If love could have saved him, he would have lived forever🖤
We said goodbye to sweet Buster on June 12th. His numbers had completely tanked and he let us know it was time. Our incredible vet and vet tech came to our house, so he could pass in the comfort of his home with Weller and Annie close by. He passed very peacefully in our arms as we told him how much we loved him. I made a promise to Buster the morning I adopted him from @Tusc. Co. Humane Society. I promised him that for the rest of his life, however long it may be, he would only know unconditional love, comfort, care, and joy. And for 27 unforgettable days, that promise was kept. He may have come in to our lives on borrowed time, but he brought with him a heart full of love and a spirit that refused to be defined by his past or prognosis. He soaked up every wonderful moment we had together and did so with the happiest smile on his face and tail that was always wagging. Buster spent his final chapter surrounded by deep, unconditional love from my mom and me, from all of those lucky enough to meet him, and from so many of you who followed his journey on social media. I know he felt all the love and he happily gave it right back. His love and gratitude was evident in every sweet look with his beautiful, cloudy eyes, every gentle nuzzle, and every happy tail wag. If love could have saved him, he would have lived forever. And in some ways, he will— because a love like Buster’s leaves a mark that never fades🖤 I love you, sweet boy, and I feel so lucky I got to experience your love. Though it’s truly unfair our time together was far too short, I wouldn’t trade a single moment I had with you. I’d choose you every time, even knowing the heartbreak of having to say goodbye to you less than one month after meeting you. I know you had quite the welcoming crew at the rainbow bridge. Say hi to the girls for me 💜🌈 _________ I still have 2 more bucket list videos that I haven’t gotten the chance to post on here yet. I plan to still post them, because Buster had such a great time both of those days. #rescuedog #bustersbucketlist #hospicedog #seniordog

just ignore that I look like a hot mess express… this was just too important not to share immediately. Meet our new fosters! They won’t be here long, so I’m getting all the puppy cuddles while I can before they are adopted.

Buster is refusing to eat any dog food right now, so I figured this was a great item on Buster’s Bucket List to check off first. Nothing like eating a $2 frozen burrito for dinner while your dog enjoys a full “surf and turf” meal😂 Buster has done really well the past two days. He’s been eating steak, mahi mahi, salmon, pork chops, lean ground beef, and scrambled eggs. He also loves goldfish crackers 😆 For those that don’t know his story, Buster is an 11.5 year old hospice bernese mountain dog that I adopted from @Tusc. Co. Humane Society last weekend. Buster has lived a very hard life and has never been cared for like he deserved💔 I took him in to my incredible vet, @Snodgrass Vet and we did bloodwork, xrays, and an ultrasound to see where we were at health wise. We found that Buster has tumors on his heart and spleen, most likely hemangiosarcoma, and he was severely anemic as a result. This type of cancer is highly malignant and aggressive. Buster received a blood transfusion and was hooked up to fluids most of the day before coming home. Buster doesn’t have much time left, but rather than counting down the days, we are trying to make every day count. Buster deserves to know what the good life is all about, so we are going to make the most of whatever time we are blessed with. Be sure to follow us if you want to watch this sweet old man finally experience the love and care he’s always deserved in his final chapter ❤️ #bernesemountaindog #rescuedog

Replying to @Kiwi 🥝 A few days before we had to say goodbye to Buster, he got to have another big bucket list day! He had the absolute best day relaxing in his ice pool, sipping on his bone broth pup-a-rita, and enjoying all of his favorite treats on his barkcuterie board ☀️ sponsored I’m so glad he got to check off another fun item on his bucket list while he was still feeling up to it. I miss getting to spoil this sweet boy, but I’m so happy we made so many wonderful memories during our 27 days together. Buster was such a special boy. Take me out to the ballllllgameeeee ❤️⚾️ Buster had a such a great time at the @Nashville Sounds game last Tuesday! He absolutely loved all the attention he got from everyone and he really enjoyed getting to meet some of the other berners in the Nashville Berners group. The hotdog and ice cream were a nice bonus too😋 Buster also went back to the vet this week to recheck his bloodwork and do another ultrasound to make sure there was no fluid in his abdomen. Free fluid in his abdomen would indicate that he’s bleeding internally, which is very common with the type of cancer he likely has (hemangiosarcoma). We got great news all around! His bloodwork has improved significantly since his transfusion. His numbers are still not in the “normal” range, but given his diagnosis and how low the numbers were previously, we are very pleased with how much they’ve improved. On the ultrasound, there was no sign of fluid in his abdomen and also no sign of any pericardial effusion. His splenic tumor also appeared to have shrunk 1-2 cm! One of the chinese herbal supplements we have him on has some great research with slowing the progression of hemangiosarcoma, and sometimes even shrinking the tumors. Clearly, it seems to be working for Buster right now too! My vet was *very cautiously* optimistic that if Buster continues like this, we could potentially get a couple good months with him 🥹🙏🏼❤️ Buster has also gained 3lbs (~1.4kgs) since I adopted him. We have actually been able to reduce the appetite stimulant he’s currently on to every other day and still meet his caloric goal on the days he doesn’t take the medication. He’s still being VERY picky about what he wants to eat, but he’s still eating, so that’s all that matters. Right now, his favorites are meaty/jerky treats from @Finley's and @dogswellofficial . He’s also still liking steak, deli meat, mozzarella cheese, and goldfish crackers. Be sure to follow The Berner Bunch to stay updated on Buster and watch him check off more items on his bucket list❤️ #bustersbucketlist #rescuedog

