TAKE NOTE Designing a musical instrument has been a dream of mine for many years. Music has always been one of my greatest sources of inspiration, shaping how I think about mood, emotion, and the experience of space. To bring that dream to life with @edelweisspianos, a world-class seventh-generation family company, feels incredibly special.

I’m honored to introduce TIMBRA, my first piano. A piano carries a rare emotional and spatial presence. It is both instrument and architecture, capable of shaping the atmosphere of a room before a single note is played.

With TIMBRA, I wanted to explore that duality through form. Soft, fluid, and sculptural, its silhouette is informed by cadence, contour, and the movement of sound through space. Handcrafted from layers of birchwood veneer and available in six translucent finishes, each piece reflects an extraordinary attention to materiality, proportion, and craft.

What moves me most is the balance between sensuality and precision, between performance and quiet presence. TIMBRA was designed to be experienced visually, emotionally, and acoustically, an object that brings rhythm, warmth, and beauty into a space.

It has been incredibly meaningful to see this idea take shape, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who helped bring it to life with such care, artistry, and precision. To create something that lives at the intersection of sound, craft, and sculpture has been very special to me. Available now at kellywearstler.com XK

In our latest issue, we talk to @kellywearstler as she teams up with @hmhome, collaborating on a furnishings collection that’s both elegantly crafted and affordably priced.

The collection includes chairs, tables and lamps, as well as a series of tabletop items, ranging from wooden vases to drinking glasses. ‘Every piece had to be modular, but it pushed us to be more creative,’ says Wearstler. ‘I wanted to operate under the ethos of just offering great accessible design.’

1. A moodboard in Wearstler’s LA studio with sketches of her various chairs and ‘Cova’ candleholders for H&M Home
2. Prototypes for the ‘Cova’ tall and short candleholders
3. The ‘Emera’ table lamp comes in a choice of two sizes and two colourways
4 & 5. Wearstler photographed in her LA studio in February with prototypes for her H&M Home collection, including the ‘Curva’ vase, and ‘Soluna Lounge’, ‘Poma Accent’ and ‘Avern’ chairs
6. Wearstler holding prototypes of the tall version of the ‘Cova’ candleholders,
which come in two colourways

IN ROTATION This week I had the honor of sitting down with legendary music producer Rick Rubin for an episode of his podcast Tetragrammaton. I spent the afternoon with Rick at his iconic Shangri-La studio in Malibu, which was really special. Rick has been a huge inspiration to me for a long time.

We talked about different chapters of my life… growing up in South Carolina, my early years in Los Angeles, becoming a mother, and building the studio. Looking back, the one constant has been movement. Following curiosity, trusting instinct, and staying open to what comes next.

The conversation left me reflecting on what’s shaping my creative rhythm right now.

For this month’s HEAT INDEX, I’m sharing what’s on my radar for March. Full story now live on WEARSTLERWORLD.

CREATIVE EXCHANGE The Airbnb experience I hosted at Art Basel in Miami last week was a chance to bring my studio into a new context. I hosted two intimate sessions and we fully recreated my studio environment—large work tables, walls covered floor-to-ceiling with imagery, our studio playlist, even our studio scent from Los Angeles. I wanted it to feel like you’d stepped right into a working day with my team.

The guests arrived to the workshop with everything from a flower shop project in New York, to a fashion designer’s first retail space in Mexico City, to placing a large work of art in a studio space in Miami, to a new weekend house in Montana. From there, I guided everyone in translating that inspiration into physical materials—textures, colors, patterns—culminating in building vibe trays together, our studio process of arranging materials into a visual language for a space.

The vibe trays became these incredibly personal reflections. You could see each person in their work—their taste, their creative voice. Watching everyone collaborate, ask each other for feedback, and share ideas while I worked one-on-one reminded me that the best creative work happens through exchange and trust. The energy in the room was so inspiring.

That dynamic, collaborative spirit is constant in my studio—curiosity, conversation, and shared risk. Seeing it translate so naturally to this group reminded me why these moments of creative exchange matter so much, and it left me deeply inspired. I dove deeper into this experience in this week’s Substack newsletter, WEARSTLERWORLD—link in bio. XK

MY BEAUTY ESSENTIALS This week on my Substack newsletter, WEARSTLERWORLD: a look at what’s been on my vanity lately. I think about skincare and makeup the same way I think about design—editing, intention, and knowing when enough is enough. What does it really take to turn taste into a multi-million dollar business and sustain it for decades?

On this episode of Aspire, @emmagrede sits down with @kellywearstler, one of the world’s most influential designers, to unpack how she built a creative empire that stretches beyond interiors into product, licensing, brand partnerships, hotels, and media all while remaining deeply involved in the work itself.

They talk about what it actually looks like to scale a creative business the right way: why Kelly believes in sequence over speed and the commercial strategy behind turning bold creative ideas into long-term revenue streams. The conversation also goes deeper into leadership and how setting a high personal standard shapes culture.

This is a masterclass in longevity and knowing when to evolve and why hype fades but structure endures.

If you’re building something creative, leading a team, or dreaming about scaling your own vision, this episode will change the way you think about growth.

Presenting AD’s January–February 2026 cover story.

Kelly Wearstler (@kellywearstler) is in a state of flow. In the white cube gallery of collectible design called æquō (@__aequo__) in Mumbai, or in the sun-dappled carpentry workshop of master craftsman Jeevaram Suthar in Alibag, Wearstler, in her cool
inimitable way, pursues the possibilities of artisanal wealth that designers have access to in this country. Based in Los Angeles, California, and an icon of design, particularly in the United States, Wearstler’s first foray into India is the result of a three-way collaboration between æquō; artisans specialising in carpentry, enamel work and metal casting; and her eponymous design practice. The result, titled Lahar, meaning “wave” in Hindi, is a 12-piece collection that includes a console table, a bar cabinet, a low centre table; smaller objects like trays, vases, wall sconces; and a limited-edition set of three burnt teakwood seats.

Both collections were created in partnership with workshops across Mumbai and Alibag that form part of æquō’s rare and entirely unique roster of craftspeople and ateliers across the country—the result of a herculean task of trying to organise one of the largest unorganised sectors in India. With a genuine reverence for craftsmanship, Wearstler repeatedly, and rightly, refers to this as a three-way collaboration—between her studio, the gallery and the artisans, in dialogue—each bringing their own perspective. “The talent and skill these artists have is incredible,” she says. “Even the first samples were unbelievable.” “We refined details, of course, but the execution was exceptional from the very beginning.”

The January–February issue is on stands tomorrow.
