I had a mentor tell me early on that I needed to get okay with the idea that I could be alone (unmarried). And that pissed me off. Because I wanted to get married one day and have partnership. I learned as time passed the seed planted wasn’t to scare me but it was to decenter that concept that you need a partner to be successful. That somehow getting married meant a woman was more worthy. I learned being single wasn’t a handicap, or a chip. It was permission. For me to do whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. A freedom some find terrifying, a freedom some aren’t interested in, and a freedom others wish they had. I had it. And that freedom allowed me to take risks when the only person that would fall would be me. And risk after risk got me here. With work that lights me up. With deep fulfilling friendships. With a relationship that’s secure and supportive. I’m not here to glamorize any route chosen. Every decision has consequences and rewards. But in a moment where it feels like there are many powerful people, and powerful women, saying the best thing a woman can be is be a wife and mother — I just want to show you young women something different. The best thing you can do with your life, is live it exactly how you want to. However you want to 🫶

Can we all agree it’s not the women now? Also, this is just embarrassing. Also, also, release the Epstein files.

It honestly happened so fast I didn’t even have time to wrap my arms around it. But I really did love that apt. I loved its charm, I loved how the sunshine came in first thing in the morning, I loved the exposed brick and big wooden beams. I loved what it allowed me to build. It feels like where Momentum really became something. I stretched my budget to get a one bedroom (the move upstairs) so that I could build an office space and have some separation. I bought a gorgeous oak wooden desk for all the big work to happen. I got cork boards to hang up all the letters and post cards I got for talent and brands. My kitchen became my mail room filled with boxes for campaigns and projects. And then the mirror. Silly little stories to show my outfits but it really was the transformation I was in. For a wardrobe filled with only workout clothes to trying to find my style, something that felt more like Erin the business owner and less Erin the runner/trainer/talent. Now time to ground in my cute little treehouse, gimme a beat to paint the second bedroom and then you’re all invited to visit 🤗

Last night I sat around a fire in the neighborhood I grew up in (in which my parents still live) during their annual black party, this year also being the one year anniversary of Hurricane Helene. They shared moments they were grateful for: neighbors having pools which became the neighborhood source for potable water, the trash pick up service they organized while the city was unable, the neighbors that donated oxygen tanks to other neighbors who just needed it more, the neighbors that hosted the nightly potluck dinners on their lawn they held for weeks while food and supplies were still scarce, the neighbors who organize supply drives to bring in food water medicine and other basic needs, the neighbors who stepped up to be block captains organizing check-ins for each house, the neighbors that watched each others dogs and cats, the neighbors who didn't know each other that came together to love and take care of each other. My parents and neighborhood were many of the luckiest ones. Other friends lost entire families, 9 family members having died in a landslide. Hundreds lost their homes. Thousands left with homes in need of significant damage. I know the world is hurting right now. But last night was the most beautiful reminder that our work starts exactly where we are. Our work to create the world we live in, starts with ourselves and turning to our neighbors. When you don't know what to do, ask the person beside you what do you need? And for all my city friends, that might mean having to introduce yourself to the neighbor you've lived next to for three years and still don't know their name. It might feel small, but it's many small moments that create the momentum of a movement, and the heartbeat of a community. We might survive alone, but we only thrive together. The community we want to live in is ours to create. And maybe a visit to Asheville for some community inspiration, shrimp and grits, and a few beers, might be just what you need 🫶 #asheville #hurricanehelene
