Back in 1999, local news stations were warning parents about Pokémon cards selling out and prices doubling almost overnight. What started as kids fighting over $2.99 packs quickly turned into one of the biggest collectible crazes America had ever seen. Even back then, stores were struggling to keep Pokémon on shelves as demand exploded heading into Christmas.
