Have we forgotten that copying without credit is theft?

Let’s talk about it actually:

I wasn’t going to make a post or anything but this happens so often I’m genuinely starting to think people forget the difference between inspiration and plagiarism.

Inspiration is when you take something from a work of art that already exists and create something NEW. Plagiarism is when you take every element of work of art and replicate it then pass it off as your own. One is okay and the other is literal art theft.

Why does this matter?:
This is no different than me going to a museum and tracing a work of art and trying to sell it as an original work. It’s completely unethical and should be called out at every moment you see it happen.

What constitutes inspiration vs plagiarism?
If a work of art has multiple elements to it that make it stand out you should never copy more than 50% of the elements. Styling, composition, lighting, posing, coloring: choose 2-3 at most and then change up the rest. If you’re going for a 1:1 replica to learn and teach yourself then make sure that’s what’s being said and give credit to the original piece you’re replicating.

Don’t be like this guy and double down and claim it’s your “own interpretation” when I can literally overlay the photos on my own and it’s a direct 1:1 replica.

Situations like this genuinely turns me off to the idea of continuing to show my process because there’s always someone who will just copy it 1:1 and tries to pass it off as their own. I’m not huge on gatekeeping but if the alternative is getting my work I’ve tried so hard to make my own straight up getting stolen from me- I’m going to share less and be more hush hush about how I create.

Shame on you myknoir and anyone else who steals from artists

I’ve since been blocked and my comments deleted and I would of left this alone had they apologized and not been so adamant about it being their own idea when it clearly wasn’t but alas that’s not what happened lol

Here’s how I get the best image out of my iPhone:

Step 1: stop using your native camera app it’s not good!

Step 2: download @halideapp (link in bio)

Step 3: switch on process zero

Step 4: enjoy unprocessed and natural looking iPhone photos!

DISCLAIMER: this is an #ad yes, HOWEVER, I’ve been using halide since before they reached out to sponsor some posts. I made a few videos that blew up which led them to reach out and want to collab on some more videos and I genuinely love the product so of course I said yes! I’ve personally recommended this app to all my friends and everyone on any set I’ve been on in the last 6 months. It is NOT free but your support goes to a great indie developer who is a genuine person and not some money hungry corporation 🤝
