A navy jacket is so versatile and really helps to neutralize a lot of patterns and colours. For example, here I am wearing a white linen shirt with navy stripes, a large scale rep tie, and taupe 4 Ply trousers. It certainly reads “preppy” and quite pattern heavy. But the navy DB jacket really helps ground the pattern and yet to still bring sufficient focus to the patterns. Additionally the taupe trousers helps to create a nice contrast to the navy jacket, making the outfit appear slightly more casual and more visually appealing. This jacket is part of a suit from a MTM @spiermackay suit and what really impresses me is the roped, yet unpadded, shoulder. But more on that soon. A navy jacket is so versatile and really helps to neutralize a lot of patterns and colours. For example, here I am wearing a white linen shirt with navy stripes, a large scale rep tie, and taupe 4 Ply trousers. It certainly reads “preppy” and quite pattern heavy. But the navy DB jacket really helps ground the pattern and yet to still bring sufficient focus to the patterns. Additionally the taupe trousers helps to create a nice contrast to the navy jacket, making the outfit appear slightly more casual and more visually appealing. This might be my boldest suit yet. This double breasted glen check tweed suit is new from @collaro_co. I had this made because I was heavily inspired by Ralph Lauren, where they often feature a glen check suit. Because this is MTM I had the opportunity to increase the jacket’s lapel width, widen the trouser hem and add some interesting details such as a coin pouch and an extended waistband tab. The fit of this suit is relaxed, which is mainly how I approach my tailoring these days. The fabric is so beautiful with a mix of green, brown and red within the checks. That extra tension creates a fabric that is open, structured, and resistant to compression, which means air can move through it and it bounces back from creases rather than holding them. It breathes. It performs. And it looks sharper at the end of a long day than most other fabrics you could reach for. It is genuinely one of the best things you can wear in heat. Here are some popular high twist wools: Fresco III by Huddersfield Fine Worsteds: so well known that high twist wools are often just called “fresco” generically. Slightly scratchy handle, which actually helps with breathability and crease resistance. Fox Air by Fox Brothers specializes in lovely colours, textures and patterns. It’s slightly scratchy but still holds its shape incredibly well. 4-Ply by Vitale Barberis Canonico uses a 4-ply twist construction that makes it airy and crease resistant. Despite its heavier weight, it is extremely breathable and wears cooler than you would expect. This is my favourite high twist (and favourite fabric) of the lot. Tropicalair by Dugdale Brothers was originally developed in the 1960s for the Hong Kong and Singapore market, in response to demand for something linen-like in wool. Finmeresco by Smith Woollens comes in 3-ply and 4-ply constructions rather than the standard 2-ply, adding extra structure. Crispaire by Holland and Sherry is a touch smoother and lighter than most. Explorer by Standeven uses a slightly coarser merino in a panama plain weave, giving it an unusually dry, crisp handle. The sleeper pick of the group. Marling & Evans High Twist is a 3-ply all-wool construction woven in Huddersfield, one of the oldest active weaving mills in Britain with roots going back to 1782.

The jacket is from @spiermackay MTM and it is made from @hardyminnis Mock Leno cloth, which I personally think is THE best Spring Summer jacketing cloth. It holds its shape incredibly well, wrinkle resistant and has a porous weave. The trousers are bespoke by @kayjenjournal in a new cloth (for me) called Airesco by @hollandandsherryapparel. The light blue shirt keeps things fresh and stops the navy from feeling too heavy. The grenadine tie adds texture without competing with the stripe of the suit, and the green in the stripe picks up tonal warmth without being matchy. Black oxfords keep it anchored and clean. If you have been considering a chalkstripe, this is your sign. So impressed with the fit of these @kayjenjournal bespoke trousers made in @dugdalebrosandco English & Town Classics. Matt has been incredibly patient with me as I went through two muslin fitting iterations to achieve this fit. It’s kind of hard to tell but the trousers are cut to accommodate my forward leaning posture and bowed legs, such that the trouser appears flush with no pulling whatsoever. The trouser pleats are full, seats at an approximately 10.5” hem opening and features an aesthetically pleasing “pistol” side tab design. Matt has been incredibly patient with me as I went through two muslin fitting iterations to achieve this fit. It’s kind of hard to tell but the trousers are cut to accommodate my forward leaning posture and bowed legs, such that the trouser appears flush with no pulling whatsoever. The trouser pleats are full, seats at an approximately 10.5” hem opening and features an aesthetically pleasing “pistol” side tab design. A quick shoutout, they do remote bespoke fittings (aka what I did here) and you just need to DM/email @kayjenjournal. Let me know what you think about these fit of these bespoke trousers.

It has a conservative edge that keeps everything feeling considered rather than casual. 4. Charcoal does not get enough credit in summer. Darker and more serious than mid grey, it is the natural choice when you want to dress up without reaching for a full suit. 5. Navy is the one that surprises people. Not as versatile as a navy jacket, but what it does exceptionally well is ground bolder, louder jackets that might otherwise feel like too much. All these trousers were made by @kayjenjournal, a Singaporean based tailor that has been quietly making a name for themselves. I have been commissioning pieces from them since 2021 and though it took a few iterations, the fit and consistency has been exceptional. They temporarily halted the remote bespoke program but, in the meantime, they recently expanded to offer MTO trousers directly through his website. Come and unbox my new @sartoria_raffaniello MTM suit with me! Several things after editing: 1. I didn’t press or steam the suit, I literally just took it out of the box but should do it in the future to get a better representation of what it looks like. 2. I find the jacket length a bit long despite the reduced shorter length, I have to wear it more before determining if I should alter the length even more (yes you can shorten your jackets!) 3. I didn’t press or steam the suit, I literally just took it out of the box but should do it in the future to get a better representation of what it looks like. 2. I find the jacket length a bit long despite the reduced shorter length, I have to wear it more before determining if I should alter the length even more (yes you can shorten your jackets!) 3. I have made a few suits with them at this point so the fit is almost perfect. I opted for an increase gorge height on the lapels and went back to a 10” opening trouser for this one (I felt that the previous 11” were just too wide and unflattering).
