’ve done. That’s because it is from the early 2000s TV show Fringed. In season 1, episode 4, a character with the name September (who is from a parallel world) orders what could easily be described as one of the hotter sandwiches we’ve done here on Sandwiches of History. Still, gotta try it. Be sure to stick around to the very end. #fyp #sandwichesofhistory

Potato Grilled Cheese Sandwich (recent history) on Sandwiches of History Every once in a while I like to indulge in a sandwich of recent history. A bunch of you fine folks sent me a post by Chef Tyler wherein he encrusted a grilled cheese with mashed potatoes before cooking. I don’t typically have mashed potatoes lying around but seeing as we just had Thanksgiving and that is one of the main side dishes, I do have some! What’s interesting, though, is that the mashed potatoes aren’t as big an aha moment as is what he puts on the inside. #fyp #sandwichesofhistory @Chef Tyler

Torta Ahogada (Mexico) on Sandwiches of History⁣ We’re headed to Mexico for today’s International Sandwich Sunday. More specifically for the Torta Ahogada. This sandwich features carnitas which is pork cooked in its own fat, then crisped up on the plancha or grill top. It also has refried beans, two different salsas, and, unlike many other torts, is served on a sourdough roll called a Birote Salado. It is a lot and as you’ll see in the video, I do use some shortcuts because, you know, time. #fyp #sandwichesofhistory

Faye Sandwich (our history) on Sandwiches of History⁣ Today’s sandwich of “our history” comes to us courtesy of Kelly whose mom Faye would make this sandwich back in the 1970s. Cheese Steak Sandwich (1974) on Sandwiches of History Today’s Cheese Steak Sandwich (not THE Cheesesteak Sandwich) is a very 1970s affair. Which makes sense given that it comes from Williams’ Sandwich Recipes published in 1974. Still, it does sound pretty tasty…for 1974. #fyp #sandwichesofhistory

Sandwich (1881) on Sandwiches of History After watching this video, it might be tempting to thing that Sandwich from 1881’s Housekeeping in the Blue Grass was using a vinegar with lower acidity since, at the time, there was no federal regulation regarding that. Still, it would seem that vinegar at the time ranged from 4% - 6% as opposed the 5% required today. As for the sandwich, I don’t even know what they were thinking. #fyp #SandwichesOfHistory
