The divisive New Balance loafer. Sneaker? You are either in the “hate it” or “love it” camp, and I personally love it. It’s reminiscent of a loafer (of course) and just provides a sleeker silhouette than the average sneaker without compromising on comfort. The secret to a better fitting trouser is simpler than most people think. Go higher and go fuller. A high waisted trouser sits right at or just below your belly button. That extended rise does three things immediately. It elongates your legs, making you appear taller. It keeps your shirt tucked in throughout the day without any effort. And it creates a more flattering silhouette, especially when worn with a jacket, where the clean line from waist to shoulder is uninterrupted. Most men are wearing their trousers too low and too slim, and those two things together are what make a trouser look and feel off. The fuller leg is the other half of the equation. Not wide, not slim, but a middle ground that drapes cleanly and moves well. Finding that balance comes down to personal preference but there is a simple test I use to check if a trouser is too slim. Lift it up to just below the knee and let go. If it catches your calf on the way down, it is too slim. If it falls and drapes smoothly, you are in the right place. A higher rise with a fuller leg is the combination that has stood the test of time in classic menswear for a reason. It flatters more body types, it wears more comfortably throughout the day, and it simply looks more intentional than a low rise slim leg trouser. Next time you are looking for a new pair, start there.

The navy double breasted suit is one of the great constants in menswear. Navy is the natural home for a double breasted suit for the same reason it works so well across the rest of your wardrobe. It is authoritative without being severe, formal without being unapproachable, and it pairs effortlessly with almost every shirt and tie combination you could reach for. If you are only ever going to own one double breasted suit, navy is where you start. This one is made by @spiermackay in VBC 4-Ply, which is a fabric I have talked about before and will keep talking about because of how well it performs. This 4-Ply holds its shape, drapes incredibly well and is porous enough for the warmer weather. On a double breasted suit especially, where structure and drape are doing a lot of the work, the recovery and weight of a 4-ply is exactly what you want. My favourite thing about this suit is the shoulder. It features an unpadded roped shoulder, a relatively new feature from Spier, which gives it the look of a structured shoulder but the feel of an unpadded one. Let me know what you think about this double breasted navy suit! Yes, you can wear wool in the Summer. You just need to know which wool. High twist wool is the answer. The name comes from how the yarn is made. During spinning, the fibres are twisted together more tightly than in a standard suiting wool. That extra tension creates a fabric that is open, structured, and resistant to compression, which means air can move through it and it bounces back from creases rather than holding them. It breathes. It performs. And it looks sharper at the end of a long day than most other fabrics you could reach for. It is genuinely one of the best things you can wear in heat. Here are some popular high twist wools: Fresco III by Huddersfield Fine Worsteds: so well known that high twist wools are often just called “fresco” generically. Slightly scratchy handle, which actually helps with breathability and crease resistance. Fox Air by Fox Brothers specializes in lovely colours, textures and patterns. It’s slightly scratchy but still holds its shape incredibly well. 4-Ply by Vitale Barberis Canonico uses a 4-ply twist construction that makes it airy and crease resistant. Despite its heavier weight, it is extremely breathable and wears cooler than you would expect. This is my favourite high twist (and favourite fabric) of the lot. Tropicalair by Dugdale Brothers was originally developed in the 1960s for the Hong Kong and Singapore market, in response to demand for something linen-like in wool. Finmeresco by Smith Woollens comes in 3-ply and 4-ply constructions rather than the standard 2-ply, adding extra structure. Crispaire by Holland and Sherry is a touch smoother and lighter than most. Explorer by Standeven uses a slightly coarser merino in a panama plain weave, giving it an unusually dry, crisp handle. The sleeper pick of the group. Marling & Evans High Twist is a 3-ply all-wool construction woven in Huddersfield, one of the oldest active weaving mills in Britain with roots going back to 1782.

Everyone talks about navy. Not enough people talk about charcoal. Navy is the default recommendation for a reason. It is versatile, approachable and works across almost every context. But charcoal does something navy cannot. It has a depth and seriousness to it that feels more formal without tipping into black, and a warmth that makes it significantly more interesting to dress around. Where navy can start to feel predictable, charcoal always feels considered. This suit is made in VBC 4-Ply, a fabric I keep coming back to. It holds its shape, drapes beautifully and is porous enough to perform well even in warmer weather. The light blue shirt softens the formality of the charcoal without losing any of its intention, and the brown suede oxfords are what tie the whole combination together. Suede specifically works better here than a polished leather, it keeps the outfit from reading too stark and adds a warmth that complements the depth of the charcoal beautifully. If you have been sleeping on charcoal, this is your sign to move it up the list. This might be my boldest suit yet. This double breasted glen check tweed suit is new from @collaro_co. I had this made because I was heavily inspired by Ralph Lauren, where they often feature a glen check suit. Because this is MTM I had the opportunity to increase the jacket’s lapel width, widen the trouser hem and add some interesting details such as a coin pouch and an extended waistband tab. The fit of this suit is relaxed, which is mainly how I approach my tailoring these days. The fabric is so beautiful with a mix of green, brown and red within the checks. I am so happy with how this suit turned out. Let me know what you think of the fabric and if you would wear it as a full suit or separates.

