to every single person at @childrensnebraska that a hand in saving my son’s life, whether you answer the phones, schedule our appointments, or you were in the operating room one year ago today, there aren’t enough words to describe how grateful I am for you. thank you isn’t nearly enough, but for now it will have to do. because a year ago today, I could not have imagined the strong and healthy oliver that’s currently running around me right this very minute, double fisting two graham crackers and bear crawling up the back of the couch just so he can jump off of it. what a difference a year makes. ❤️‍🩹

“everything went well, it’s as if nothing was ever wrong with his heart.” 🫀 • a few weeks ago, Oliver had a diagnostic procedure that told us how his heart—and its very large patch—are doing, as well as exactly where his pressure levels are at regarding his pulmonary hypertension and beyond. There were two outcomes everyone was ready for, and none of them were: “pressures are completely normal, as if nothing was ever wrong.” Four weeks later and we’re still completely in shock. I’m having a hard time believing everything is just…over. No more surgeries or heart caths or meds around the clock? We’re just…done? What do you mean? More than anything, I’m impossibly grateful. I also think I’m finally at the point where my body and brain are ready to process the last year, and sometimes it feels like it’s happening all over again for the first time. I know I’ll have more to say later when I’ve processed it all, but for now: thank you so much for your love and support. 🤍 • (When we got home from the hospital, we had no idea what to do with ourselves so we took shots of tequila in the name of “healthy hearts” and I’m not entirely sure if that’s the most appropriate response but we were in such shock that somehow it made sense at the time.) #VSD #CHD
