I'm heartbroken to hear about Kevin Keegan. Like so many Newcastle fans of my generation, Kevin Keegan gave us hope when we desperately needed it. Watching him help drag the club back from Division Two wasn't just about football. He made us believe again. Meeting him was just as special because he turned out to be exactly the kind of person you hoped he'd be. Warm, generous with his time, and genuinely lovely. He meant so much to so many of us. I’d love to start a new tradition too. A bit like World Book Day, but for disability pride. Imagine kids turning up dressed as their favourite disabled heroes, whether that’s a wheelchair user, a Paralympian, or even a disabled comedian who definitely isn’t in it for the parking. I fell and split my head over the weekend and was left feeling silly and useless. But this isn’t a post for sympathy. It’s a post to say it’s ok to feel like that sometimes. I can't swim, so I'm especially grateful there are still people whose first instinct is to save lives rather than check passports. Every disabled person deserves a way to communicate. It shouldn't depend on luck, fundraising, or whether the NHS can find the right department. Milo is 14, has a rare condition, is non-verbal, and needs 24-hour care. Thanks to eye gaze technology, he's been able to tell his family what he wants and how he feels for the first time. Imagine finally finding your voice, only to be told you're about to lose it. His loan device has to go back in less than two weeks. Because Milo has been out of education for 989 days, he doesn't have access to the speech and language assessment needed for NHS funding, despite videos and data showing he can use the technology. His family now need to raise £10,000 to buy the eye gaze device, software and mounting equipment themselves. That's not how this should work. No child should have to crowdfund a voice.
