“In times of war and in times of peace, the greatest weapons of all are not the arms you bear, but the arms you link.”

We will remember our heroes of the Far East, and all who sacrificed so much in the Second World War, today and every day.

Thank you, Yavar Abbas, for your kind words acknowledging His Majesty’s work to ensure their efforts are not forgotten.

Max Branning is bursting his way back into Walford as @mrjakewood reprises his legendary role later this autumn.

In another exciting move from EastEnders new Executive Producer, @benwadeydrama, Max’s arrival is guaranteed to cause no end of trouble for the residents of Walford and will put the Brannings back into the heart of The Square, and the drama…

Max first landed on our screens in 2006 and was quickly established for being a self-destructive, serial womaniser, whose behaviour tore apart his family and put Max at the forefront of some of the show’s most iconic storylines. From his long-running affair with daughter-in-law Stacey Slater that was revealed in epic fashion on Christmas Day, his ongoing feud with the Beales and the Mitchell’s, to finding himself as the prime suspect in Lucy Beale’s murder which later saw his character imprisoned, it’s safe to say that Max has more enemies than most…

Max left Walford back in 2021 when his affair with Linda Carter ended after she revealed her true feelings for husband Mick, and his subsequent meddling resulted in brother Jack Branning’s suspension from his job with the police.

With daughter Lauren expected to marry into the Beale’s, tearaway teenage son Oscar back in Walford, Stacey Slater widowed, and a secret daughter with ex-lover Linda yet to be discovered, Max has more than enough unfinished business in Walford awaiting his return…

Max will return briefly later this autumn, with his permanent return scheduled for later in the year.

Following her epic return in tonight’s episode and with more drama expected to continue this week, Zoe Slater is making her way back to Walford later this year as Michelle Ryan reprises the role. Although her character hasn’t been seen on screen for 20 years, Zoe Slater is immortalised in EastEnders’ rich history having been involved in some of the show’s most iconic storylines, including the classic ‘You ain’t my mother’ storyline which is still quoted to this very day. EastEnders is working with advice from the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) on an upcoming storyline where Lauren and Peter’s son is diagnosed as severely sight impaired.

Having struggled to settle baby Jimmy in recent weeks, Lauren becomes concerned by his lack of ability to focus as he struggles to latch during breastfeeding. Determined to follow her mother’s instinct, Lauren takes Jimmy to the hospital for further tests where the doctors confirm that Jimmy is severely sight impaired.

The storyline will follow Lauren and Peter as they attempt to navigate life with a newborn, the symptoms that Lauren picks up on which leads her to seek a diagnosis, and how the diagnosis will impact Jimmy and their family as a whole.

Speaking of the storyline, #EastEnders Executive Producer @chris_clenshaw said: “It was imperative that we worked with RNIB and experts in the field when consulting on Jimmy’s visual impairment storyline to ensure it was portrayed sensitively and accurately. The story will continue to develop over time as we look to focus on how the diagnosis affects Lauren and Peter as parents, their family and later, the effects this will have on Jimmy.”

Louise Gow, RNIB's Head of Eye Health, Optometry and Low Vision, said: “Working with EastEnders on this important storyline involving Lauren, Peter and baby Jimmy has been such a great experience. The team at EastEnders has worked closely with RNIB by listening to our advice and developing a story that authentically captures the experiences of parents of children with visual impairment. While every family’s experience is different, the story demonstrates the emotional impact and challenges of vision impairment. It highlights and raises awareness of the support that is available for people with sight loss – parents, carers, children, and young people.” [image description: Lauren stares directly into the camera looking worried. She’s holding baby Jimmy who looks up to the ceiling dressed in a blue Babygro. Lauren wears a black and white gingham checked shirt and black vest. Her long, dark brown hair sits over her shoulders. This New Year, for the first time in the show’s history, EastEnders is set to air an entire flashforward episode which will offer viewers a unique glimpse into the drama that is set to unfold in 2026 and beyond…

