My husband picked the sweetest little bakery for our Saturday morning treat: Mitten Sweets & Coffee in the First Hill neighborhood of Seattle. @MittenSweetsandCoffee makes French and Japanese pastries plus coffee drinks. There were cakes, tarts, cookies, and pies here in flavors that were new to us. Everything looked so delicious that we had a hard time choosing what to order, but we decided on: 🔸 Kobocha Mont Blanc pie (very light and earthy; great crust) 🔸 Kyoto Matcha Cake (light with good matcha flavor) 🔸 Ube Tart (more dessert-like, but not too sweet) We didn’t try coffee on this first visit, but we’re planning a second visit to try more pastries and coffee. This little bakery is a neighborhood gem and I’m glad we found it! They also take advance orders for whole cakes and tarts. Believe it or not, Seattle does have a few breakfast diners. One of them is Hudson in SoDo. I went there for lunch a while back with friends enjoyed hearty breakfast foods. In addition to having one of the coolest bar counters in Seattle, Hudson serves large portions at affordable prices. I ordered the cheesy shrimp and grits ($19.75 at the time) and had enough left over for dinner. My friends ordered breakfast burritos and chicken fried steak with home fries and a fried egg. This pub serves all-day breakfast until 3pm and also serves sandwiches, soups, salads, and drinks. Note that this restaurant is 21+. It was a chilly and rainy Seattle day, and the food warmed us up and felt comforting. I don’t feel that people appreciate SoDo enough for its restaurants. Hudson is one of the local neighborhood favorites. Believe it or not, Seattle does have a few breakfast diners. One of them is Hudson in SoDo. I went there for lunch a while back with friends enjoyed hearty breakfast foods. In addition to having one of the coolest bar counters in Seattle, Hudson serves large portions at affordable prices. This menu took me back to 1976! On Friday, Oliver’s inside the Mayflower Park Hotel held a party for the lounge’s 50th birthday. 🎉 They brought back 1976 pricing (hello, $8 crab cakes!) and classic ‘70s drinks for the evening. For our Seattle Restaurant Week dinner, my husband and I visited Plenty of Clouds in Capitol Hill. Plenty of Clouds had been on our list to try for a while since we enjoy Sichuan food, and we loved our meal. They’re offering a $35 per person Seattle Restaurant Week menu that includes an appetizer, entree, and drink or dessert. We opted for non-alcoholic drinks since we knew we couldn’t fit dessert after all the food. I’d pick dessert next time, though. We had: - Pork dumplings - delicious with mild heat. No notes! - Cucumber salad - Fresh with peanuts & mild chili crisp heat - Burning noodles - not as hot as we expected, but great flavor and numbing sensation from the Sichuan peppercorn - Shrimp fried rice - one of the better fried rice dishes I’ve had in Seattle.
