Country of origin and production style will tell you far more about what the rum inside the bottle tastes like. These are some I really enjoy sipping and often give to guests to try to better understand rum. @kohanarum makes fantastic rum made from fresh cane juice in Hawaii, its aromatic, fresh, and vibrant @hampdenestaterum 1753 is a great example of an aged Jamaican rum. You get that signature funk that Jamaican rum is known for, and some lovely warm notes from the barrel @rhumjmusa Terroir Volcanique is an aged rhum agricole from Martinique. Whenever I tell somebody about a rum, they inevitably ask “oh is that a light, dark, or spiced rum?” Color is a pretty terrible way to classify rum, and most spiced rum tastes very little like rum. Country of origin and production style will tell you far more about what the rum inside the bottle tastes like. Harvesting agave is a lot of hard work! The Jimadors are some of the hardest working men in tequila. They get up before dawn to harvest before the day gets too hot. The agaves themselves have leaves (pencas) with very sharp tips and serrated edges and can weigh a tremendous amount. Their tool, the coa is also razor sharp, and must be handled with care and accuracy. It’s important to appreciate all the hard work that goes into making tequila before it ever reaches your glass. I live at sea level and we were over 6000 feet, so I was a touch out of breath lol. I wanted to give it a try just to show how hard this work is. Thank you @sipdonfulano for showing me around Mexico and every step of the tequila making process. #agave #tequila #jimador

The Whirlybird 🦜🌀🍍 For World Cocktail day I wanted to bring you something very tiki (which is on brand for me) but new and novel. To put it briefly, this cocktail is a stirred down version of the jungle bird. This cocktail caught my attention because there’s not many stirred down tiki cocktails. It’s all of the flavors of the original, but in a sophisticated little stirred down package. It drinks like a Negroni in that it’s spirit forward and has a bitter edge, but is far yummier.
