As Member Month comes to a close, we wanted to share one more MEC member story from the backcountry 🌧️ @thevancuniantraveler learned the hard way that when the tent site choice doesn’t pan out, you really need to be able to rely on your gear 😅 Tent pad flooded, boots floating, stove brought inside to stay dry… and somehow, not a drop made it into the MEC Spark. “One of my favourite shopping experiences at MEC was searching for a tent that could actually handle BC’s unpredictable climate and heavy rainfall. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to walk us through different options, materials, and features to help us find the right fit for our needs. We ended up with a tent we’re genuinely so happy with, and the quality has definitely been tested during extreme BC rainfall.” Shoutout to our members for continuing to put good gear to the test in the great outdoors.

Ultralight gear 🤝 liveability Launching in a few weeks, our new Alpha UL 1-Person Tent weighs just 660g (including pegs and pole), about the weight of a hoodie. But we still chose an ever-so-slightly heavier fabric, because a more enjoyable experience outside far outweighs saving a few grams. Across the 2 Kilo Project, we worked closely with our mills to use quieter, more comfortable fabrics, balancing weight and space to create a system that’s actually enjoyable to use. Want to learn more? Join us in-store for an educational session on how to pack for an ultralight hiking trip, perfect for experienced backpackers who want to cut grams or trail-goers who want to learn more about ultralight packing basics. You’ll also be the first to explore the new MEC 2Kilo Project collection. Link in bio.

#MECstaffer Kyler wears his @fjallraven_na Keb Trousers at least 2-3 times a week, so needless to say, he knows a thing or two about how to maintain them. G-1000 fabric can be waxed for more wind and water resistance, or washed clean for breathability on warmer days. Here’s how to use Greenland Wax to dial in your layers: 1️⃣ Apply: Glide a thin layer of wax across the fabric. 2️⃣ Heat: Melt it in with low, steady heat (iron or hairdryer). 3️⃣ Repeat: Add extra protection to high-exposure spots like shoulders, knees, and cuffs. And that's it! Link in bio to shop Fjallraven gear, and grab a block of wax for your regular gear maintenance.

No TP? No problem. These two backcountry upgrades might just earn a permanent spot in your pack. First up: the Kula Cloth. Designed for anyone who squats to pee, this antimicrobial pee cloth stays hygienic between washes and folds up compactly to keep it separate from the rest of your gear. Next, meet the HumanGear BidetToob. Holding up to 6 ounces of water, this portable bidet helps you stay clean in the backcountry and easily clips onto a carabiner for quick access on the go. So, what do you think? Link in bio to shop all bath and sanitation products.

#MECStaffer Noa breaks down the backpack fitting process so you don't have to. Looking at two sibling packs from @gregory—the Paragon 50 and Maven 48—here are three simple steps to finding the right fit. 1. Measure your torso 📏 Using a measuring tool, find the distance between your iliac crest (the top of your hip bone) and your C7 vertebra (the bump at the base of your neck). This measurement will help determine the right pack size for your body. 2. Pick your pack 🎒 Both the Gregory Paragon 50 and Gregory Maven 48 are designed for everything from overnight trips to multi-day backpacking adventures. While the features remain the same on both packs, the Maven is made specifically for women, including more inwards facing hip belts and more curvature in the shoulder straps. Highlight features: • Full length side-loading access zipper for easy unloading and gear organization • Flatter back panel for better stability • Auxiliary pocket on the shoulder strap for easy access to small essentials 3. Try it on ✅ Once you've found the right size, adjust the hip belt, shoulder straps, load lifters and sternum strap so the pack sits comfortably and the weight is distributed properly. A well-fitted pack can make a huge difference on the trail. Click the link in bio to find your Gregory pack today.
