When I think about all the money I spent 😭 Very painful actually! Pretty privilege isn’t coming to save us! Recently I have seen an increase in content directed at women around investing in their beauty or the glow up and while I love the idea of looking and feeling your best - I do feel like we have got to a point where we think being as pretty as possible will guarantee us a better life and that is not necessarily true!! Instead of just thinking about beauty, how about we start investing more time and energy in other more important areas too! Having a career development plan - you need to know where you’re going and how to get there. 2. Getting 1:1 advice from mentors and experts - guidance from people who have been there and done it before is invaluable. 3. Curating a strong personal brand - your resume and LinkedIn say a lot about you - you need to make sure they’re saying the right things. 4. Building a network - access to high paying jobs doesn’t come easy, the more people know about you and your skills, the more likely you’ll be considered for relevant opportunities. I felt isolated and nervous about how I show up to work because I was worried people didn’t ’get me’, in the end this is tiring and impacts my ability to do my job the best of my ability 😥 This is something I think many women in tech deal with and it isn’t fair because there is nothing we can do - all we can ask for is for tech companies to do everything they can to increase diversity and retention so that everyone can have a positive experience at work!
