Oregon and Gonzaga are very similar programs in the respective worlds of College Football and College Basketball.

Both programs have been relevant on the national stage for a significant period of time, but neither has won a national title and they always come up short of the big goal.

Gonzaga lost in the NCAA tournament last night, suffering their second consecutive exit in the Round of 32.

Oregon got annihilated by Indiana in the College Football Playoff semifinals last season, and in 2024 they were a one-and-done with a blowout loss to Ohio State.

Will either program get over the hump and win their sport’s national title in the near future?

100-year-old Indiana fan, Dr. Phyllis Grant, has been a season ticket holder since 1949.

To put into context just how crazy Curt Cignetti’s two years there have been so far, in her 76 years as a season ticket holder Grant has seen:

• Just one 11-win season (last year)

• Just one 10+ win season (last year)

• Three 9+ win seasons (1967, last year, this year)

• Indiana go 8-1 in Big Ten play once (last year)

• Indiana beat a Top 5 team on the road once (this year)

• Indiana beat two Top 10 teams in the same season once (this year)

• Indiana ranked in the AP Top 3 once (this year)

• Indiana ranked in the AP Top 10 in back-to-back seasons once (last year/this year)

• Indiana with multiple first place votes in the AP poll once (this year)

• Indiana start 8-0 three times (1967, last year, this year)

• Indiana start 9-0 twice (last year, this year)

• Indiana beat three opponents by 50+ points in a single season once (this year)

• Indiana score 50+ points five times in a single season once (this year)

James Madison fought until the very end tonight and represented their school well.

Congrats to the Dukes on their greatest season in program history and for making this season (and especially the past few weeks) a ton of fun 🫡

Shane Gillis roasted Shedeur Sanders’ Colorado jersey retirement💀💀

“It’s because he went 13-12 over his career and he almost won the Alamo Bowl. Definitely not nepotism?”

Bro is having the funniest ESPY’s set i’ve seen.

(The Caitlin Clark jokes in this video are hilarious too😭)

Last night, Division III quarterback Kaleb Blaha of Wisconsin-River Falls broke Joe Burrow’s record for the most total yards in a season in NCAA history (across all levels).

The UWRF Falcons won the D3 national title over North Central 24-14 to earn their first D3 natty in school history, and during the game their star QB surpassed Burrow’s 2019 record of 6,039 total yards in a season.

Blaha finishes his 2025 season as a national champion and as the all-time College Football record holder with 6,189 total yards this year.

On this day in 2012, the BCS rankings show revealed that 10-0 Kansas State was #1 and 10-0 Oregon was #2.

The next week, both the #1 Wildcats and the #2 Ducks went down, allowing for Notre Dame and Alabama to eventually make it into the National Championship.

Curt Cignetti was one of the voters in the Coaches Poll this season and this is his final Top 25 ballot 👀

Cig apparently has great respect for 9-4 Iowa, who nearly beat the Hoosiers back in September, and ranked them 11th in his final Top 25.

He also paid close attention to the other games around the country, honoring SMU’s head-to-head win over Arizona, TCU’s head-to-head win over USC, Michigan’s head-to-head win over Washington, among others.

Georgia State QB TJ Finley is entering the transfer portal again, seeking a 7th year of eligibility.

Finley previous played for LSU, Auburn, Texas State, Western Kentucky, and Tulane, and is now looking to transfer to a 7th school.

He was playing at LSU in the COVID season, a year after Burrow was there.

Mr. Worldwide strikes again 😭

Miami OH achieved one of the rarest records possible in College Football last season, going 7-7.

The RedHawks went 1-3 in non-conference play, before rallying to go 6-2 in MAC play and reached the MAC Championship with a 7-5 overall record.

They lost the MAC Championship to WMU, dropping them to 7-6, and then lost the Arizona Bowl to Fresno State, finishing 7-7.

Texas A&M trolling opposing players mid-game last year was crazy 😭

After back-to-back false starts while down 34-7, resulting in a 3rd & 23, a quote from Missouri QB Brady Cook was put on the screen that read, “The noise is actually louder at practice.”

LSU trailed A&M 35-23 late in the 4th quarter, then the Aggies put up a quote from Garrett Nussmeier: “Kyle Field is loud, but it’s not Death Valley.”

Against rival Texas, right before attempting a field goal the Aggies noted on the video board that Longhorns’ kicker Bert Auburn had missed 4 field goals throughout the year. He missed the attempt right afterward.

I don’t think a 5-loss team should ever be in the College Football Playoff.

With that behind said, one thing I keep thinking about is that the committee ranked 8-4 Iowa ahead of James Madison on Tuesday…

Iowa has 4 losses, lost to every ranked team they faced, and their best win is 7-5 Nebraska. The committee deemed that team better than 11-1 JMU just 5 days ago.

Duke is 8-5, but they also just avenged one of those losses (Virginia beat them in the regular season).

Duke has beaten #17 Virginia, Clemson, and Cal. What do those three teams have in common? They all beat Louisville, who JMU lost to by 14.

It took all the way until last Tuesday when JMU was 11-1 for the committee to finally, reluctantly put them in at #25. Why? Because they’re 0-1 against P4 teams with that loss to Louisville.

2-loss Tulane, who lost to UTSA by 22, has been ranked higher than JMU (Tulane has P4 wins over Northwestern & Duke).

2-loss USF, who lost by 37 to Miami, was ranked higher than 1-loss JMU earlier in the year (USF has a P4 win at Florida).

The committee has emphasized those Power 4 wins all year long.

I don’t think Duke should be in and think the bid should go to James Madison, but the “99.9%” number for JMU’s CFP likelihood may not actually be that high, and when you break down how the committee has treated JMU this year, Duke might actually still have a chance.
