On this day in 2013: After Ryan Dempster intentionally throws at Alex Rodriguez multiple times, A-Rod gets his revenge by mashing a home run to dead center off him.

Hard to not get fired up by Joe Girardi going ballistic on the umps for not tossing Dempster. The Yankees would go on to win on Sunday Night Baseball thanks to Brett Gardner’s go-ahead, bases-clearing triple in the 6th.

@AROD certainly had a flair for the dramatic!

Underrated Yankee moment….

40-year-old Jorge Posada, who was forced to be the emergency catcher that 2011 season, makes his debut and immediately throws out a runner from behind the plate.

Max Fried should have taken a page out of the Mike Mussina playbook in last night’s Yankees - Red Sox Wild Card game.

Back in 2006, Mike Mussina demanded Joe Torre to “stay there,” and remain in the dugout. Thoughts? 👇

This is what happens when a rivalry boils over.

8 years ago today, it all started with one aggressive slide. Tyler Austin comes in hard at second, and Brock Holt takes issue.

Next at-bat, Joe Kelly drills Austin up and in with no hesitation. Austin charges the mound.

Benches clear. Pure mayhem, and the Yankees - Red Sox rivalry lives on.

Fifteen years ago today the Yankees did something no team has ever done in the entire history of baseball, and nobody has done it since.

August 25, 2011. Yankee Stadium. A rain delay of an hour and a half, a last place A’s team that had already taken the first two games of the series, and a Yankees club trailing 7 to 1 and staring down a sweep.

Then the Bronx turned into a fireworks show.

Bottom of the 5th: Robinson Canó steps in against Rich Harden with the bases loaded and puts it in the seats. 7 to 6. Stadium wakes up.

Bottom of the 6th: bases loaded again, and Russell Martin gets Fautino De Los Santos. Yankees take their first lead of the night, 10 to 7. Martin already had a solo homer in this game. He finished 5 for 5 with a double, two homers and six RBI, all career highs.

Bottom of the 8th: bases loaded for the third time. Curtis Granderson, two outs, and he sends it out. History. Three grand slams in one game, the first and only time it has ever happened.

Here is the wild part almost nobody remembers. Granderson was involved in all three. He was standing on base for Canó’s slam, on base again for Martin’s, then hit the record breaker himself.

Final score: Yankees 22, Athletics 9. Twenty one hits. Twenty runs in the last four innings after being down six. And because the lead got so absurd, Jorge Posada talked Joe Girardi into letting him play second base in the 9th for the first time in 20 years. Perfect ending.

Four and a half hours of baseball. One record that has stood for 15 years.

The lowest single season ERA in MLB history on the road..

Cam Schlittler’s road dominance has him on track to join all-time great company.

Good enough for him to take home the AL Cy Young? 👇

-

Yanks back at it in Cali against the Padres tomorrow. Swipe for @kalshi’s pick 📈

9 years ago today, the Yankees officially retired Derek Jeter’s number two and unveiled a plaque in his name in Monument Park.

Budweiser honored Derek Jeter with a tv spot called, “This Bud’s for 2.”

If it’s retired here, it’s retired everywhere. To the Captain that transformed a city, Derek #ThisBudsFor2.

12 years ago, prior to Derek Jeter’s last game at Yankee Stadium, The Captain surprised Yankee fans teaming up with Gatorade for a commercial.

A walk through the Bronx to say goodbye to some of his fans, with Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” serving as the soundtrack.

It’s widely argued as one of the best sports commercials of all time. Agree?
