Haven’t gotten a braided hairstyle with synthetic hair since last September and I’m keeping the break going! Opted for some cornrows without additional hair for this trip and I LOVE. Idk why I didn’t do this sooner 😭

I have to give a few people their flowers πŸ’. Long caption loading, sorry not sorry.

As a content creator who mainly wears her natural hair or Afrocentric hairstyles, when brands/brand events offer hair services I instinctively assume there’s a strong chance I won’t participate in that service. I internally ask myself questions like β€œWill they have someone who is familiar with curly/coily hair?” β€œWill they offer a hairstyle suitable for me?” β€œWill they gentle?” and think let me not get my hopes up and just assume the answer is no.

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of attending @deltafaucet’s event to celebrate the launch of VersaCurl (extremely excited to try this btw) and when I walked in I noticed braids as an option for the dry styling service. Now as y’all know I’m a medium braider πŸ˜…. I say this to say, I came in with my hair styled however if I could get a professional to just redo my braids that would be absolutely wonderful. Ask and you shall receive lol. I asked if this was possible and they paired me with Shawnette (@rootedstrands).

Not only did Shawnette revamp my whole hairstyle and give me some fresh and neat braids that had folks complimenting and staring left and right lol, but she was also so gentle with my hair. I find that some stylists care about the temporary hairstyle they are doing, but not the condition your hair is going to be in after that style is taken down. However, Shawnette was so patient and delicate with my hair and I appreciated that so so much!!

So I had to take a post to publicly, personally thank my stylist Shawnette, thank you @teneyalove for making sure the girls feel seen, and thank you to @deltafaucet for having me at the event. The experience was so appreciated and I had such a lovely time πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈ

So braiding is getting better but I’ve discovered a new enemy of progress: parting πŸ˜€.

In the end, my sister ending up doing the parts for me because I had nothing left to give 🫩.

Still taking a break from synthetic hair because almost every time I try it my scalp says NAUR 😭.

This time we added hair, but made it human hair. My first time doing this hairstyle and very possibly not my last. I have to see what the takedown is giving before I give my final verdict πŸ˜…. As of right now, I’m OBSESSED!

My braider (@bymariamkamara) provided the hair btw!!

I love and live for a good creative and elegant natural hairstyle and I fear I outdid myself with this one 🀏🏾. First of all, she’s a braider fr 🀭. I got most of these done on my first attempt, I was very proud of myself lol and the finished hairstyle, TEA!

Natural hair isn’t for fancy events, says who?? Direct them here expeditiously, class is in session. πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸ«

the perfectionist virgo in me is very upset rn even though I know it doesn’t look bad. It’s just not exactly what I want and I’m already on my 82711617189 straw today. 😭

I knew doing bantu knots at 12AM to take down the next morning/afternoon was a bad idea though so I can only blame myself 🫠

I’m using the @mielleorganics rosemary and mint strengthening oil btw

This footage has been sitting in my camera roll for far too long πŸ˜…. Finallyyyy sharing a video on this hairstyle I did a little while ago and lowkey inspiring myself to revisit this style lol.

Very lazy natural friendly for my fellow curly girls who want a bit of a mini twists effect without doing all the work of mini twisting your entire head. Also fine hair friendly because it gives a fuller finished look cause I definitely know the feeling of doing mini twists and it not coming out as voluminous as you hoped πŸ₯².

I know I didn’t show me doing the two strand twists in the back so to tell you what I used I went in with @crownaffair leave in conditioner and @themanechoice ultimate definition mousse!!

The break from synthetic hair continues! I asked the girlies what hairstyle I should do next and fulani braids on my natural hair won. We’re going to see how this holds up against Spicemas πŸ™ƒπŸ‡¬πŸ‡©

braids: @bymariamkamara
For the back I did a twistout using @camillerosenaturals honey spiked mousse and @cecred hair and scalp balm

It’s giving protection in the front, party in the back 🀭

This hairstyle was unintentional so I didn’t film this time but I will next time!! I really thought I was just gonna do a full twistout but then it occurred to me to leave the twists in the front in and I did something with this! For one, I be wanting mini twists but sometimes lack the energy for the parting and teeny twisting to get the look. For two, in the times I have done mini twists I fear they be looking a little boneless πŸ˜–πŸ˜.

So this twistout/twistin alternative is so perfect because I get a lot of the benefits I love about mini twists such as protecting the front of my head (which is really where I feel I need it most lol) but without taking as much time and I have fullness!!
