Thousands of people have now signed a petition against plans to build a Microsoft Data Centre in Leeds ��️ Campaigners say there are unanswered questions about the development’s environmental risk, its use of water, and impact on local residents. Microsoft says the concerns “don’t reflect the facts”. The tech giant applied for planning permission to build three data centres and a warehouse across 48 acres of land in east Leeds in 2025. The plans were approved by Leeds City Council planners earlier this year subject to Microsoft meeting a number of conditions. A campaign to stop the development has led to 26,000 signatures on an online petition. The ‘No Leeds Datacentre’ group cites water usage, noise and air pollution as potential major issues. It’s also concerned for the local community. Microsoft disputes many of the campaigners’ figures. A spokesperson told us: 🗣️ “We are in contact with the No Leeds Datacentre campaign to discuss their concerns and claims about energy use, carbon emissions and water consumption that do not reflect the facts. Thousands of people have now signed a petition against plans to build a Microsoft Data Centre in Leeds ��️ Campaigners say there are unanswered questions about the development’s environmental risk, its use of water, and impact on local residents. Microsoft says the concerns “don’t reflect the facts”. The tech giant applied for planning permission to build three data centres and a warehouse across 48 acres of land in east Leeds in 2025. The plans were approved by Leeds City Council planners earlier this year subject to Microsoft meeting a number of conditions. A campaign to stop the development has led to 26,000 signatures on an online petition. The ‘No Leeds Datacentre’ group cites water usage, noise and air pollution as potential major issues. It’s also concerned for the local community. Microsoft disputes many of the campaigners’ figures. A spokesperson told us: 🗣️ “We are in contact with the No Leeds Datacentre campaign to discuss their concerns and claims about energy use, carbon emissions and water consumption that do not reflect the facts.
