I've argued a million times over not to use the cash out button, but this may be one time I would advocate for it. Might be a book or two who would let you have enough casino credit to hedge but you've only had 48 hours to figure that out. $2,500 to $600K is live changing money for most.

Why is gambling twitter freaking out? Only 1% of sports gamblers are profitable. Does everyone on here think they are part of the chosen few?

I’m not defending this bill. I do however, think the trust fund “sports bettors” have sensationalized and turned it into a bigger deal than it really is for a vast majority of people it will never affect.

This graphic has been sent to me several times. There is a major assumption here.

1. That professional gamblers actually claim all their winnings (they don’t).

Bottom line is: I don’t agree with the law (as with most of them), but in a practical sense, this means almost nothing for the average Joe. And if it does, you shouldn’t be gambling. Here’s why ⬇️

From a tax perspective:

Losses are an itemized deduction, so let’s assume you have no property tax, no mortgage, and don’t donate to charity. You’d need more than $15k as a single filer or $30k as joint to even take said losses otherwise it’s standard deduction.