A perfect beach day for Buster🥹☀️ For those that don’t know his story, Buster is an 11.5 year old hospice bernese mountain dog that I adopted from @Tusc. Co. Humane Society a little over a week ago. Unfortunately, Buster has never been cared for like he deserved. I took him in to my incredible vet, @Snodgrass Vet and we did bloodwork, xrays, and an ultrasound to see where we were at health wise. We found that Buster has tumors on his heart and spleen, most likely hemangiosarcoma, and he was severely anemic as a result. This type of cancer is highly malignant and aggressive. Buster received a blood transfusion and was hooked up to fluids most of the day before coming home. At that point, we weren’t sure he’d make it through the holiday weekend, but he did, and he’s not giving up yet ❤️‍🩹 Overall, he’s doing really well! He is a VERY happy boy and doesn’t seem to be uncomfortable or in any pain at all. Getting him to eat is no easy task. He’s very picky— if he likes something one morning, he’ll probably turn his nose to it by that afternoon. He’s refusing most dog foods, but if he decides he’ll eat some dog food, his favorite has been different flavors of @Open Farm Pet freeze dried morsels. He’s still eating an assortment of human foods— steak, salmon, lean beef, pork chops, chicken, deli meat, and of course, goldfish crackers. Whatever he chooses to eat, he likes it cut into tiny pieces, and he wants it to be hand fed to him. He won’t eat it if it’s put on a plate or in a bowl… he just tries to bury the plate or bowl if so. Ultimately, Buster doesn’t have much time left— we just don’t know if that is days or weeks, or by miracle, a month or two, but rather than counting down the days, we are trying to make every day count. Buster deserves to know what the good life is all about, so we are going to make the most of whatever time we are blessed with. He is truly the best boy and I’m so glad we get to spoil him for the rest of his life, however long it may be. Buster was a big fan of his pup cup! You better believe we’ll be having pup cups for dessert every night now 😋 What should Buster check off his bucket list next!? For those that don’t know his story, Buster is an 11.5 year old hospice bernese mountain dog that I adopted from a rural Ohio shelter exactly two weeks ago. Unfortunately, Buster has never been cared for like he deserved— he was not in the best of shape when I got him. I made an appointment for him to see my vet, just to get an idea of where we were at health wise since he is so old. I had a gut feeling he likely had an underlying issue based on his age and how underweight he was. We did bloodwork, xrays, and an ultrasound and unfortunately found that Buster has tumors on his heart and spleen, most likely hemangiosarcoma. He was severely anemic as a result. We did a blood transfusion and hooked him up to fluids that day. We have also started him on several medications and Chinese supplements that have great supporting research with his specific type of cancer. While they won’t reverse his cancer, we are hoping we can slow the progression of the tumors, so we can get as much quality time as possible with him. He is doing great overall. He’s a very picky eater… figuring out what he wants to eat feels like a full time job, but he’s still eating, so that’s all that matters. He hasn’t given us any indication that he’s uncomfortable or in any pain at all. Ultimately, Buster doesn’t have much time left— we just don’t know if that is going to be days or weeks, or by miracle, a month or two, but rather than anxiously counting down the days, we are trying to make every day count. Buster deserves to know what the good life is all about, so we are going to make the most of whatever time we are blessed with. Since making this video, we have found out that Buster has tumors on his heart and spleen, likely hemangiosarcomas. He doesn’t have much time left 💔 We will not be doing any extreme life saving measures to selfishly prolong his life. We are only doing things to keep him as comfortable as possible for whatever time he has left. We are truly devastated, but are ready to make whatever decision is necessary to make sure Buster does not suffer. He is still happy and wagging his tail— he’s still showing us that he hasn’t given up yet. Please keep Buster in your thoughts and prayers. My vet believes if we can get him comfortable enough to start eating more, he could maybe have 2 months. However, if he continues to not want to eat much, we maybe have 1-2 weeks, likely less. Fingers crossed he starts eating more, so we can spoil him with all of the cheese burgers, steaks, chicken nuggets, ice cream, pup cups, or whatever else he could ever possibly want❤️

Thank you for attending this very important meeting. This was too important to share in an email. Our foster puppies are HUGE. One of them is already adopted and in his new home, and the other will be heading to her new home soon🤍 I was not expecting to have them for so long, but unfortunately two of the puppies in the litter (including the one on the right in this video) had to have emergency hospitalizations and were in critical condition. Thankfully, both have since recovered. Multiple days/nights at the emergency vet for 2 puppies was a LARGE bill for the rescue organization to take on. BARC also has several recent owner surrenders that are needing orthopedic surgeries… a total hip replacement, bilateral TPLOs, and bilateral elbow surgeries, etc… all of which come with an expensive bill and lengthy recovery. If you’d like to help cover the overwhelming mountain of vet bills that BARC has recently taken on, I will put the donation link on our profile. Anything truly helps❤️‍🩹 BARC is a 501c3 non profit bernese mountain dog rescue organization run entirely by volunteers. 100% of all donations go back to saving these dogs and providing them with the care they need before they can be put up for adoption.