Ralph Lauren just reminded the entire fashion world why he has been the standard for over 50 years. For Spring 2027, he returned to Milan for his second major menswear show in six months, presenting Purple Label and Polo Ralph Lauren together in the courtyard of his Milan headquarters. At the centre of the space sat a mahogany speedboat, a nod to the 1920s Italian business magnates who raced their Revos across Lake Como in impeccably tailored clothing. That image of effortless, competitive, cultured masculinity set the entire tone for what followed. Purple Label opened with a masterclass in considered tailoring. Silk-blend suits in sandy neutrals and deep indigos, and utilitarian outerwear that felt more approachable and deliberate. The collection’s single most extraordinary piece was an indigo double-breasted evening jacket hand-stitched with Art Deco motifs from Lauren’s personal neckwear archive, reinterpreted by the Sashiko Gals, a group of retired women in Japan who do the work entirely by hand. Polo came in with a younger, sportier energy but never at the expense of intent. Madras prints with bold colours. Navy double breasted blazers with gold buttons. Glen check jackets with “Go-to-Hell” pants. An orange puffer with camouflage trousers based on something Lauren actually wore in Montauk decades ago. The whole thing felt intentional yet wearable. The neckwear alone deserves its own conversation. Whorled cravats, velvet bows with a Western lean, andscarves tied as a tie. Reviewers are already calling it one of the most compelling arguments for the return of neckwear in recent memory. What makes this show significant is not any single look, but the coherence of a vision built over decades that continues to evolve without ever losing its identity. The last time I was this excited about clothing was Ralph Lauren’s FW’26 show. Ralph Lauren is exceptional at combining the inspiration with aspiration.

My Barbour jacket collection 👇 1) Bedale in a Charcoal Glen Plaid (Size: XL) this is particularly special because I believe it’s a Japan exclusive 2) Northumbria in Sage (Size: 42) I wear this exclusively over tailoring and I love the longer length and the heavier 8oz cotton 3) Barbour Intentional Duke Jacket (Size: 40) it’s a bit tight for me but I love how you can dress up or down this motorcycle jacket Let me know which jacket is your favourite!

Chalkstripe might be the most flattering suit pattern you can own, and here is why. The stripe is softer than a pinstripe, more like a stroke of chalk than a ruled pen. That softness creates a clean, unbroken vertical line from shoulder to shoe that elongates the silhouette in a way few other patterns can match. It is one of those rare details that genuinely flatters most body types regardless of height or build. Navy is the natural home for chalkstripe but it travels well across a surprisingly broad colour range. Charcoal is the classic alternative and arguably the most versatile of the two. Mid grey softens the pattern and gives it a more relaxed, less boardroom feel. Brown and camel chalkstripes are less common but genuinely beautiful if you can find them. Avoid lighter colours like light grey or stone as the pattern tends to lose its definition and impact. This suit is cut in Standeven Explorer, a high twist wool I have covered before. Open weave, crease resistant, genuinely breathable in the heat. One of the most underrated summer suiting fabrics available right now and one of my personal favourites. The outfit came together around a light blue Thomas Mason dress shirt from Proper Cloth, a navy and green stripe grenadine tie from Drake’s, and black oxfords. The light blue shirt keeps things fresh and stops the navy from feeling too heavy. The grenadine tie adds texture without competing with the stripe of the suit, and the green in the stripe picks up tonal warmth without being matchy. Black oxfords keep it anchored and clean. If you have been considering a chalkstripe, this is your sign. Finally got an actual navy blazer (with gold buttons) and pairing it together with a “classical menswear” uniform outfit: an oxford shirt and grey trousers. The jacket is from @spiermackay MTM and it is made from @hardyminnis Mock Leno cloth, which I personally think is THE best Spring Summer jacketing cloth. It holds its shape incredibly well, wrinkle resistant and has a porous weave. The trousers are bespoke by @kayjenjournal in a new cloth (for me) called Airesco by @hollandandsherryapparel. It is 3-Ply and what I really love about it is the texture and melange of colours within the cloth (will be sharing more details about the trousers in a future post) Let me know what you think of this navy blazer and if you would wear one with gold buttons!

