I didn’t realize this until I got my hearing checked… wearing AirPods on site with noise cancellation doesn’t protect your ears.
The average jobsite hits 85 to 100+ decibels all day. Anything over 70 dB starts chipping away at your hearing. And once your hearing goes? It doesn’t grow back.

ISOtunes are one of the only OSHA-compliant earbuds designed for tradespeople, not office workers.
They cap volume at 85 dB, have a real NRR rating, block constant machine noise, and still let you hear voices and alarms — which is the part most PPE gets wrong.

They help prevent permanent hearing loss, tinnitus, auditory fatigue, and the “why am I so exhausted after work?” feeling that comes from your ears fighting noise all day.

Your ears are a tool you can’t replace. Protect them now, or you’ll pay for it later.

I hate to say it, being a carpenter at all, but the world needs more sparkies. With the AI boom, we are about to be in a really big pickle. Here’s a video explaining why, and how YOU can get into this starving trade.

Episode 2: Why we built it that way: interior walls

Open concept homes lack privacy, temperature control, and noise control. Walls are built for a purpose. How have we forgotten this?

What’s your stance on interior walls? Keep it open? Or close it off. Let me know in the comments!

A drill spins.
An impact driver spins AND hits.

That “hitting” force is what drives long screws without stripping them.

Use a drill for drilling holes and precision.
Use an impact driver for driving screws fast and hard.

They’re not the same tool, and using the wrong one is why your screws keep getting destroyed.

I hit a point where I didn’t recognize myself anymore. I was exhausted, wearing clothes that didn’t fit, and felt completely disconnected from who I was. Getting my nails done isn’t about being “girly.” It’s about holding onto myself in a job that can easily strip that away.

Bottom line- I felt ugly, and I’m not ugly. I’m pretty! (Built pretty) So I changed it.

That little gap between your wall and floor? It’s not sloppy work — it’s called an expansion gap, and it keeps your floors from buckling, warping, or cracking as they expand and contract with the seasons.

Hardwood? Yes.
Engineered wood? Yes.
Vinyl plank? Still yes.

Hide it with quarter round or shoe molding attached to the baseboard, not the floor. Let your floors breathe. 🪚🏡

There is something so special about seeing someone you love be undeniable at what they do.

I always knew my best friend was good at her job, but getting to walk through her work in real life has made me appreciate the level of skill, thought, and care behind every single decision.

She really is that girl… she’s also gonna hate that I posted this

This is something we can all do today to make the skilled trades more welcoming to women.

Yes, we need better workwear. We need PPE that fits more body types. Those changes matter, but they take time.

Changing our language doesn’t.

Instead of automatically calling construction a “male-dominated industry,” what if we started describing it as “male-populated” when we’re talking about demographics, not culture? Small shifts in language can change how people see an industry, and who feels like they belong in it.

What other practical changes—big or small—could help lower the barrier to entry for women in construction and the skilled trades?

Most people think stripped Phillips screws are just part of life.

They’re not.

The Phillips head was literally designed to cam out under torque to protect early manufacturing equipment during mass production.

Meanwhile, the Robertson square drive already existed:
better grip, better torque transfer, easier one-handed driving, and dramatically less slipping.

Henry Ford wanted Robertson screws in the Model T so badly he tried to buy the patent.

But Robertson refused to license it widely.

Phillips did the opposite.

And by the time World War II manufacturing exploded, the Phillips head had already taken over the world.

So every time your screwdriver slips and destroys a screw head…

you’re experiencing a manufacturing decision made almost 100 years ago
