Punch-kun has backup now. 🧡
After going viral for clinging to an IKEA orangutan plush when his mother abandoned him at birth, the baby macaque at Ichikawa City Zoo just got a surprise visit from IKEA Japan.
The company donated more than a dozen stuffed animals including multiple versions of the same DJUNGELSKOG orangutan Punch had bonded with.
Zoo officials said they hope the toys continue to provide emotional comfort as he integrates into the troop.
And in a heartwarming twist, recent videos show Punch beginning to bond with an adult monkey who has started grooming him.

Some New York (and motherhood) stories never leave you.
In 1996, a stray cat later named Scarlett was living with her kittens inside an abandoned garage in Brooklyn when a fire broke out. As firefighters arrived and flames spread, Scarlett ran back into the burning building again and again, carrying each kitten out one by one.
By the time she was done, her eyes were burned shut, her ears and paws badly injured, and most of her fur singed away. Witnesses said she touched each kitten with her nose to make sure they were safe before collapsing unconscious.
Scarlett and her kittens were rushed to North Shore Animal League, where they were treated and eventually adopted. Her story spread around the world, inspiring thousands of letters and leading to the creation of the Scarlett Award for Animal Heroism.
Scarlett spent the rest of her life in Brooklyn and passed away in 2008, but her story is still one of the bravest New York has ever told.

A sweeping study of 4,000+ people across 24 countries, led by researchers at Arizona State University, found women are just as likely, and often more likely, to yell, hit, or gossip about siblings compared to men.
The usual “guys are more aggressive” pattern disappears inside families, with sisters competing just as fiercely (and sometimes harder) for attention and resources.

Reid Wiseman is part of NASA’s Artemis II mission. But he’s explained the hardest part isn’t the flight. It’s what it takes away from his family.
He lost his wife in 2020 and is now raising two daughters on his own, and admitted the mission can feel “selfish” because of the stress it puts on loved ones.

Meet Scout, 6 pounds of fluff and pure chaos.
When a black bear strolled into his West Vancouver home, checked out the TV, and started eating his breakfast, Scout charged from the other room barking until the bear bolted.
Owner (and fantastic artist) @kaylakleine says Scout is “super cuddly” but “really feisty and protective”, and while she’ll be keeping the door shut from now on, she’s proud her little guard dog stood his ground.

People really are nicer when Batman shows up.
A new study out of Milan tested the “Batman Effect” by having a pregnant woman board a crowded train, then repeating the experiment with a guy in a full Batman suit entering from another door.
Offers to give up a seat jumped from 37% to 67% when Batman was present. Even wilder, nearly half of the helpers said they never noticed him at all, meaning the simple disruption of seeing something unexpected was enough to snap people out of autopilot and boost kindness.
Researchers say this could shape everything from public art to social campaigns aimed at nudging people toward more prosocial behavior.

Of course he still sounds smooth as butter.
Netflix shared a blooper reel from its new documentary Dinosaurs, showing the legendary narrator flubbing lines, struggling with dinosaur names, and casually dropping a few F-bombs during recording.
At one point he pauses and says:
“I am Morgan… sorry… let me do it again… I am Morgan f**king Freeman.”
The clip quickly went viral, proving even the “voice of God” needs a few takes sometimes.
Dinosaurs premiered March 6 and all four episodes are now streaming on Netflix.

Well here come the tears 😭
Punch-kun, a six-month-old macaque at Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan, was abandoned by his mother shortly after he was born in July 2025.
Like most baby macaques, he should have been clinging to his mom from day one. Instead, caretakers had to hand-raise him and slowly introduce him to other monkeys.
When he struggled to integrate with the group, zookeepers gave him an oversized stuffed orangutan for comfort.
He hasn’t let go since.
He drags it around his enclosure. Eats beside it. Curls up with it to sleep. Guards it like it’s the most important thing in his world.
Photos went viral and now huge crowds are lining up outside the zoo just to see him and his plush “mom,” with staff even apologizing for entrance delays because turnout has been so overwhelming.

A University of Wisconsin–Madison study found that simply hearing your mom’s voice on the phone can lower stress and release oxytocin, the same bonding hormone triggered by a hug.
Researchers tested girls after stressful tasks and discovered that calls with mom soothed them just as much as being comforted in person. Texting, though? No effect at all.

Imagine growing older surrounded by the gals.
That’s exactly what 26 women in North London set out to create.
After spending nearly two decades turning the idea into reality, they built a co-housing community where women aged 58 to 94 live independently in their own apartments while sharing gardens, meals, movie nights, exercise classes, and a strong sense of community.
The space officially launched in 2018, but the goal was not to create a retirement home.
Instead, they wanted to create a place where friendship, connection, and independence could coexist.
Sounds pretty dreamy.
In a world where loneliness is becoming increasingly common, it’s easy to see why so many people are calling this the future of aging.
