Bill Mazeroski was born on September 5, 1936. Maz is widely regarded as one of the best fielders the game has ever seen, at any position, and has eight Gold Gloves to prove it. He holds the MLB record for most seasons leading the league in double plays, most career double plays turned and most seasons leading the league in assists. He is also one of only eight players in Pirates history with at least 2,000 hits, and was selected to 10 MLB All-Star Games. Maz hit one of the greatest home runs in baseball history. He hit the first walk-off series-ending home run in World Series history in Game 7 of the 1960 World Series. Mazeroski was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Pirates Hall of Fame in 2022. Happy birthday to one of the greatest to ever wear Black & Gold!
