What would happen if you drilled a hole straight through the ice in Antarctica and jumped in? You jump in and the snow around you quickly changes to dense blue ice. As you go deeper, you realize the air bubbles trapped all around you are from the time of the Renaissance on the surface, then Ancient Rome, then the last Ice Age! But the pressure is rising and you’re getting closer to Earth’s hot core, the ice suddenly turns into… To find out what it is, follow along! #Antarctica #ice #mystery #Science

Why are these 5,000 basketball-sized spheres deep under the ice in Antarctica? It’s an observatory all the way down at the bottom of the world. It spans over a cubic kilometer in size and involves drilling 2500m below the surface. It was a massive undertaking requiring tons of resources... so how did they do it? #IceCube #Antarctica #Science #Technology

How they found the giant squid… This is the first ever footage of a giant squid in its natural habitat. It took decades to get this footage. And some creative engineering. The further down into the ocean you go the darker it gets, so when scientists make their way down there with ROV’s or subs the lights and motors typically cause animals adapted for cold, dark isolation to flee.  In 2012, one scientist got creative and finally caught some incredible footage of a deep sea creature we’d never seen before in its natural habitat. What if you just keep going? Imagine you fly off at the speed of light. After 8.3 minutes, you’d reach our Sun. After 4 hours and 6 minutes, you’d pass the furthest planet in our solar system. How long do you think it takes you at the speed of light to get to the farthest object humans have ever sent? Follow if you think less than 24 hours. But at 4 years in, just as you’re passing our nearest star… something weird happens… If you like optimistic science and tech stories, follow for more of our show Huge If True! #animation #farthest #Science #technology #historyfacts

What's really inside the Earth? The deepest hole anyone has ever dug is only 0.2% of the way to the Earth’s center. But then….how do we know that our Earth has a solid core?!? For a long time we thought the entire inside was molten, until a scientist looked at how ripples from earthquakes – seismic waves – bounced around inside the earth. Now we know we have a solid inner core that rotates at a different rate than on the surface, and right now it's slowing down! To find out why, follow along! #Science #earth #core #inside #earthquake

Why do antarctic ocean animals become giants? Something weird is happening deep in the freezing water at our poles. Animals consistently grow to ENORMOUS sizes. Spiders the size of dinner plates and squid larger than a school bus. “Detecting multiple leviathan class organisms in this area…” WHY? Subscribe to learn more! This new map shows dark energy might be getting weaker. That’s odd. Every dot you see here is either a galaxy or a special kind of black hole, and there are 47 million in this new 3D map of our universe. It’s uprooting what we thought we knew about dark energy and implying our universe might be headed toward a very different ending than we thought… For more on that, follow along! #Science #energy #universe #galaxy #blackhole

This plane cured my fear of flying. A Zero G flight is incredibly strenuous – not just for the occupants (though definitely them too, it’s called the Vomit Comet for a reason!) but also for the plane! A Zero G flight requires 3 pilots to complete 31 maneuvers that involve repeatedly experiencing VERY steep inclines, HEAVY G forces, and casually diving toward the Earth. I assumed these planes needed to be specially designed and reinforced to pull this off. It turns out… I was wrong. Follow along to find out more! #ZeroG #airplane #Flying #Science #Technology

NASA is sending humans farther from Earth than ever before. This is the second of three planned NASA missions to go back to the moon, in hopes of eventually establishing a moon colony. This mission, Artemis II, is about testing the spacecraft, Orion, during a 10 day trip around earth and the moon while checking the ship’s life support, navigation, communication, and radiation shelter. If all goes well, the third and final mission will have humans landing back on the moon for the first time in 50 years! To see more about that, follow along! #NASA #space #Artemis #moon #Science

If you rip open the new World Cup ball you’ll find this sensor embedded into the side It’s collecting data 500 times a second! During games, the sensor tells you where the ball is on the field and if it’s been touched by a player! LOut of all the different kinds of solar systems, ours appears to be the rarest!
