Popkins brought in a modern model for team offense: emphasizing bat speed, measured intent, and giving hitters the freedom to compete and own their process. When looking into a hitter's back hip, there are two common swing flaws: - Flaw 1: A poor load into the back hip. The hitter never gets pelvis forward bend. They sit into a squat or stay stacked upright instead of hinging. That hinge is what turns on the posterior chain and clears room for the barrel to rotate through. THE FIX: Step behind drill with the short bat, hitting down-and-in on an open angle breaker. - Flaw 2: Early hip extension. This is a hitter losing their hip hinge as they stride and get into their swing phase. Center of mass shifts towards home plate early and the bat path suffers. THE FIX: Kershaw drill with a short bat, again on the open angle breaker.
