A beautiful thing about train travel is how often the journey itself can be as rewarding as the destination, @ricksteveseurope says. That’s particularly true in Europe, where travelers can enjoy special trains (as well as some special buses and boats) along routes designed to maximize views of spectacular scenery. These journeys through Norway, Switzerland and Germany are as rewarding as the destination. Rick Steves writes European guidebooks, hosts travel shows on public TV and radio, and organizes European tours. Two of the most powerful names in music and sports — Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce — are getting married. And so, here comes the bride — and the attorneys. As Nancy Chemtob, a New York-based divorce lawyer who represented both Bobby Flay and Mary-Kate Olsen, says, “It would be nonsensical for them not to have a prenuptial agreement.” Swift’s net worth, according to estimates by Forbes, is $2.1 billion. This makes her the first musician to become a billionaire from songs and performances. Her fortune spans $800 million in royalties and touring, a music catalog worth $600 million and $110 million in real estate. Kelce’s net worth, on the other hand, is estimated at $90 million, including his salary on the Kansas City Chiefs and a podcast deal with Amazon. Attorneys who represent celebrity and high-net-worth clients weigh in on how the billionaire singer and millionaire football star divide their assets. Happy birthday, Punch! The monkey was abandoned by his mother after his birth a year ago, presumably because of exhaustion. Zookeepers nursed him and gave him the toy to develop his gripping ability, something newborn macaques need to survive. Many people with Parkinson’s and their loved ones say that communication challenges brought on by the disease is one of the hardest parts of living with it. When Neal Tomita was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at 55, he and his wife Cheryl Lippman tried everything to combat his symptoms and delay the progression of the disease. About two years ago, Tomita and Lippman together picked up an unexpected hobby that they say has helped him get his voice back: playing the harmonica. If you’ve spent any time with dogs, it’s probably not news to you that they can sense the difference between positive and negative human emotions. A pup may match your excited energy when it’s time for a walk or check on you if you appear glum. But canine brains might have a deeper understanding of human emotions than you might think, a new study suggests. More from The Washington Post at the link in our bio. #dogs#pets#MentalHealth

As Patrick LaRochelle waits in a specialized hospital room in Prague to see whether he has Ebola, his former colleagues in Congo are beginning to pass away from the disease. LaRochelle’s comments, the first he’s made to a reporter since his evacuation, come as medical and aid workers in Congo are struggling to respond to an Ebola outbreak that is already linked to over 1,000 cases. He and his wife, a nurse practitioner, consider their work a calling. He was working for Serge Global Inc., the missionary nonprofit, before he was exposed. If given the chance, LaRochelle said he’d like to go back. He knows, however, this outbreak could be protracted. What is going on in the sewers of New York City? It's a question locals and officials are trying to answer as people have been seen popping in and out of the ground. Williamsburg resident Anthony Purdie said he isn’t convinced it's simple curiosity drawing people to explore the sewers at night. “They look like they were looking for something important, like money, or for doing some type of hurting,” he said. “Ain’t no fun and games. I mean, seven grown adults going down there? Got to be something, man.” Read more from The Washington Post at the link in our bio. ##news #nyc #newyork #newyorkcity #crime

Post reporters identified seven locations at the Lincoln Memorial’s Reflecting Pool where the lining — a waterproof membrane that was painted onto the concrete basin — had partially or entirely peeled away. The peeling occurred in irregularly shaped patches that stretched alongside the long edges of the pool. The pieces ranged in size from a few inches to as long as six feet. In one case, the concrete was visible underneath. By comparing the seven locations with satellite imagery, photos and videos taken during the renovation process, the analysis found that all of the failures occurred at the seams — lines between two areas that were painted at different times. Four experts in waterproofing materials reviewed The Post’s findings and said the failure pattern strongly suggested errors in the application process. When The Post shared its findings with the White House and the Interior Department, spokespeople disputed that the surface had been improperly applied. “There were no missteps during the initial repairs to the pool,” said White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers. Officials provided no evidence to support the administration’s assertion that the pool was vandalized. Atlantic Industrial Coatings, the contractor responsible for the project, and Mid-America Industrial Coatings, the subcontractor whose crews helped line the basin, did not respond to questions from The Post. Rhino Linings, which made the two products that coated the pool, also did not respond. Read more from The Washington Post by tapping the link in our bio. #dc #washingtondc #reflectingpool #trump

The best show on TV right now is Reflecting Pool, The Post’s Monica Hesse writes. Here’s a recap of what’s happened so far this season: In April, Trump announced plans to refurbish the National Mall’s historic Reflecting Pool in time for the country’s 250th anniversary, saying that under the watch of previous presidents it had become “filthy.” He awarded a no-bid contract to a company that had worked on his own swimming pools and spent several weeks bragging that the finished product would last for decades: “If you had a knife, you can’t even cut it.” Days after the renovations were completed, the pool began blooming with algae in mid-June. Interior Department workers commenced dumping gallons of hydrogen peroxide into the water. The following week, chunks of the Reflecting Pool’s new sealant started peeling off and floating to the surface. Ducks were found dead in and around the pool. Trump began blaming vandals, saying the pool had been cut with “a knife of some kind.” Read more from The Washington Post at the link in our bio. #reflectionpool #washingtondc #dc #trump #opinion

When 8-year-old Madeline heard her neighbor, Ethan, playing guitar outside, she sent over a paper airplane with a handwritten request for him to play a song by Taylor Swift. She didn't expect that the moment would catch the attention of the pop superstar. “One of my favorite parts of this story is that we didn’t actually know our neighbor. He had moved in before winter, and we never properly introduced ourselves,” said Natalie Hulec, Madeline's mom. “We also had no idea he was a full-time musician. Watching people celebrate not only his kindness but also discover his incredible talent was such an unexpected bonus.” More from The Washington Post at the link in our bio. #taylorswift #hopecore #music