Wearing my new Toast Bespoke Navy Blue 4-Ply suit. This is my 2nd suit from Toast Bespoke and we made several adjustments from the first suit that I am ultimately very happy with. The trouser already fit well the first time around so the changes were minimal. Shallower pleats, slightly more room in the hips and seat, while keeping my preferred 10 inch opening width and leg line intact. The jacket changes were more significant. Sleeves shortened slightly, about three quarters of an inch taken off the waist, and most importantly the collar was reduced to eliminate the collar gap from the first fitting. I love this suit for how relaxed, yet smart, the overall silhouette is. The jacket has no front darts, which means not having a seam line across the front of the jacket. To pull off a dartless jacket well, the balance has to be perfect or you lose any suppression at the waistline entirely. I am glad to say that Toast Bespoke got it right. Let me know what you think of this bespoke suit and if you would make any changes to the pattern! If you cannot tell by now, I love a double breasted suit. There is something about the silhouette that a single breasted simply cannot replicate. The wider lapels, the layered front, the presence it brings to a room. Once you go double breasted it is very hard to go back. Here are some of mine, let me know which one is your favourite.

The right trouser colour can make an outfit feel effortless and intentional. Here are my five favourite trouser colours for summer: 1. Mid Grey is the one I always come back to first. If you could only have one trouser in your wardrobe, this would be it. Versatile across every dress code, compatible with almost every colour, and never asks too much of you. 2. Cream is the summer trouser. Nothing injects personality and seasonality into an outfit quite like cream or off-white. It contrasts everything beautifully, works on its own with a simple shirt just as well as it does under a jacket. 3. Taupe sits between brown and grey and that combination gives it a quiet versatility neither colour has on its own. More personality than mid grey, more restraint than a full brown. It has a conservative edge that keeps everything feeling considered rather than casual. 4. Charcoal does not get enough credit in summer. Darker and more serious than mid grey, it is the natural choice when you want to dress up without reaching for a full suit. 5. Navy is the one that surprises people. Not as versatile as a navy jacket, but what it does exceptionally well is ground bolder, louder jackets that might otherwise feel like too much. All these trousers were made by @kayjenjournal, a Singaporean based tailor that has been quietly making a name for themselves. I have been commissioning pieces from them since 2021 and though it took a few iterations, the fit and consistency has been exceptional. They temporarily halted the remote bespoke program but, in the meantime, they recently expanded to offer MTO trousers directly through his website. If you have been looking for a trouser maker worth trusting, go and check him out! In the meantime, let me know which trouser colour is your favourite.

So impressed with the fit of these @kayjenjournal bespoke trousers made in @dugdalebrosandco English & Town Classics. Matt has been incredibly patient with me as I went through two muslin fitting iterations to achieve this fit. It’s kind of hard to tell but the trousers are cut to accommodate my forward leaning posture and bowed legs, such that the trouser appears flush with no pulling whatsoever. The trouser pleats are full, seats at an approximately 10.5” hem opening and features an aesthetically pleasing “pistol” side tab design. A quick shoutout, they do remote bespoke fittings (aka what I did here) and you just need to DM/email @kayjenjournal. Let me know what you think about these fit of these bespoke trousers.

Taupe is the suit colour I keep coming back to. It sits in a space that grey and navy cannot quite occupy. Warmer than grey, softer than camel, and more versatile than either. Most men default to navy or charcoal when building out their wardrobe and while both have their place, taupe offers something neither of them can. It is a colour that works with almost everything above and below it without ever feeling like it is trying too hard. White and black is the combination I keep reaching for with this suit. A white shirt against taupe is cleaner and sharper than a cream, it lets the warmth of the cloth do all the work without adding more warmth on top. The black grenadine tie then anchors the whole look and gives it a formality that you would not expect from a taupe suit. That contrast between the softness of the colour and the sharpness of the black is what makes this combination so interesting. Taupe also has a unique relationship with accessories and shoes. Brown, tan, black and even burgundy all sit naturally against it. It is one of the few suit colours where you genuinely have that much flexibility at the shoe level without the combination ever looking off. This suit is made by @spiermackay in VBC 4-Ply. It holds its shape, drapes beautifully and wears cooler than you would expect. If you have been sleeping on taupe, this is your sign to move it up the list. Suit: Taupe 4-Ply VBC by @spiermackay Shirt: White by @propercloth (use code ZaneL10) Tie: Black Grenadine by @shibumifirenze

New @sartoria_raffaniello order just arrived and I genuinely cannot stop smiling. For those unfamiliar, Sartoria Raffaniello is headed by Noriyuki Higashi, an Osaka based tailor who trained under the legendary Antonio Pascariello in Naples. His work sits firmly in the Neapolitan tradition but with a distinctly Japanese precision and attention to detail. The shape and style of his DB jackets is so distinct and strongly appeals to my taste preferences. There are three pieces in this one: 1. A Loro Piana Summertime suit in taupe, a wool-silk-linen blend that has been on my commission moodboard for a long time. Everything about this suit turned out perfectly and it will be getting its own dedicated video very soon. 2. A charcoal double breasted jacket in VBC 4-Ply. I had the fabric from when I made the trousers, so I decided to make this into a jacket to complete the suit. 3. A washed denim DB jacket that is uncanvassed, MOP buttons and patch pockets. Higashi-San has a RTW collection with very cool and interesting fabrics (like this denim and even a camo). The fabrics are also available via his MTM program. Let me know which piece from this order is your favourite!
