After eight months of late nights and an incredible team effort, our entry into the 2026 Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge is complete! This year’s project began with two of our dealership’s most valued clients. Having restored her husband’s 964 Carrera RS last year, Carey challenged us to enter the competition again and make something deeply personal. She wanted a driver’s car that reflected her own vision while remaining unmistakably Porsche. Inspired by the warmth of a golden sunset, her Pastel Yellow 1997 Porsche 993 Carrera 2 became the canvas. Completely disassembled to a bare shell, the car received extensive chassis restoration, a factory-style steel sunroof delete, genuine 993 RS bodywork and suspension, and a complete rotisserie refinish in its original Pastel Yellow. Nearly 800 genuine Porsche components were restored, refinished, or replaced throughout the build. Inside, Carey helped shape every detail. Channeling Porsche Sonderwunsch and her passion for craftsmanship, the cabin received top-to-bottom leather retrimming and color-matched trim. Countless swatches and meticulous planning went into creating a bespoke 9-color ombré leather weave. To reduce weight while adding practicality, a factory part was 3D-scanned and reengineered to create a lightweight rear-seat delete with integrated storage. Mechanically, the original 3.6-liter flat-six was transformed into a high-compression 4.0-liter with individual throttle bodies and a GT3 plenum, paired with a rebuilt short-ratio RSR-style gearbox and lightweight flywheel. More than a restoration or an RS tribute, this project represents what can happen when passionate clients, an exceptional team, and Porsche heritage come together to create something truly one of one. Last week, we took our 993 RS Tribute out on some local roads for a few beauty shots. Needless to say, golden hour treated us well. The sun setting through the trees complemented the Pastel Yellow exterior beautifully and showcased its fresh coat of paint. We couldn’t be more proud of our entry this year and everything it has become. After the countless hours spent reassembling it to get it where it is today, this car truly deserved its moment in the spotlight. #PorscheChallenge26 #993RS #PorscheClassic
With all the positive feedback we had on the seat pattern design, we wanted to share a bit more of how it was developed. The concept was more than just creating a pattern and applying colors in a certain pattern. Each individual 5mm square in the weave was intentionally placed, matched to a corresponding leather color and called out in a document for the tannery to hand weave the inserts. This allowed the ombre gradient effect to become a reality. The door panels which were a completely different panel and design were more yellow forward due to how they land on the cars "Waterline". The door panels being in a higher position aligned with the more yellow portion of the seat when looked at on a horizontal plane. We wanted to create something that we had not seen before and through the thorough design work from those involved, we were able to achieve this "sunset" look on both the seats and door panels. A fantastic finish doesn’t happen overnight, nor is it achieved by just one person. That’s where the team at Fantastic Finishes came into play. Our #Project993 wasn’t simply painted — it was obsessively refined panel by panel using some of the best products available on the market from BASF Glasurit. Countless hours were spent block sanding every inch of the shell with specialized sanding blocks designed to conform to every curve and contour of the body. This process exposed even the slightest high or low spots, allowing the team to perfect the surface long before any paint was laid down. In restoration, paint only looks as good as the preparation underneath it, and Russ works hand in hand with his team to make sure no detail is overlooked. Every reflection, body line, edge, and contour is carefully checked and rechecked to achieve the level of finish both he and his clients have become known for. The amount of time, precision, and craftsmanship invested into this phase of the restoration is difficult to fully capture in photos alone. What you’re seeing now is the result of countless hours dedicated to chasing perfection before the car ever entered the booth. Not everything needs to be a two-person job... so naturally, we turned it into a three-person job.
