Tacko Fall didn’t come into the NBA with hype or a contract or a guaranteed roster spot. He came in on a two-way deal, fighting for minutes that most nights never came. And yet every time he checked in at TD Garden, the place lost its mind. “We want Tacko.” The chants started in the preseason and never really stopped. Fans chanting his name like he was the franchise cornerstone. Standing ovations for a guy logging three minutes in garbage time. “MVP” chants after an alley-oop against the Hornets. Brad Stevens smiling on the sideline as the crowd roared until he finally waved him into the game. Boston is one of the most demanding sports cities in the world. They don’t give that kind of love easily. You earn it. But Tacko Fall didn’t earn it with stats. He earned it with something harder to measure. The joy he played with. The way he carried himself. A 7’6” man moving through the world with a humility that made you root for him before he ever touched the ball. His coach said it best — he hoped fans would appreciate Tacko not just for his size, but for how good a person he was and how hard he was working. Boston saw both.
