The Supreme Court order on stray dogs in Delhj is not only cruel but also completely devoid of any logic or reason. The issue of management of stray dogs as well as safety of people is definitely a matter of concern. However, it is not something that can be resolved by arbitrary orders passed by the judiciary without any larger consultative process. Also, subjecting defenseless animals to wanton cruelty can never be a solution. We have sufficient laws in the country to deal with the issue of stray dogs and their sterilization as well as population control. And I agree that it is a very important issue where the welfare and safety of common people is concerned. I thankfully got a chance to watch the extremely powerful film “Satluj” on Zee5 over the weekend before the Modi Govt abruptly pulled it down. The film tells the story of human rights crusader Jaswant Singh Khalra who exposed the butchering of innocents that happened in Punjab in the mid-90s. It is a reckoning of a horrible chapter of our history which we have ignored for decades. The film exposes a diabolical era where our institutions failed miserably. The fact that the film has been banned just goes on to show how much our “democracy” has further eroded under the Modi Govt. I have written to Sh Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon’ble Minister for Information Broadcasting and IT expressing my strongest protest against the banning of this important film. I understand this is a futile exercise but history will not forgive us if we choose to remain silent. We owe it to the memory of Jaswant Singh Khalra and the thousands of victims of Punjab whose story is being shamefully buried. It is time that our nation starts having the uncomfortable conversations that are required to acknowledge and confront the dark episodes of our past. @diljitdosanjh @honeytrehan @geetikavidya

As we reckon with chapters of our dark history, it is a matter of SHAME that the crimes of the Butcher of Punjab are still unacknowledged and that he remains decorated with a civilian honor. This is a SITTING BJP MINISTER. This is what minorities in India are subjected to. He couldn’t do this without Modi’s approval. The world should know what’s happening behind our facade of “world’s largest democracy”.
On the right is a used filter from my air purifier. On the left is a new clean one. This is how poisonous the air we’re breathing is. And this isn’t just Delhi. Almost EVERY major city of India is polluted way beyond acceptable health standards. Delhi just helps other cities feel slightly better about themselves. But an AQI of over 80 - regardless of whether it’s 150 or 900 - is TOXIC. China cleaned up its air within a decade. Why aren’t we able to do it? Simple - because our govt doesn’t care. “GDP growth” doesn’t signify a livable country. What matters if the quality of life for its average citizens. We are literally breathing poison in every city of India. We can’t drink water out of the tap like the West. Your tax money is going down the drain. Or is used for installing air purifiers in the homes & offices of the PM & his Ministers so that they don’t breathe the air that you do. Delhi India Air Pollution

This is ironic because: 👉 Modi will soon be going on a 6-day foreign trip to Europe 👉 Just a few hours after this “appeal”, Modi took out a roadshow with his convoy of foreign cars just to wave at people 👉 Modi & his ministers use Air Force planes for travel rather than commercial airlines 👉 Not a single minister or senior IAS/IPS will be taking the metro or public transport to work Question is what prompted this sudden appeal? Are India having a forex or balance of payments crisis? Is the economy in a grave danger that there’s a shortage of edible oil & fertilizer? If yes, why did shameless Modi wait for state elections to get over to announce these measures that sound like an imminent economic emergency? This is very very serious stuff.
