Slapping this on the grid because it seems to be helping a lot of you to hear that change is coming and “this too shall pass.” Please share with anyone else who is waiting, anxiously, hopefully. (I’m sorry I’m having trouble keeping up with all of your thoughtful replies)

This year, I’m thankful for my Community. For being there through all the chapters of my life, reading every paragraph closely and carefully, and turning the pages together. Rollercoasters are a lot more fun (and a lot less scary!) when you’re riding with friends.

Without a doubt, the best part of Disney is the talent. Every day, I get to work with the best-in-class in Character Art, Design, and Illustration — from Pixar to Princess, Mandalorian to Marvel. During lockdown, my kids were watching the @travisscott concert in Fortnite and were confused as to why Epic drew @thehundreds mascot @adambomb on the character’s bicep. 

“Because,” I explained, “he has one tattooed in real life.”

“What? Why?” the boys wondered aloud.

“I dunno, maybe because he grew up wearing The Hundreds?” I responded defensively.

They were so confused. “No, that can’t be it…”

And that was the moment I realized you’re only as cool as your kids think you are. ☠️

Nouns have it right. People first. Places second. Things last. November 2025
According to the recaps, 2025 was challenging for many of us, and yet, most everyone is forging on with high hopes for the new year. The January resilience never ceases to inspire. No matter how badly we’re beaten, no matter how dark the midnights, we pick our heads up and move forward. 

Whenever I’m discouraged by a setback, I remember how Walt Disney lost his first breakout cartoon star, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, to Universal. That train ride back to California is the part people romanticize, but it wasn’t poetic. A broke creator, a pregnant wife, a collapsing studio. Instead of taking the L, Walt hatched his next hero, the one that would build his castle in the sky: Mickey Mouse. 

Mickey was a means of survival. A defiant act born of necessity, forged in freedom. But that moment didn’t just make a Character. It defined the Creator. 

Like Walt, I believe we are all creative. Creativity isn’t limited to artists, and it’s not bound to the canvas. Any time we paint a better world for ourselves, our brushstrokes transcend the frame. Whenever we revise tomorrow amid today, we run our pen off the page. Art is about making something out of nothing, so if you’re emerging from loss or adversity, there’s no better time to create a new future. It’s 2026. Make your Mickey!

Antonio Pelayo is one of the last of the original Ink and Paint Dept. at Walt Disney Animation. In the 1940s, there were hundreds of women who were tracing the animator’s drawings onto celluloid and painting them for cartoons. 24 cels a second. Over 200,000 to make Snow White come to life. Once the Xerox machine came into play for 101 Dalmatians, Ink and Paint transitioned to a fine art. Today, there are only four Ink and Painters left. This building is now home to Disney+, but this room has been preserved as the oldest department in the company. There’s enough paint in here to last generations, and enough stories to last a lifetime 🎨
