At the very end of a dead-end street in North Bend, WA, a small two-car garage quietly became the birthplace of a Porsche masterpiece. Inside, Martin “Marty” Robb spent 12 years turning a 1977 911 into his own Porsche RSR-inspired 911, built to be a “little over the top” and not limited by a set of rules. A self-taught fabricator, Marty grew his skills to include welding, fabrication, fiberglass, body work, and paint, while his wife Marsha recognized the depth of his vision and chose to help bring it to life, taking on extra work and even tracking down the right shop to build the cage so the project could become what it was meant to be. With a custom roll cage built by Colin Cantrell of @cantrellmotorsports and a Dawe Motorsports built 3.8 engine paired with a lightweight 915 gearbox, Marty turned to Cantrell’s shop for the rest: engine and transmission install, chassis setup, and a full corner balance. This dedicated track car draws a crowd wherever it goes and proves what patience, precision, and obsession can create at the end of a quiet road. Custom-built at the hands of a self-taught guy, confined by no rules, almost entirely in his garage, this Porsche 911 RSR-Tribute was built over a period of 12 years. In North Bend, WA, Martin “Marty” Robb took a 1977 911 and reshaped it into a purpose-built track car with removable fiberglass bodywork, a one-piece liftoff front he bonded from fenders and hood, and a Mexico Blue finish he sprayed himself in a backyard booth built by “me and my buddy Greg.” Marty’s interior looks like a combination of a space shuttle and a surgeon’s operating table. And it’s where you can tell that this is not your typical “ridden hard and put away wet” kind of race car. Marty relates: “aesthetics are very important to me particularly with a race car. It’s the ultimate form of art and, like a painting, both are things that solely exist for our pleasure. I see a race car as a 200 mph Mona Lisa.” Where it mattered, specialists stepped in. Colin Cantrell of @cantrellmotorsports built the roll cage, installed the Dawe Motorsports–rebuilt 3.8 engine, and completed chassis setup and corner balance. At Cantrell, a lightweight, custom race-prepped 915 transmission was assembled. “In July 2014, 14 years after I’d bought the car, we were on track for the first time at Pacific Raceways...
