Ella Rubin had her first existential crisis at five years old—in the Museum of Natural History, clutching a stretch penny, contemplating her place in the universe and how little time she had in it. This might explain why Rubin recalls spending most of her teenage years “desperate to be older and to feel like an adult” (and why she says The O.C. is her favorite YA show—which came out when she was a toddler). Now, Rubin is learning to slow down, on screen at least. In Amazon Prime’s hit YA show Sterling Point, she plays Annie Jacobson, a Type A teenager who unravels family secrets on a remote island and, in the process, finally lets herself act her age.
