Have you seen this man?

The owner of a Lark Street Music in Teaneck is asking the public for help after a man was caught on surveillance video stealing two rare mandolins from the shop.

The theft happened the afternoon of Dec. 22, when the suspect removed two mandolins from the wall, hid them inside his winter coat, and walked out of the store. Owner Bernard Levine said the instruments — a 1949 Gibson F-12 and a Weber Yellowstone — are valued at $8,000 to $9,000 and are not commonly found in music stores.

After noticing the instruments were missing, Levine reviewed security footage and reported the theft to police. He later shared the video on social media in hopes someone recognizes the suspect or the stolen instruments.

A 49-year-old man, David Cohen, was charged with simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child after allegedly headbutting and screaming at a young girl at Bergen Town Center Mall on Friday evening, according to Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti.

Police say witnesses saw Cohen strike the girl in the face multiple times and shout, "I hope you die!" The child had visible bruises, and mall surveillance confirmed the incident.

Cohen was arrested on-site and taken to Bergen County Jail. He was released Sunday. The case was referred to the prosecutor's Special Victims Unit and child protection services.

What are your thoughts?

Montvale police released a dramatic video showing a 15-year-old e-bike rider slamming into a car to highlight the dangers of reckless riding.

The July 18 crash occurred when a car made a legal left turn out of a gas station and the teen, estimated to be traveling 40 mph, struck the vehicle’s side and flipped onto its roof, Chief Douglas McDowell said. The boy was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment.

McDowell said summonses may be issued to both the teen and the driver. The department shared the video as a warning about the risks of high-speed e-bike riding.

What are your thoughts?

The Borough of Paramus has filed a lawsuit against the American Dream mall, claiming it violates Bergen County’s long-standing blue laws by keeping roughly 120 stores open on Sundays.

Mayor Christopher DiPiazza said the mall’s actions give it “an unfair advantage” over other retailers in the county who are legally required to stay closed. Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco echoed support for the restrictions, which date back to the 17th century.

Voters last upheld them more than 30 years ago, in a 1993 referendum.

American Dream argues it sits on state-owned land and is not bound by county rules, calling the lawsuit “a meritless political stunt.”

Residents remain split. Some say the laws protect workers’ right to a day of rest, while shoppers told CBS New York they appreciate having the extra day to shop. The legal challenge could determine whether the Meadowlands mall must comply with Bergen County’s blue laws

A 26-year-old man from #Newark was arrested after allegedly breaking into a #Paramus Shake Shack multiple times, cooking food, and stealing merch.

The restaurant’s manager reported a break-in on June 28 after spotting the man on surveillance footage. Video showed the suspect entering the closed restaurant on several occasions, using the grill, and taking items.

Police launched an investigation and identified the suspect. On June 30, he returned to the Route 17 Shake Shack (I know this is a video of GSP) and attempted another break-in. Officers caught him nearby wearing a Shake Shack T-shirt and carrying a chef’s hat.

He was charged with burglary and theft and taken to #BergenCounty Jail. That same day, police linked him to another break-in at a building on Kalisa Way, which he may have been using for shelter.

A 28-year-old man from Franklin Lakes was struck by lightning while golfing at Ballyowen Golf Course in #HardystoNJ yesterday.

The lightning reportedly entered through the victims head and exited down the right side of his body, 2 golfers nearby started doing CPR. He was then airlifted to Cooperman Barnabas Hospital in Livingston.

As of Wednesday, his condition had not been publicly released.

The golf course, part of Crystal Springs Resort, has not issued a statement. According to the CDC, lightning strikes are extremely rare — less than one in a million — and most are non-fatal.

What are your thoughts?

A 62-year-old woman is facing criminal charges after allegedly driving her car into a crowd of anti-ICE protesters during an immigration rally in Fairview, New Jersey, on Saturday.

Fairview police say Linda Roglen of North Bergen has been charged with assault by auto resulting in injury and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries. The incident began with a verbal altercation between Roglen and one of the protesters near the intersection of Fairview and Anderson Avenues. Moments later, she reportedly drove into the group, striking several people before fleeing.

Multiple protesters were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The incident, caught on camera, remains under investigation. Authorities have not said whether the protester who spit may also face charges.

Protest organizers condemned both the violent response and the initial provocation, urging safer, more responsible behavior during public demonstrations.

What are your thoughts?

President Donald Trump announced he is terminating the Gateway Project, a multibillion-dollar plan to construct a new rail tunnel between New Jersey and Manhattan.

At a White House event, Trump said the project — long championed by Sen. Chuck Schumer — would be “terminated on a permanent basis,” calling it a waste of “billions and billions of dollars.” The decision follows the federal government’s withdrawal of funding for the project 15 days earlier, during the ongoing shutdown.

Schumer slammed the move on X, calling Gateway “the most important infrastructure project in America,” and describing Trump’s decision as “pure spite and stupidity.”

Sen. Cory Booker and Rep. Andy Kim issued a joint statement calling the move “a direct attack on New Jersey,” emphasizing that the project has historically enjoyed bipartisan support.

Gov. Phil Murphy’s office declined to comment.

Law enforcement at the local, state, & federal levels is investigating a Closter man after photos of his Cadillac, bearing a swastika decal and a link to his antisemitic website, circulated on social media. The image, shared by the group Stop Antisemitism, sparked outrage in the Jewish community and among residents.

The swastika was removed Wednesday, and by Thursday someone had spray-painted a neon green Star of David on the car—an apparent act of retaliation. Police are investigating both incidents.

No charges have been filed, but Closter Police Chief James Buccola said charges remain possible, noting the complexity of bias cases involving free speech.

In a blog post, the car’s owner, identified as John Kanjiram, defended the swastika as a “symbol of peace” and emphasized his free-speech rights. Officials say he was fired from his job in May and may have improperly obtained New York EMT license plates, prompting calls from state lawmakers for their revocation.

Closter Mayor John Glidden and Rep. Josh Gottheimer condemned the display as a blatant act of antisemitism. FBI data released this week shows anti-Jewish harassment now accounts for 69% of all religion-based hate crimes in the U.S.

What are your thoughts?

Bergen County officials are facing criticism for not lowering flags to half-staff in honor of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk, despite a presidential proclamation ordering the gesture nationwide.

Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on September 10 during a public speaking event at Utah Valley University. The White House directive, issued Friday, called for flags on federal buildings to be lowered “as a mark of respect.”

The decision drew backlash from some residents and political commentators, who accused the county of ignoring the proclamation.

However, responses in comment sections pushed back, arguing that Kirk was not a veteran or elected official and was widely known for spreading hate, making him an inappropriate figure for such an honor.

Bergen County kept its flags at full staff, citing state policy. “Bergen County’s policy is to follow the State of New Jersey’s daily flag status,” officials wrote on Facebook, noting the state order for that day was “full staff.”
