#ad 3 dogs + 1 cat + hardwood floors = I mop more than any person should. And I am very particular about what goes on my floors because whatever is on them ends up on my dogs and honestly on me too.
The O-Cedar RinseClean Spin Mop is the one I use downstairs where most of the real damage happens. The two bucket system is the reason. Clean water never touches dirty water, which sounds obvious but I promise you most mops are just moving the same dirty water around your floor the whole time.
I use my own nontoxic floor cleaner in it which I love. No fragrance, no chemicals I can't pronounce, just clean floors.

My game plan for fixing the ponytail baldness I’ve had for years. I chopped my hair into a bob about 3 years ago and had extensions through the whole growout phase. I am soooo close to my natural hair catching up with my extensions so this is my gameplan for pre-wedding hair improvement: @burburcare dermaroller all over scalp, especially around the temples, followed by their Growing Season hair oil. If you have any tricks for this spot, let me know! Code CATHERINE works for 15% off the entire Bur Bur site! #burburpartner

And the industry is still largely self-reporting safety.

In the U.S., the FDA restricts only about 11 cosmetic ingredients, and that number has not meaningfully changed in decades. Meanwhile, the EU bans over 1,300 and continues to update its list as new safety data emerges. The regulatory frameworks are fundamentally different, with the U.S. placing the burden of safety on brands, not pre-market approval.

Over the past decade, many of the biggest safety conversations in beauty have unfolded through litigation, not regulation. Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives became a major issue in salon treatments, particularly highlighted by cases like the Brazilian Blowout lawsuits, where exposure concerns led to legal action and reformulation. Talc has been at the center of ongoing lawsuits tied to contamination concerns and long-term use, most notably involving Johnson & Johnson. More recently, hair relaxer lawsuits have raised questions around prolonged chemical exposure and health outcomes.

This clip is from a 2019 documentary called Toxic Beauty. I love that Rose-Marie Swift, founder of RMS Beauty has been calling this out for years. #cleanbeauty #nontoxicliving #wellness

if you asked me for a red light mask recommendation, the @therabody TheraFace Mask Glo would be it. It meets all the criteria for effective light therapy and is actually proven to do exactly what you want your red-light mask to deliver on! I do it after I wash my face in the evening to help wind down. #therabodypartner @therabodybeauty

💆🏻‍♀️More tips in the caption! Your lymphatic system does not have its own pump. It relies on gentle movement to flow.
That’s why light massage over key lymph “choke points” can help support natural drainage and de-puffing.

Where to focus
Neck, behind the ears, underarms, just below the collarbone, behind the knees, and along the groin line.

How to do it
Use very light pressure, think skin-stretch not deep tissue. Always move strokes toward the nearest lymph basin, never aggressively rub. Slow, rhythmic motions for 30 to 60 seconds per area is enough.

Extra tips
Hydrate before and after, breathe deeply while you massage, and do this before skincare so your products absorb better.

What not to do
Do not press hard, massage swollen or painful areas, or perform lymph massage if you are sick, have an active infection, unexplained swelling, or a diagnosed lymph condition. When in doubt, ask a licensed professional.

Your face will feel lighter, less puffy, and more sculpted when your lymph is flowing the way it’s meant to.

Natural fiber starter pack episode 1! I’m starting with the basics! Comment “basic” and I’ll send you all the links. Personally, if you’re swapping to natural fibers I think the first place you should start are with basics. You wear them for the longest amount of time and they’re on your most sensitive areas. Of course you don’t want to look for just cotton - organic cotton, certifications, low tox dyes are all important. If you can even find undyed I’d opt for those! Hopefully this helps you start swapping to natural fibers and let me know what category you want to see next!

Do you have any of these in your kitchen? Comment “kitchen” and I’ll send you the links to my Nontoxic Kitchen Starter Pack. For christmas this year, my sister asked me to detoxify her kitchen. Obviously I said yes. Considering she’s my sister, I was shocked by how little she clearly has watched and taken the advice from my previous kitchen videos. If you’re just starting out swapping your kitchen items for nontoxic versions, this is a great starter pack. #nontoxicliving #health #nontoxickitchen

🥩Just a fun fact to start your day :) I probably tan about 5 times a year at this point (maybe less). If I do tan I use Elan Pure or Beauty By Earth - they’re by far the cleanest options.

