A former vice president at Bucks County Community College is facing multiple charges after police say he broke into Central Bucks West High School earlier this month.

Albert McLaughlin, 47, of Doylestown, was arrested Aug. 4 and charged with burglary, defiant trespass, theft, and receiving stolen property. Police allege he squeezed through a construction fence early on Aug. 3, entered the school, stole food, clothing, and other items, took a shower, and left wearing a T-shirt and carrying a coffee mug taken from the school.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows McLaughlin inside from 2 to 8:30 a.m., collecting items, storing them in an unlocked office, and leaving with a backpack he did not have when he arrived. An inventory found five shirts missing, and officials say he also entered the infirmary and rearranged supplies.

McLaughlin, who joined the college in July, was placed on leave Aug. 6 and is no longer employed there. He has previously held roles in education administration and business operations.

He is being held at the Bucks County Correctional Center on $100,000 bail, with a preliminary hearing set for Aug. 18.

Long before becoming a Hollywood icon, Rob Reiner began his career as a 17-year-old apprentice at @theaterbcp in New Hope in 1964, an experience he often credited as formative.

Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead Sunday at their Los Angeles home in what police described as an apparent double homicide. Their son, Nick Reiner, has been arrested and charged in connection with the killings, according to the LAPD.

Playhouse officials said Reiner frequently expressed gratitude for the training he received in New Hope and fondly recalled his time there. He was part of a notable season that included performers like Alan Alda, Liza Minnelli, and Merv Griffin, and joined a long list of alumni — including Grace Kelly and Robert Redford — who launched major careers after apprenticing at the theater.

As his career flourished, Reiner continued to speak highly of the Bucks County Playhouse and its lasting influence on his life and work.

About 125 students walked out of class Friday at North Penn High School during a student-organized protest against ICE.

The roughly 40-minute walkout took place during sixth period and was not school-sponsored. Students gathered outside the front of the school holding signs opposing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and supporting immigrant families.

School officials said the protest remained calm and that staff and police were present for safety.

Students who left class will receive standard consequences for cutting class. No counter-protests or major disruptions were reported.

Police in Bucks County say a surge in recent car thefts is linked to New Jersey-based groups known as the “Kia Boys.”

Thefts have been reported in Middletown, Lower Makefield, Newtown, and other towns, with popular models like Ford, Hyundai, Honda, Genesis, BMW, and Jeep targeted. Some stolen vehicles were later recovered in Trenton and Camden.

Middletown Township Police urge residents to lock cars, roll up windows, park in well-lit areas, and never leave keys inside. Suspicious activity — such as masked groups checking car handles or vehicles circling a block — should be reported immediately.

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission says the Washington Crossing Bridge is suffering from major structural, operational and safety problems as officials begin deciding what should happen to the 120-year-old span.

In a newly released video, the commission outlined long-standing issues with the toll-free bridge that links Mercer County, New Jersey and Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The bridge was built in 1905, predates modern automobile traffic and now has narrow 7.5-foot travel lanes, limited load capacity, frequent vehicle strikes and aging foundations.

The video is part of a multi-year “Washington Crossing Bridge Alternatives Analysis,” launched in August 2024, to study options for improving safety, mobility and pedestrian access while protecting nearby businesses. Officials must also decide whether revenue from the commission’s toll bridges should be used to fund major work on the aging structure.

Two public scoping meetings are scheduled:

Feb. 10, 5:30–8 p.m. at The Crossing Church in Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania.

Feb. 11, 5:30–8 p.m. at Union Fire Company and Rescue Squad in Titusville, New Jersey.

More details on the study are available through the commission’s Washington Crossing Bridge project site.

@roccosatthebrick abruptly closed Saturday night, catching employees and customers off guard just as the busy holiday dining season was set to begin. Staff said they were informed of the shutdown at the end of their shift, and by Sunday no explanation had been provided publicly, fueling widespread speculation online.

Some residents speculated that the closure stemmed from a dispute between the restaurant’s operators and the owner of the Brick Hotel, while others pointed to increased competition from The Capital Grille, which opened in 2024 at the Village at Newtown.

The restaurant, known for steak, seafood, and its scenic views of State Street, offered indoor and outdoor dining and a popular bar. Its sudden closure left many customers concerned about unused gift cards. A sign posted on the door Sunday stated “We Are Closed” and said gift card refunds would be available on Monday, listing a contact phone number. Another notice clarified that the Brick Hotel remains open, as it operates separately from the restaurant.

Rocco’s had opened inside the historic Brick Hotel in early 2018. The building, owned by Verindar Kaur—who also holds the liquor license—was previously featured on Gordon Ramsay’s Hotel Hell, where Ramsay harshly criticized the property before it underwent major renovations that paved the way for Rocco’s arrival.

Have you heard about this? A 34-year-old #Feasterville-Trevose man, Dean J. Decker Jr., is being held on $5 million bail after allegedly attempting to kill his wife in a brutal domestic assault, according to #LowerSouthampton Township Police. Authorities say Decker used his hands, fists, feet, and a wooden dowel rod to inflict life-threatening injuries on his wife. Police responded to their home on January 29 for a reported medical emergency and determined the injuries were the result of domestic violence. The victim was first taken to Saint Mary Medical Center and later transferred to Penn Presbyterian Hospital in #Philadelphia for life-saving treatment. Decker faces multiple charges, including attempted homicide, kidnapping, strangulation, false imprisonment, aggravated assault, and terroristic threats. He remains in custody at #BucksCounty Prison following a preliminary hearing. - Follow for more #localnews reporting by patch.com #buckscounty #buckscountypa #buckspa #pennsylvania #panews #phillysuburbs #townsofpennsylvania

What are your thoughts?

In an unprecedented decision, officials have announced that the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge will close for 6 months to help "preserve the sanctity of Washington's historic Delaware River crossing."

The initiative, titled "Re-Crossing History," is part of a controversial new preservation effort. Moving forward, the only permitted way to cross between New Hope and Lambertville will be via licensed rowboat — to "fully honor the experience of 1776."

Pennsylvania officials say it's about reconnecting with the past. "If General Washington could do it on Christmas Day, you can do it on your morning commute," said one spokesperson. "It builds character."

Rowboat service will be offered hourly from 8am - 5pm., weather permitting. Tickets will cost $4 for Lambertville residents, $9 for New Hope Residents, including a complimentary tricorn hat (while supplies last).

No pets or bicycles allowed.

For those unwilling to row, the official detour will direct drivers to the Washington Crossing Bridge, 7 miles south. Detour planners described this as “spiritually aligned with the founding fathers’ commute.”

Local businesses are concerned, but history buffs are thrilled. "Honestly, it's about time we took patriotism seriously," said one man in full colonial garb.

Happy April Fools' from Towns Of. 💚
