You’re a Software Engineer and can’t work from home anymore True story, I was once working from home and went to Thailand the week before. But I didn’t tell the company, they laid me off whilst I was there. To my surprise they said I could finish early and to send the laptop the next day 😅 Ib - @ellisflurry software engineer edition #codinghumor #programming, #coding #workingfromhome

give me a second to process this *the role is going to evolve and be less about writing code, more about the human elements. Validating LLM output, working with others to translate a business needs into a feature or product, ideation. Not necessarily a bad thing, embrace it. This is not a doomsday post (by an ‘ai influencer’ who’s never worked on a professional codebase in their life and doesn’t understand the role). It’s me mourning that I won’t be hand coding much in the future. Which I will miss. But things change, I wouldn’t want to do the same thing in 10 years time. And change is exciting to. The SWE role will evolve, and I’ve written extensively in my newsletter and also talked about it in my YouTube videos if you’re curious 👾 #softwareengineer #programming #coding #Tech

Become an AI Engineer by 2027 👾🤖 This role is exploding, and there will likely be more of these than machine learning engineers. This how to become one and build a SaaS Video on YouTube out this week (more detailed, i.e including LangChain and MCP) [Ai Engineer, software engineer, python, machine learning, coding]

A visual representation of LLM’s 👾 Listen I’m not judging, this is just what happens ok. This is a representation of large language models, everytime you ask a question about your code, or anything for that matter. This is what is going on under the hood. Parts of this video are taken from one of my favourite YouTube channels, 3blue1brown #programming #coding #ai #Tech

Why are ‘the girlies building Cyberdecks’? 👾 Not sure how long this trend will last for, but it is very fascinating to me. Whilst there are creators doing it for views/the aesthetic, for others there’s real ethics and a politics involved in it. I wonder if the next extension of the trend involves Linux. Credit to any of the creators mentioned #cyberdeck

coding a bicep curl counter app 👾 Let me know if you guys want a video walking through how to build this. this is a fun python, machine learning/computer vision project that uses pose estimation to detect arm movement through your webcam. Took me a few hours, as the text just wasn’t appearing for ages (had the usual breakdown turned into god complex once it worked in the end). 🤌 #coding #Tech #programming #machinelearning #python

Build a second brain w claude + obsidian 🧠👾 The setup
(this won’t take you much time, steepest learning curve is getting used to Obsidian if you’ve never used it before): 1. download obsidian (it’s free), create a vault →
this is just a folder on your computer where every note is a markdown file you actually own 2. Start dumping: meeting notes, book highlights, random ideas, half-baked thoughts. don’t organise yet. just capture. 3. open claude, upload your notes or connect your vault → now you can ask “what did I learn from that book in march?” and actually get an answer 4. build the habit: capture in obsidian, think with claude. This is the key part, make it a part of your life. The beauty is, it’s whatever you want it to be, it could be deeply personal, or for your business.
I used to have a hand written tech focused second brain (I’ve made videos about it), but this is next level and a cool use case for AI. Anyone made one? Let me know how you’re using it

My simple life as Software Engineer in Bali I say it’s simple, as I don’t own a car, rarely buy anything materialistic, and prioritise exercising. Whilst building a career, and investing what I earn and prioritising experiences. I read, gym and code/build things. I travel when I can (I used to be a full time digital nomad, but now only do it when I’m excited to travel or escape the European winter). If this is your vibe, follow if you’d like

I like the idea of disappearing and isolating yourself from the world if you are not happy with where you are. In 2020, I wasn’t happy with where I was in life. So I did this. I shut myself off from the world and just led a simple life. Went to the gym and studied, sometimes 10 hours a day. That was it pretty much. Only years later do I appreciate the sacrifice of that time and what it has given me today. Physically, mentally, career wise, financially, the lot. This caption was originally inspired by a YouTube video from The Maths Sorcerer (altho I changed it a lot in the end, and I don’t know physics lol) #math #coding #programming #softwareengineer

Quantum computing explained 👾 If it does as it promises, it will change the world. Quantum computing is a new type of computing that uses qubits, which can represent more than just 0 or 1, to tackle certain problems in very different ways than normal computers do. Its biggest promise is in areas like materials science, drug discovery, optimization, and cryptography, where it could eventually do useful work beyond classical machines. Like AI was, it’s the kind of thing that could explode and change our lives. Follow for more informal, non patronising tech explainers [quantum computing]
