This is one of the most disappointing rabbit holes I’ve gone down with our food… Kerrygold’s “Pure Irish Butter from Grass-Fed Cows” is also fed GMO corn and soy and has tested for forever chemicals. Kerrygold cows receive approximately 90-95% of their diet from grass But the remaining 5-10% supplementary feed that includes some GMO-containing ingredients. They estimate that approximately 3% of a cow's total typical annual diet may be from GM sources, but we have no idea what the exact percentages are. It’s not just the feed: PFAS, also known as forever chemicals, were found in their packaging by independent lab tests in 2023 leading to major recalls. This is America’s #2 biggest butter (trailing only Land O'Lakes). Owned by an Irish company. That fundamentally weakens the local American food system. We are dealing with two systems here: 1) The industrial food complex led to maximize profits 2) Local producers who also run a business but produce food without shortcuts Kerrygold typically costs 30-50% more than conventional butter. And while is better than conventional brands like Land O’Lakes… 1) Funnels money away from American Farmers 2) Follows a pattern of exorbitant premiums for greenwashed claims like “Pure Irish Butter from Grass-Fed Cows” We need to be supporting local American farmers and truly 100% Grass-Fed and Finished Butter.

Imagine how much propaganda it took to convince us we should be paying top dollar for greenwashed marketing. Videos have resurfaced showing Vital Farms conditions and it’s not looking good. You can see just a few chickens outside… But wait what’s that in the back? A massive factory farm. 30,000 sq ft, meaning there could be ~20,000-30,000 birds in there as Vital typically gives Chicken access to 1-1.5 sq ft indoors. These chickens have “ACCESS” to outdoors…but for some reason are never outside? The Vital Files were pulled from farms with 60-70° F - perfect weather for the birds to be outside. So where are the chickens? Why are they not actually on pasture? Vital has even admitted that up to 90% of hens are housed in barns indoors. Yet Vital Farms even labels these farms as “Pasture-Raised” because they technically have access to pasture. And consumers buy them for sometimes $10+/dz. Local, regenerative, mobile coops, daily rotations is the way forward. NOT greenwashed eggs from Private Equity sold for major premiums.

When you look at industrially farmed grocery store beef that is often grain-fed, the difference is striking between grass-fed, grass-finished, regeneratively raised beef from your local farmers.

This is the first time in human history corporations are selling you chocolate that legally can no longer be called chocolate. To classify a product as “chocolate,” the UK requires at least 20% cocoa. Many popular brands have quietly change their labels to "chocolate flavour coating”: - Nestle: Toffee Crisp, Blue Riband, and KitKat - Pladis: Penguin and Club biscuits, White Chocolate Digestives With cocoa prices shooting up 250% over just three years, big food has quietly reformulated to more vegetable oils, sugars, and fillers. Major brands like Hershey, Mondelēz, and Barry Callebaut are all also cutting back cocoa usage. The U.S. has a 12% standard instead of 20%, so Nestle is still able to call it “chocolate” here but has to be "chocolate flavour coating” in the UK. It seems with skyrocketing cocoa prices, there’s two options: 1. corporations continue to swap real ingredients for fillers to keep prices the same 2. cocoa content stays the same and prices get pushed to the consumer Watch out for this in your favorite brands and expect to pay a little more for properly sourced and formulated products.

This is what happens when you fight back against the system and the system bites back. Santa Carota Beef went viral for their new method of finishing beef on carrots…a sustainable alternative to conventional feedlots. They go through 1 Million Pounds per day yet remarkably their testing revealed none of that is metabolized into sugar as Cows are ruminant animals with multi-chambered stomachs. Customers love the taste and Santa Carota sells it at a premium - because it is. But that all came crashing down when the industrial food system ruined it. Listen to the founder Justin Pettit: ”We caught a large meat processor mixing foreign beef with ours and essentially burned us for millions of dollars” ”We’ve opened up a lawsuit about a year ago, we’ve tried mediation, they have no intentions of settling and only want to just to put us out of business The food system is overrun by consolidation, especially prevalent in the beef industry where just the big 4 control nearly 85% of the market. If you want to help go support Santa Carota Beef directly, especially if you are in the area. This is your friendly reminder to buy from your local cattle ranchers that are innovating with sustainability.