I tried a vibration plate for 30 days and the results kinda shocked me. Your lymph relies on muscle movement and mechanical stimulation to circulate, and whole body vibration has been shown to increase lymph flow, support fluid movement, and reduce swelling in tissues. Comment “link” and I’ll send you my vibration plate!

After a month, I noticed less heaviness in my legs, better post-workout recovery, and a real reduction in morning puffiness. The consistent vibration basically acts as external pumping for the lymph system, similar to rebounding or manual lymphatic massage, just faster and more consistent.

If your lymph tends to get stagnant from stress, travel, sitting, or inflammation, this is one of the simplest science supported tools to put back into your routine.

I updated my natural fibers clothing favorites so sharing one of my favorite videos of the year! Comment “polyester” and I’ll send you my updated list! Brands mentioned in this video:
@aritzia cashmere. In terms of price, thickness, softness, and style their cashmere wins for me. It’s super soft and they use Good Standard Cashmere which most places do not
@everlane white t shirt is something I need 10 of in my closet. Their shoes are a hidden gem imo
@triarchy patiently waiting for the fall collection
@ebay and thrifting for leather and outerwear that won’t break the bank. I can share more places that sell great pieces, but they’re gonna be a little pricier so lmk.

I can’t be the only one thinking this. $300 for a polyester coat is absolutely bananas though like no I will not be partaking in that.
This is just pushing me to shop smaller and find more cool small businesses to support instead.

Did you know? Many foods we eat can accumulate advanced glycation end products (AGEs) — harmful compounds formed when sugars bind to proteins or fats.

🔥 How they’re created: AGEs are especially high when food is cooked at high dry heat (grilling, roasting, frying, baking). Think browned meats, crispy edges, and caramelized foods.

⚠️ Why they’re bad for you: Excess AGEs increase oxidative stress and inflammation, which are linked to aging, diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic conditions.

💧 Why water-based cooking is best: Methods like boiling, steaming, or poaching reduce AGE formation dramatically because water keeps cooking temperatures lower than dry heat. This means fewer harmful compounds — and food that’s gentler on your body.

✨ Takeaway: Next time you cook, swap the frying pan for a steamer or soup pot. Your skin, cells, and long-term health will thank you. #nontoxicliving #wellness #healthyrecipes

My favorite nontoxic items in the kitchen! My main goal is minimal plastic and quality materials for anything touching my food. I didn’t swap all of these things at once, but I’m at a place now where I’ve swapped out most everything for a higher quality, low tox version. The kitchen is always the place I recommend to start when you’re going nontoxic - that and laundry!
All of these pieces are always on thenontoxictea.com under Kitchen as well 🤎

All of my favorite nontoxic basics that I wear pretty much everyday. Comment “basics” and I’ll send you the list on my blog. You can find the other items under the clothing category on there too!

I don’t buy anything polyester anymore but when I first started switching to 100% natural fabrics, I started with the basics. I always say to focus on the clothing that you spend the majority of your day in so that’s underwear loungewear PJs. Then you can go after more occasion clothing and things you wear for a small amount of time. @oddobody @sorted.brand @q.for.quinn @mate_the_label @coucouintimates @adanola @floreflore.world

For the new faces here, hi 👋🏼

I’m Catherine, founder of Shelter Skin

Before Shelter, I was navigating my own health challenges and searching for body care products that were truly nontoxic without sacrificing beauty or experience. I realized there wasn’t much out there that aligned with what I was looking for.

After sharing a few DIY body butter recipe videos on my page, it was my audience that encouraged me to turn the idea into something bigger and begin the journey of building Shelter Skin.

It took us 2 years to formulate, test, and refine before we launched. Now, a year after launching, it’s hard to believe how much we’ve grown. From a single SKU to now multiple scent collections, every milestone has felt surreal.

I’m so grateful that there’s a community that believes in our mission and wants these products just as much as I do. If you’ve been here since ‘operation building a nontoxic and successful skincare company’, you know how far we’ve come in such a short time. THANK YOU for supporting me and Shelter along the way! There’s so much more to come 🤎