In a 30-minute instalment on New Year’s Day, viewers will follow Max Branning exactly a year on from present day as he finds himself in a situation which will have huge consequences for not only himself, but also his family…

In typical Branning fashion, Max finds himself at the epicentre of the drama, and with multiple situations unfolding at once, it becomes clear that 2026 has many secrets waiting to be discovered, and a whole heap of trouble that would be hard for any one person to talk themselves out of…

Whilst flashing forward to 2027, the episode will provide tantalising clues about what the future holds for Max, and those around him over the course of the year…

@benwadeydrama, #EastEnders Executive Producer said: “For the first time in the show’s history, we’re going to be offering our viewers an entire flashforward episode set on New Year’s Day 2027. 2026 is going to be full of drama in Walford, especially for the Brannings, and the episode is sure to raise plenty of questions on how Max has got himself, and his family, into such predicaments, but all is not what it seems, so stay tuned for 2026 to find out how and why…”

Gemma Bissix is reprising the role of Clare Bates for a short stint this spring as she returns to EastEnders as part of Nigel Bates’ dementia storyline.

Despite being estranged from her stepdad Nigel, Clare returns to Walford when news of his worsening dementia reaches her, but she is shocked when she arrives and is confronted by Nigel’s fragility and the reality of his prognosis.

With emotions at an all-time high, and with old wounds to mend with Nigel’s wife Julie, Clare’s arrival will not be without drama, but it soon becomes apparent that her return is essential for all involved as Nigel’s loved ones collectively decide what is best for Nigel in the next stage of his dementia care.

EastEnders has been working with Dementia UK and experts in the field on Nigel’s storyline to ensure it has been portrayed as sensitively and as accurately as possible.

On reprising the role, actress @gbissix said: “It was a real pleasure to be asked to reprise the role of Clare for Nigel’s storyline. I was hoping to get the call as I think the fans wanted EastEnders to revisit their relationship. Nigel and Clare were a formidable pairing in the 90’s with a very unique stepfather/stepdaughter relationship! It has been so great to reconnect with Paul and Karen after all these years, and it’s crazy how time felt like it had stopped when we did! I grew up on the set of EastEnders and essentially learnt my craft there, so it’s been a real full circle moment! Whilst it will be an emotional reunion, I hope the viewers will be pleased to see Clare and Nigel on screen together once again!”

@benwadeydrama, EastEnders Executive Producer added: “We always knew we wanted to bring Clare Bates back to Walford as we continue Nigel’s storyline, and I’m delighted that Gemma said yes. The stepfather and daughter duo share a complicated history and have been estranged for many years, but it was essential for us to revisit this relationship as Nigel’s dementia progresses and the family start to consider his additional care needs.” #EastEnders #ClareBates

Grant Mitchell is set to make a dramatic return to Walford this spring with Ross Kemp reprising the iconic role for a short stint. Grant was last seen in February 2025, returning briefly to Albert Square for the show’s 40th anniversary due to Nigel’s concerns about Phil’s deteriorating mental health.

This year, Grant is called upon by his estranged son Mark to return to Walford, marking the first time the pair will be reunited since Mark learned the truth about his true parentage. Grants’ arrival on Albert Square also comes amidst the deteriorating health of long time family friend Nigel. While full details of Grant’s comeback remain under wraps, viewers can expect explosive drama.

On his return, actor @rosskemptv said: “I’m truly delighted to be stepping back into Grant Mitchell’s shoes and returning to EastEnders later this year. As well as exploring Grant’s attempts to reconnect with his son Mark, it’s especially an honour to be part of Nigel’s powerful ongoing dementia storyline, which holds deep personal meaning for me due to a close family connection in real life”.

EastEnders Executive Producer, @benwadeydrama added: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Ross back once more to the legendary role of Grant. The Mitchells remain one of EastEnders’ defining dynasties, and we can’t wait to see them reunited again. As always when Grant is around, drama inevitably follows him…”. #EastEnders