For all of human history the land around a home was used to grow food. That was until manicured grass (”lawns”) became a display of wealth. Why this becomes a problem: maintaining a lawn required enormous labor and generates zero food. A lawn is a way of saying, "I'm so wealthy I can waste productive land on decoration." The first push mower in 1870 transformed what had been an aristocratic luxury into the expectation that every homeowner should maintain a trimmed grass yard. And we haven’t really looked back despite this making zero sense compared to actually having self-sufficient food supplies. The real flex is using your land to have a garden, fruit trees, chicken coop, etc… Grow as much of your food on your own. Buy what you can’t grow from small farmers. Fill in the rest with the grocery store.

The company started as a single Austin pasture with 20 hens, selling expensive truly pasture-raised eggs directly to local buyers. But everything changed in 2020 when the company went public. Today some of Vital Farms major shareholders are the likes of BlackRock, Vanguard, and Amazon. Where the noble mission of farm to table eggs turns into a profit equation. VF today? - Fed on corn and soy: cheap inputs - Yolks artificially colored darker - Pasture-Raised yes…but not necessarily regenerative/rotated to fresh pastures Are these better than most grocery store eggs? Yes. But the problem comes when consumers pay a premium for something you can’t back up: - cutesy packaging - darker yolks presented to be higher quality - bold marketing claims like “BS Free” Then when lab results come through…it tells a different story. VF a $1B+ company calls me a BS influencer for calling them out with facts yet can’t explain why consumers are concerned. This problem goes so much deeper than Vital Farms: it is the industrial food complex of Big Ag that subsidizes production of corn and soy + PE that optimizes for profits above all. My suggestion for us as consumers: get closer to the source. Ask about feeds, pasture rotation, etc…

Imported Industrial produce is wreaking havoc on America:
This new method for raising beef might just change the game. Santa Carota Beef keeps cattle on grass but finishes them in a puzzling way: on carrots?? They go through 1 Million Pounds per day yet remarkably their testing revealed none of that is metabolized into sugar as Cows are ruminant animals with multi-chambered stomachs. The ranch scaled this up so fast because customers report a remarkable taste and flavor. And most importantly it’s a sustainable alternative to the standard grain-finishing that fattens cows up in feedlots. Another operation called Pontius Ranches does something similar with using Juice Pulp that normally would have gone to waste. Why this is so important? Estimates show ~30% of the Global Food Supply goes to waste. In the US that is closer to 40%. The more centralized and industrial the supply, the more waste. By localizing the food system for regional communities, sustainability reduces waste. These ranches source their finishing materials from other farms in the area, making the whole thing operate as a synergistic ecosystem. Find a local cattle rancher near you and uplift your community. This is the way food was meant to be.

A Michigan Town with less than 3000 people is going to head to head with an Open AI-Oracle $16B Data Center… In September, the Saline Township board voted 4–1 to deny the project, and the planning commission had already recommended against it. Saline Township got sued by the developer within a day of the denial. They have an annual budget of around $1 million, so it could not realistically afford a long court battle against a multibillion‑dollar developer. They were forced to settle due to the sheer size of the battle and by November the bulldozers were rolling. And just last month the project secured $16B in financing to feed some of the biggest tech giants in the World. That means a a quiet agricultural community has officially lost 250 acres of farmland. This is a side of the food system that is not pretty right now… The AI revolution requires hyperscale data centers that drain community resources and take up valuable land that could be used for food production. Regenerating the land requires resources as well but sites like this one in Saline sold at roughly 5-7x the fair market value it would as regular farmland. The implications of what is happening to America are devastating: prime agricultural land is being permanently converted to AI data centers. If you want to fight back 1. Buy local 2. Show your local politicians you care

Have you noticed restaurants are starting to taste…the same? ”Trapped into eating the same mediocre food from New York to Alaska…who’s behind it??” - More Perfect Union The answer: Sysco With restaurant traffic declining, cost-cutting becomes the logical next step. Distributers like Sysco are the perfect ones to do it. Especially because they have sourced from suppliers accused of forced & slave labor in seafood processing across third world countries. They have become too big to fail: serving 730,000 locations and raking in $80 Billion a year. Craziest part? Sysco tried to acquire US Foods, the second biggest distributor in the World. While this was blocked by the FTC, the implications would have been a devastating control of 75% of the national market for one-stop foodservice distributors. Peel it back another layer: who owns Sysco? Institutional investors BlackRock, Vanguard, State Street. This is what happens when essential food infrastructure is financialized and consolidated. We get homogenized food that loses what makes it special. We need to rely on our local communities to preserve historic flavor instead.

Waking up is realizing Trader Joe’s is really just an Ultra-Processed Foods store. This is a great reminder now especially since TJ’s just recalled 37 MILLION POUNDS of their private label Asian frozen meals for glass contamination. Their “in-house” fried rice’s and other dishes are really made by Japanese food giant Ajinomoto Co. Trader Joe's requires its name-brand suppliers not to publicize the business relationship, creating an illusion of artisanal or unique sourcing. But recalls like this have shown us they are often just Big Food products packaged in their marketing… • Pita chips → Stacy’s (PepsiCo/Frito‑Lay) • Smoothies → Naked Juice (PepsiCo) • Yogurt → Stonyfield (Danone) • Cookies → Tate’s Bake Shop • Nuts → Wonderful Pistachios It’s what many see as illusion of choice destroying the trust of consumers. It’s the very reason shopping at local farms will be widely perceived as far superior to grocery stores. Know who you are buying your food from!

This is the first time in human history bananas are shipped across the World, pumped with ethylene gas, labeled organic, and people are actually buying it. Effectively 100% of bananas at the grocery store - harvested pre-ripe (green) in tropical climates - shipped under cold conditions so they cannot ripen naturally in transit - pumped with ethylene gas in a temperature controlled room 99% of exported bananas are a single variety: the Cavendish. This is the deeper issue with the industrialized monoculture system. The Cavendish was selected not for superior taste but for disease resistance and logistics: it could stay green for weeks after harvest (ideal for long shipments), had high yields, and "looked good in stores” This is the problem with the organic label: consumers pay premium prices for "organic" bananas while remaining unaware that these fruits undergo the same artificial gas-ripening process as conventional bananas. Modern day banana production is a completely industrial, unnatural process that breaks circadian biology. Shifting to local and seasonal fruits supports our domestic food system and aligns with ancestral health.

There's a 97% chance your chicken is being dunked in a chlorine bath, even if it is certified organic. The USDA requires some level of sanitation, which makes sense. However, air-chilled is a much better option as your chicken is not being bathed in chlorine. This method is banned in the European Union. Testing just revealed the healthy bread darling Organic Dave’s Killer Bread tested for detectable levels of Glyphosate. Follow the money… Dave’s was acquired by Flowers Foods in 2015 for $275M. They don’t just own premium organic brands like Dave’s but also: - Nature's Own (tested at 132-190 ppb glyphosate) - Wonder Bread (tested at 173 ppb glyphosate) - Simple Mills (acquired January 2025 for $795 million) Think about that for a second: The same corporation that produces Wonder Bread (one of the most processed, conventional breads on the market that tested high for glyphosate) also owns the "cleanest bread label on bread shelves" Industry articles show the original Oregon bakery started with a more manual, rack‑oven process and that, since the acquisition, Flowers has “upgraded” that bakery with more automation in moulding and panning. The original founder, Dave Dahl, has not been with the company for 10 years yet his caricature is plastered over all the packaging. This isn’t a Dave’s problem, it’s a systemic industrial food issue. Buy LOCAL Baked Goods.
